Everyone had just finished lunch when the delivery room door opened, and the nurse everyone had been waiting for finally came out carrying the baby.
"Xia Xiaomei's family!"
Xiao Wu straightened up, supporting himself against the wall. "That's me!"
The nurse holding the baby looked at the family members surrounding her and said, "Congratulations on the birth of your precious child! Please take a look at the baby."
Xiao Wu asked anxiously, "Where is the woman in labor? Is she alright?"
Over the years as an obstetrics nurse, she has encountered all sorts of families of expectant mothers. She could probably only find twenty husbands this anxious in a year. “Family member, please wait a moment. The expectant mother is still under observation for about an hour and a half. She will be wheeled out with the baby.”
Upon hearing the news that Xia Xiaomei was safe and sound, Xiao Wu finally showed his first smile of the day.
The nurse carried the baby back into the delivery room.
Xia Minmin collected everyone's lunchboxes and threw them into the trash can. Now everyone was sitting in chairs, chatting and laughing.
Xiao Wu looked at him with a troubled expression. "Second brother, was Xiao Min born looking just like this kid? So ugly."
Xia Jianguo patted his shoulder, "Xiao Min was already fully grown when she was born. She had thick hair and a rosy complexion. When the nurse brought her out, she stared at me with her big eyes. When I looked at her and she looked at me, my heart melted instantly."
This was the first time Li Chunmei had heard Xia Jianguo say this, no wonder there was such a big difference between before and after having a child.
Xia Damei laughed and said, "Try to think positively. Not every child can have big eyes like Xiaomin. Xiaoyu was even uglier than your son when she was born. She'll look much better once she gets fatter."
Li Chunmei thought of Xiao Wu's surname and said, "Xiao Wu, what name are you planning to give the child? Your surname is so hard to choose."
Xiao Wu's good mood vanished at the mention of naming his child. "Sigh, I'm wondering if I should just use Xia Xia's surname? No matter what name I choose, it doesn't sound grand."
The other three remained silent.
When Xia Minmin came back after taking out the trash, she heard them talking about naming their child. "How about we just call her Xia? It has such a nice meaning."
Xiao Wu's eyes lit up and he quickly said, "Xiao Min, since that's the case, I'll leave this task to you. Go and persuade your aunt! She'll definitely listen to you."
Xia Minmin then realized that she had been tricked by Xiao Wu.
Xia Jianguo and Li Chunmei, these two naughty parents, were absolutely overjoyed, slapping their legs repeatedly.
Xia Damei suppressed a laugh, "Xiaomin, do you think your parents and I aren't talking to each other?"
Xia Minmin blushed.
Li Chunmei pulled her daughter's hand and made her sit on her lap. "It's not a big deal, we're not in a hurry. After your aunt comes out, we'll tell her the name, and whether she accepts it or not is her business."
Xiao Wu nudged Xia Minmin's arm. "Xiaomin, if you can convince your aunt, how about I, your uncle, give you a limited edition building block set?"
Xia Minmin snorted coldly, "I won't eat food offered with contempt!"
Xia Jianguo patted Xiao Wu with a smug look in his eyes, "You're finished! You've really angered my little princess this time."
The delivery room door opened again, and a nurse pushed the hospital bed out. "Xia Xiaomei's family, you can be taken to the ward now."
The people sitting in the chairs quickly picked up their things and stood up. The baby was in Xia Xiaomei's right arm. Xia Xiaomei smiled weakly at everyone. The baby was fast asleep at this moment.
Xia Xiaomei's ward is a double room with a bathroom. Xia Xiaomei's bed is by the window, and a TV is hung between the two beds.
The woman in the next bed is resting on her side, without any family members by her side.
Li Chunmei and Xia Damei helped Xiao Wu put away the things he brought. Xia Jianguo carried in a case of water and put it in the locker. Xia Minmin was intently studying the little kid.
Xiao Wu was deeply moved by his family members who were busy taking care of him, and whispered, "Second brother, second sister-in-law, and eldest sister, I don't know what I would have done without you all."
Li Chunmei smiled and said, "I've already said we're family, don't be so polite. Family members should help each other."
Xia Damei chimed in, "That's right, don't you and Xiaomei often help me pick up Xiaoyu?"
Xiao Wu said, "Yes, I won't say those things again. Xiaxia has given birth safely now. Second brother, second sister-in-law, and eldest sister, you should go back now! You've all stayed with me at the hospital all day."
Xia Xiaomei's voice became hoarse, "I'm fine now, you should all go home and rest. Second Brother is tired too, he just got back from Shanghai today."
Xia Damei thought for a moment, "I heard you guys say you're hiring a nanny to help with postpartum care. When will she be coming? I'll leave after she arrives."
Xiao Wu said, "It's an emergency, I haven't called the nanny yet."
Upon hearing Xiao Wu's words, Xia Jianguo handed him his phone. Xiao Wu took the phone and went out of the ward to make a call, while Xia Jianguo stood by the window looking at the scenery outside.
"Little sister, shall your older sister and I help you change your clothes?" Both of them are women who have given birth, and Li Chunmei and Xia Damei understand Xia Xiaomei's hardships the most.
Li Chunmei pulled up the bed railing, and Xia Damei prepared hot water to wipe Xia Xiaomei's body and change her into dry clothes, which finally made Xia Xiaomei feel comfortable.
"Why did you stay inside for so long today? I remember when I gave birth to Xiaoyu, it only took thirty minutes."
"Yes, it was about the same when I gave birth to Xiaomin."
Xia Xiaomei smiled bitterly, "Don't even mention it. The doctor said that my low pelvis and tight cervix caused my childbirth to be slow, and that episiotomies could only be performed at a certain position. I almost died from the pain because of this little brat. I will never have another child again, no matter what."
Li Chunmei looked at the takeout boxes on the cabinet. "Look at my forgetfulness, I forgot to ask if you wanted anything to eat. I packed you some millet porridge before, it's probably cold now."
