Two days passed in the blink of an eye.
As the school bell rang, a throng of elementary school students poured out, while parents waited patiently outside the school gate.
In Class 1, Grade 6, Xia Minmin and Tang Meng are packing their schoolbags.
"Xiaomin, are you taking the train back to your hometown tonight?"
"Yes, the train is at eight o'clock tonight."
"Ah! So I'll be going to my Sanda class by myself today! Xiaomin, I'll miss you, you have to come back soon."
Xia Minmin hugged Tang Meng, "Don't worry, I'll definitely come back on the last day of the holiday and bring you some delicious food!"
"Okay, let's hurry back! You still need to go home and pack your luggage!"
Xia Minmin did not go to the supermarket but went straight home to her apartment complex. Li Chunmei had told her to go home and pack her suitcase before she left in the morning.
Their suitcases were packed by noon.
As soon as Xia Minmin entered the house, she saw two large suitcases in the living room, as well as a large shopping bag filled with snacks and local specialties that Xia Jianguo had specifically bought, to be eaten on the train.
The pineapple buns, wife cakes, and egg tarts, which are fragile, haven't been packed into bags yet; I guess I'll pack them when I leave.
Xia Minmin looked at the tempting egg tarts and couldn't resist opening the box and eating two. Although they weren't as delicious as when they were fresh out of the oven, the crust was still crispy and the filling was full of egg liquid and had a rich milky flavor. Most importantly, the sweetness was just right. You could eat seven or eight in one go without getting tired of them. Even Xia Jianguo, who doesn't like sweets, could show off three or four of them.
After finishing the last bite of the egg tart, Xia Minmin went into her room to pack her clothes, which were very simple.
A three-in-one windbreaker, from a brand that recently opened a store in Shenzhen. After seeing it, Li Chunmei bought one for everyone in her family, suitable for their trips back to their hometown. Three long-sleeved shirts, three pairs of long pants, and two pairs of sneakers. She also bought a small crossbody bag for her cousin on her aunt's side, which she paid for herself.
The books that were originally in my backpack were taken out and placed on my desk. I chose a history book I was currently reading, an original English classic, and an English dictionary. These three books took up the entire backpack, and I also had to bring my Walkman.
After tidying up Xia Minmin's schoolbag, it was found to be overweight, more than 50% heavier than usual. Xia Minmin had to drag and pull it with difficulty to the living room.
I had only rested for less than ten minutes when I heard the door open. I guessed it was Li Chunmei and Xia Jianguo coming over.
"Xiaomin, are you done tidying up?"
Sure enough, they were back. Xia Jianguo and Li Chunmei changed their shoes and walked into the living room, where they immediately saw Xia Minmin's schoolbag lying on the floor.
"Why did you leave your schoolbag on the ground, child?"
After Li Chunmei finished speaking, she tried to pick up her schoolbag.
They tried to lift it and found that they couldn't lift it at all. Xia Jianguo also tried and found that it was indeed very heavy.
Xia Jianguo tried to communicate with Xia Minmin, "Xiaomin, we're only going back to our hometown for ten days, there's no need to bring so many books back. We'll be very busy when we get home, so we probably won't have much time to read. Can we choose a few to take back with us?"
Xia Minmin thought about it and agreed. The backpack was too heavy for her to carry back herself.
When Xia Minmin opened her schoolbag, Xia Jianguo and Li Chunmei discovered that it contained two thick, heavy books. The two looked at each other in dismay, thinking that if they really took these back, they would be exhausted on the way.
After successfully lightening Xia Minmin's schoolbag, Li Chunmei and Xia Jianguo checked the water, electricity, and gas, and then prepared to set off with their luggage.
Seeing the two about to leave with their luggage, she asked, "Aren't you going to wait for your aunt?"
Li Chunmei said, "I made an appointment with your aunt to meet at a Hunan restaurant near the train station. It's still early, so we'll have dinner first and then go to the train station."
Xia Minmin nodded, indicating that she understood.
The family of three, pushing three suitcases of different sizes, carrying a large shopping bag, and with Xia Minmin also carrying a schoolbag, walked through the neighborhood. Many neighbors greeted them when they saw them.
"Chunmei, where are you three planning to go for fun?"
"I have some business to attend to back in my hometown."
"Xiaomin, did you ask for leave?"
"Yes, I took a few days off."
"But your Xiaomin has good grades, so taking a few days off is no problem, unlike my child who can't even take a single day off."
"Sis, I can't chat with you anymore. We have to catch our train, so we're off!"
"Bon Voyage!"
"Thank you, sister!"
Just outside the residential area, I encountered an empty taxi. There weren't many vehicles heading towards the train station, and the journey took about the expected time.
The taxi stopped in front of the Hunan restaurant, where Xia Xiaomei and Xiao Wu were already waiting.
After getting out of the car, Li Chunmei waved to her younger sister, "Little sister, have you been waiting long?"
When Xia Xiaomei and Xiao Wu saw this, they quickly ran over and helped Xia Jianguo lift his suitcase.
Xia Xiaomei said gently, "Second sister-in-law, we arrived a long time ago!"
Xia Xiaomei and her group also brought two suitcases.
Li Chunmei pushed her suitcase as she walked, saying, "Why didn't you go inside and find a place to sit down?"
"We checked and it wasn't more than a few minutes before the agreed time, so we stood at the door and waited."
After entering the restaurant, the group randomly ordered five dishes.
Xia Jianguo distributed the bowls and chopsticks, "Xiao Wu, we've been gone for so many days, has the supermarket made any arrangements?"
"Second Brother, don't worry about the supermarket. I've arranged everything perfectly, and there won't be any problems. Plus, you've asked Brother Hua to go over every day or two, so there shouldn't be any issues!"
Xiao Wu poured a glass of water for everyone.
"Thank you, Uncle!"
Xia Minmin sipped her warm tea, and before long, all five dishes were served.
After a quick dinner, we planned to go to the train station. Xiao Wu had specially bought five or six bottles of drinking water outside, as prices were higher inside the station and even higher on the train.
Sitting on a bench at the train station, there was still an hour before it was time to board.
Xia Minmin took out a large box of egg tarts from the bag Xia Jianguo had placed on the chair and shared them with everyone.
Apart from Li Chunmei and Xia Xiaomei taking one, Xia Jianguo and Xiao Wu didn't take one.
Seeing this, Xia Jianguo asked, "Didn't you just eat? How come you're hungry again?"
After finishing her egg tart, Xia Minmin said, "Dad, I deliberately ate less during my meal so I could eat these snacks."
After saying that, Xia Minmin took out a pineapple bun and asked everyone for their opinions, but no one wanted to eat it, so Xia Minmin had to eat it by herself.
When Xia Jianguo saw Xia Minmin about to reach for another bag, he immediately stopped her, saying, "Our train is about to start boarding. You should pack your luggage and get ready to queue. You can eat after you get on the train!"
Xia Minmin awkwardly withdrew her outstretched hand and chuckled twice.
Just then, the announcement about ticket checking came over the loudspeaker, and everyone pushed their luggage to join the queue.
The queue wasn't too long, unlike the massive crowds during the Lunar New Year period, and the ticket checking process was much faster.
After boarding the train, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, as carrying so much luggage up and down the stairs was still a bit strenuous.
