Li Chunmei got up and went to look out of the private room. Li Zhonghua's family and Xia's maternal grandparents had not yet arrived, and she wondered if something had happened.
Seeing Li Chunmei's anxious expression, Xia Minmin said, "Mom, I'll go downstairs and see if Grandpa and Grandma have arrived yet!"
"Okay, be careful and remember the box number."
Xia Minmin took the elevator downstairs. The hotel was unusually quiet today. Last time she came to eat, there were many people coming and going, but today there were hardly any people. She didn't notice anything unusual when she got to the door.
Xia Minmin stood at the door for a while, and then heard some customers who came into the store say that there had been a serious traffic accident on the main road leading to the hotel. A dump truck had crashed into a bus, causing the bus to overturn and the injuries and fatalities were still unclear. They had also walked over.
After learning the details, Xia Minmin quickly went upstairs to tell Li Chunmei the situation so she wouldn't worry.
"Mom, there was a car accident on the road leading to the hotel. Grandpa and Grandma will be here soon."
Xia Xiaomei said, "Second sister-in-law, now you can finally rest assured!"
After learning the details, Li Chunmei felt relieved.
The group started chatting again.
Xia Xiaomei: "Second sister-in-law, is the house you bought in Shannan District finished being renovated? When do you plan to rent it out?"
"It should be ready to rent out next month, and your two houses should be almost ready by then, right?"
"Well, this can be considered a blessing in disguise. The financial crisis in Hong Kong caused our housing prices to drop as well, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to afford so many apartments!"
Xia Jianguo said, "I still remember when we went to the sales office to buy a house, many people laughed at us for being stupid and throwing money away. But things change, and who knows what will happen in the future! Judging from the rate at which money has depreciated in recent years, you won't lose money if you buy a house there."
thump thump thump…
The door to the private room was pushed open.
Xia Minmin got up and walked towards her maternal grandparents. "Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle, Aunt, and Sister Qing, why did it take you so long? We were so worried!"
Li Zhonghua wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, "We came here on foot after a car accident. The people on the bus haven't all been rescued yet."
Grandma Xia said, "I hope everyone can stay safe and sound."
Sun Erni handed the two bags that Li Zhonghua was carrying to Xiao Wu, saying, "Little sister Xiao Wu, congratulations on your marriage! This is a gift from our family to you, two sets of four-piece bedding, both red, perfect for newlyweds. May your lives be prosperous and thriving from now on."
Li Qing said, "Happy wedding, Aunt and Uncle!"
Xiao Wu gestured for everyone to sit down, saying, "It's getting late, everyone must be hungry, let's get ready for dinner!"
Xia Xiaomei asked the waiter at the door to bring out the food.
Li Zhonghua asked, "What were you talking about just now?"
Xia Jianguo said, "Speaking of housing prices in Shannan District, we bought several houses there before, and we plan to rent them out next month."
Sun Erni said, "Isn't that place very desolate?"
Li Chunmei said, "But it's cheap! It's about the same size as my house, and only costs 100,000 yuan, which is more cost-effective than depositing it in a bank. When we first came to Shenzhen, a one-year fixed deposit was about 10%, and a three-year fixed deposit was 12%. Look at how much fixed deposits are now?"
Xia Jianguo added, "Salaries in Shenzhen have at least doubled in the past few years, so you definitely won't lose money buying a house this time."
thump thump thump…
The waiter came in to serve the food.
Everyone looked at the table full of seafood; Xia Xiaomei and her husband had really gone all out this time.
Xiao Wu stood up and raised his glass. "Uncle and Aunt, brothers and sisters-in-law, Xiao Min and Xiao Qing, Xia Xia and I got our marriage certificate yesterday. We don't have many relatives or friends in Shenzhen, so thank you all for coming today."
Xiao Wu downed the glass of baijiu in one gulp.
Xia Minmin stood up and raised her orange juice. "I propose we all raise a glass to wish my aunt and uncle a happy marriage!"
"well."
"I'll listen to you!"
Everyone stood up to congratulate the newlyweds.
Grandma Xia said, "Little sister, Xiao Wu, you two must support each other and walk together. It is very precious for a young couple to grow old together, so you must cherish each other."
Xiao Wu said, "I understand, Auntie! Don't worry, we'll take good care of ourselves."
Grandpa Xia said, "Time flies! I still remember when my little sister came to our house with her in-laws to propose marriage. She's only a few years older than Xiaomin. I wonder how happy your in-laws will be if they know you're getting married!"
Upon hearing this, Xia Xiaomei recalled many memories with her parents, and the emotions she had finally managed to compose herself crumbled once again.
Grandma Xia slapped Grandpa Xia's arm, "You're talking nonsense! Look at you, making the child cry on your big day!"
"Xiaomin, I'm so sorry! Your uncle didn't mean it! Please forgive him!"
Xia Minmin picked up a piece of lobster meat with her chopsticks and gave it to Xia Xiaomei, saying, "If you don't eat it, Qingjie and I will eat all this seafood!"
Li Qing blushed, and with her other hand, which wasn't holding chopsticks, she reached out and gently pinched Xia Minmin's thigh. Xia Minmin's expression immediately changed.
After a satisfying meal and as it was getting late, everyone decided to head home.
The group stood at the hotel entrance for a while but no taxis passed by.
Xia Minmin asked, "Has the accident site not been cleared yet?"
Li Qing said, "That's possible. In that case, we'll just have to walk there and then hail a taxi."
When they reached the scene of the accident, Xia Jianguo immediately covered Xia Minmin's eyes; the scene was too gruesome. There were at least ten bodies on the ground.
Some were still inside the bus and hadn't been pulled out.
Taxis only started appearing more than 100 meters away from the accident site.
