Beep beep...
The call was answered after thirty seconds, and a female voice came from the other end; it was Luo Yang.
"Hello, is this Aunt Yang? Happy New Year. I'm looking for Mengmeng!"
On the other end of the phone, Luo Yang called out to Tang Meng.
"It's Xiaomin! Happy New Year! Mengmeng just went to the restroom. Are you and your parents doing alright over there? When are you planning to come back?"
"Aunt Yang, we are all doing well. We will go back on the sixth day of the Lunar New Year and visit your home to wish you a Happy New Year as soon as we get back."
"Okay! We'll wait for you. Mengmeng is here. You two girls can chat!"
"Hello, is this Xiaomin? Happy New Year! Have you finished your winter break homework?"
"Mengmeng, Happy New Year! Can we please not talk about homework during the New Year? It's such a downer, even though I've finished mine."
"You're the only one who finished writing it, what a spoilsport!"
"Tang Meng, you're not allowed to use foul language." Luo Yang's voice came from the other end of the microphone.
Xia Minmin mimicked Luo Yang's tone with schadenfreude, "Tang Meng, don't you dare use foul language!"
"Xia Minmin!! You naughty child, you just wait!"
"Mmm, Mengmeng, I'm waiting! Bye-bye!" Xia Minmin's tone was incredibly irritating.
Xia Minmin redialed.
Beep beep beep…
"Who is this?" came the voice of a young man from the other end of the line.
"Hello, I'm looking for Mr. Wang Aimin."
"Wrong number!" the other party said before hanging up.
Xia Minmin was completely baffled; she checked the number on the phone and realized she hadn't dialed the wrong number!
Xia Minmin redialed.
beep…
"Hello, who are you looking for?" This time it was a clear female voice.
"Hello, is this Mr. Wang Aimin's home?"
"Yes! You must be Xia Minmin's sister? I'm his eldest daughter-in-law. I'll hand him the phone. Happy New Year!"
Xia Minmin thought to herself that the person who answered the phone earlier was probably her second son.
