Chapter 229 Broadband

Duran laughed loudly, "Hahaha... Xia Minmin, if you don't want to change beds, just say so. There's no need to make up lies. You say you're not even thirteen years old yet, who would believe that!"

The people who had been scrambling for the beds nodded in agreement. "That's right, our Xixi is more like a child than you are."

Wu Yue grasped Xia Minmin's hand with delight, "So you're the youngest student in our year that the seniors were talking about."

Wang Jing leaned closer, "Xiaoyue, do you know?"

Wu Yue and the other two returned from the home textile store together, and they were much more familiar with each other than before.

"I heard my senior classmates mention it when I signed up."

Wang Jing and Jiang Lina circled around Xia Minmin, occasionally shaking their heads or nodding, leaving Xia Minmin completely bewildered.

The roommate's parent, who had been fighting over the bed, put down the mattress in their hand and walked back with a displeased look. "Xixi, how about we sleep on the top bunk?"

Tong Xi said unhappily, "I don't want to! I want to sleep in her spot! How am I supposed to sleep in this bed? It's not just the top bunk, it's right by the door! I'm going to freeze to death! I'm not reading anymore, I want to go home!"

Zhong Xi walked out of the dormitory with a puffed-out face. Her parents came back to talk to Xia Minmin again.

"Excuse me, I'll pay you 500 yuan if you give me this bed." Her attitude was much better than before.

“Auntie, I have plenty of money. The bed was assigned by the school. If you have any questions about the bed, please contact the school.”

Seeing that Xia Minmin was unmoved, the man said, "Why are you so stubborn, little classmate! This is five hundred yuan, you probably don't even have that much for your monthly allowance, do you?"

Xia Minmin had no intention of paying attention to these people. She took out her English test paper from the locked desk drawer and set the alarm for the self-study exam.

Wu Yue and the others were completely impressed by her composure. They returned to their desks and took out the books they had brought. If even top students work so hard, they, the average students, have no choice but to catch up.

Zhong Xi and the others glared fiercely at the back of Xia Minmin's head. "Xia Minmin, you just wait! I'm going to find the school right now. Don't be afraid to tell me, we know people there!"

When Xia Minmin didn't respond, they felt like they had punched cotton.

"Xia Minmin, why did you do this? Giving up a bed is no big deal. They even gave you five hundred yuan, which is great. Now look what happened, they went to find someone else. They tried to steal a chicken but lost the rice instead. In the end, they not only lost the bed but also didn't get the five hundred yuan." Du Lan said from behind Xia Minmin.

Xia Minmin ignored her for a long time.

thump thump thump...

A young man in work clothes, carrying a tool bag, was standing at the door.

"Hello, does Xia Minmin live here?"

Xia Minmin looked up at the door and said, "Yes, it is."

"Hello, I'm the staff here to install broadband. Could you please give me the yellow receipt? I need to hand it in."

Xia Minmin took out the two receipts given by the business hall from her backpack and handed the yellow receipt to the staff.

After checking and finding no problems, he took out the cable and router from his tool bag and began working silently.

"Xia Minmin, you brought your computer? Why didn't you put it on your desk?" Jiang Lina asked.

"Yes, I bought a laptop, it doesn't take up much space."

Only the people in the dormitory realized that when Xia Minmin said she wasn't short of money, she really meant it. Laptops these days easily cost tens of thousands of yuan, so why would she care about Zhong Xi's family's 500 yuan laptop?

Wu Yue was very excited. "Can I borrow it to take a look? I also want to buy a computer. I'm thinking about a desktop or a laptop. I've been hesitating for a long time and haven't decided yet, but laptops are too expensive. They must cost tens of thousands, right?"

Duran frowned immediately when he heard about a laptop costing tens of thousands of dollars.

Just then, the broadband installer finished. "Hey, get your laptop out, I want to test the broadband connection."

Xia Minmin used her key to open the locker and took out a notebook. The white casing of the Fruit Brand notebook immediately attracted everyone's attention.

"This is so beautiful! It's even better than the other laptops I saw at the computer mall!" Wu Yue exclaimed.

"Excuse me, how much does this notebook cost?" Wang Jing asked.

Xia Minmin shook her head. "I don't know. This is a gift from my parents to celebrate my college entrance exam."

Wang Jing was quite unsettled; compared to other people's parents, her father was simply incomparable.

After the installation staff checked and found nothing wrong, they left dormitory 504.

"Xia Minmin, how much does it cost to install broadband?"

"Five hundred per semester."

“So expensive? You’re being too extravagant. Five hundred yuan is enough for many students’ living expenses for two months. As students, we can’t be so vain and buy such an expensive computer just for the sake of saving face. If you hadn’t mentioned it, how could your parents have spent so much money to buy you such an expensive computer? The computer you bought is equivalent to a year’s salary for a family in our area,” Du Lan said.

Xia Minmin was utterly fed up with Du Lan. Why was she always around? Wasn't this moral blackmail? She could spend her own money however she wanted; what business was it of Du Lan's? Was she out of her mind? Did she think that other classmates had to be frugal just because they didn't have money?

Wu Yue said, "Du Lan, you're just making trouble out of nothing. Xia Minmin is spending her own money. You're meddling too much."

“We haven’t offended you. You were so arrogant on the first day we met, and now you’re saying we’re wasting money when we buy a mattress.”

Jiang Lina felt annoyed just thinking about how they had just returned to the bed where they had been chatting and laughing, and how Du Lan had stood on her moral high ground and talked about them. She also felt annoyed at the thought of having to live with her for another four years.

"Don't focus on your own studies, and don't spend all your time finding fault with your other roommates. This is Peking University, where top students can be found easily. If you don't work hard, you'll be eliminated soon, and you might not even graduate. This is my advice to you as your roommate." Wang Jing kept talking, as expected of someone who had been through a lot.

Xia Minmin then realized that Du Lan had talked to Wu Yue and the others again before she returned.

Xia Minmin stared at her coldly, "How I spend my money is none of your business. You should mind your own business. Maybe, just like Wang Jing said, you might not get your diploma."

"How could you people do this? I kindly reminded you, and you actually cursed me so I wouldn't graduate." Duran's face flushed red as he glared angrily at the group.

Since they were on different paths, Xia Minmin ignored Du Lan's answer and compared it with the test paper she had just finished.

"Xia Minmin, are you planning to take the CET-6 exam in your freshman year?" Wu Yue had seen the CET-6 written on the test paper before.

"Wait, shouldn't it be CET-4 first, then CET-6?" Jiang Lina said.

“You can register for both the CET-4 and CET-6 exams at the same time. I plan to take them after my freshman year,” Xia Minmin said.

"Is that okay? Then I'll take the exam too, the sooner the better," Wang Jing chimed in.

Duran listened to everyone's conversation with a blank expression, completely unable to understand anything about the CET-4 and CET-6 exams.
