The day Xia Minmin's interview results came out was exactly two months into her relationship with Gu Fei.
Gu Fei took a special leave to accompany Xia Minmin to witness this moment.
The two people were sitting in a coffee shop with a laptop in front of them.
Gu Fei touched his girlfriend's slightly cool right hand and couldn't help but rub it to warm it up. "Honey, you'll definitely do well in the interview. I believe in you, and you should believe in yourself too. Even if you don't pass, it's okay, I'll take care of you!"
Xia Minmin withdrew her hands, which she had been rubbing together, and said, "I don't believe any of the nonsense you're spouting. If men are reliable, pigs can fly."
Gu Fei clutched his chest. "Baby, you've broken my heart."
Xia Minmin was amused by Gu Fei's silliness, and her mood was not as tense as before.
Seeing that the time was approaching, Gu Fei seized the opportunity and said, "Baby, order me a Black Forest cake."
Xia Minmin planned to call a passing waiter, but all the waiters in the coffee shop were busy at the moment, and no one passed by for five minutes. Gu Fei looked like he really wanted to eat, so he had no choice but to get up and go to the counter to order.
Seeing his girlfriend distracted, Gu Fei immediately pressed the confirmation button the instant the timer jumped. Ten seconds later, the page finally loaded.
Gu Fei, who ranked first in both the written test and the interview, smiled. He wasn't nervous at first, but his girlfriend's nervousness made him nervous too.
Xia Minmin returned to her seat and saw her boyfriend's beaming face. Excitedly, she asked, "Are my results out? Did I get in?"
"I passed the exam." Gu Fei then gave his girlfriend a quick kiss.
Xia Minmin blushed and shyly pushed Gu Fei's face away, looking around, "Be mindful of your image in public places, or it will look bad if someone takes a picture and posts it online."
Gu Fei held his girlfriend's hand. "Let's get married after I officially start working here?"
Xia Minmin's eyes widened when she heard what Gu Fei said. "This is too fast! We've only been dating for two months, we don't know each other well enough yet."
Gu Fei leaned his head on Xia Minmin's shoulder. "Is it fast? Not at all. We've known each other for over ten years. This is considered slow. If it weren't for your enlistment, I would have confirmed our relationship as soon as you turned eighteen. Our progress is already very slow."
Xia Minmin cautiously observed Gu Fei's expression and said, "But I haven't mentioned you to my parents yet. Isn't it inappropriate to suddenly bring up marriage?"
Gu Fei's face hardened upon hearing this. "Xia Xiaomin, I knew you were heartless. I told my family the very first day we started dating. Unlike you..."
Gu Fei stared at his girlfriend with a mournful expression. Seeing her restless state, he knew the time was right. "Sigh, nobody cares for me, nobody loves me. I'd rather die outside with the Party flag draped over my head."
Xia Minmin couldn't stand Gu Fei's rambling nonsense. Even though it was all false, it was a matter of life and death, so she couldn't just say it carelessly. "Quick, spit it out! Who curses themselves to die?"
Gu Fei smiled as he looked at his girlfriend's anxious expression, but he remained silent and simply gazed at her.
Xia Minmin immediately understood what he meant. "I'll talk to Mom and Dad about you tonight, but we'll discuss the marriage later. You're dreaming, thinking about marriage before even proposing."
Gu Fei grinned broadly, "So Xiaomin agreed to marry me?"
"When did I agree?" Xia Minmin glanced at Gu Fei with a charmingly coquettish look.
"It's okay, I understand. I'll definitely propose as soon as possible." Gu Fei's upturned lips didn't disappear even after he dropped his girlfriend off at Dudu Garden.
Even Gu Fei himself didn't expect things to go so smoothly. He felt he had to arrange the proposal ceremony as soon as possible, in case his girlfriend changed her mind.
In the Ugly Country, Xi Ang was about to go to work when he received a rambling phone call from Gu Fei. He understood the gist of the call: Gu Fei wanted Xia Minmin to get married and asked him to help plan a proposal.
"You two are moving so fast! I remember you only dated for a month, how come you're already married? And pregnant?"
"Get lost, we've been dating for two months and sixty days, it's time to get married. I have to propose as soon as possible, otherwise once everyone finds out about Xiaomin, I'll have a lot more competitors. If you're a true brother, help me out."
"Send me your proposal plan, and I'll take a look."
"You have no experience either, at best you're just a cobbler, but three cobblers can equal one Zhuge Liang."
Xi Ang was so angry he wanted to hang up on Gu Fei. Was this how you begged for something? It was so infuriating.
Gu Fei was excitedly talking about various marriage proposal plans, but soon he rejected them himself. He couldn't make up his mind even when Xi Ang went to work, so he had to hang up the phone.
When Xia Minmin arrived home, she saw her parents, who rarely came home so early. She changed her shoes, hesitated, and walked to the sofa to sit down. "Mom and Dad, why are you home so early today?"
"Xiaomin, Dad and I thought you were home. We didn't expect you to go out. Did you check your grades?" Li Chunmei asked.
"I checked, the first-place candidate is accepted without any problem," Xia Minmin replied absentmindedly.
Xia Jianguo noticed something was wrong with his daughter. "Xiaomin, what's wrong? You seem to have something on your mind."
Xia Minmin stopped worrying and said in a low voice, very quickly, "Mom and Dad, I'm in a relationship."
The news of Xia Minmin's relationship instantly overshadowed the news of her taking the civil service exam.
Li Chunmei and Xia Jianguo exchanged a glance, both incredulous. A relationship? Hadn't their daughter been preparing for exams for the past six months? When did she start dating? Could it be an online romance?
The couple were exchanging glances, signaling each other to speak. In the end, Xia Jianguo gave in. He hesitated for a long time, only managing to say one word before stopping.
Li Chunmei was speechless in the face of her husband. "Xiaomin, do you know your boyfriend's parents? How old are they? Where do they work? What's their salary? How tall are they? Where do they live? Who else lives in their family? What's their family's financial situation like?"
