Chapter 124 Settling Down

The banquet that day was very lively, with many relatives and friends in attendance.

The day after the banquet, Li Zhonghua went to the train station and bought a train ticket. After returning home, Li Zhonghua was going to look at houses for Li Qiumei.

I originally planned to stay at home for about ten days, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to go home earlier.

After saying goodbye to Grandpa and Grandma Xia, the group boarded the train back to Shenzhen.

Li Zhonghua said, "Xiaomin, your parents won't be back until the day after tomorrow, so you'll stay with your sister Qing."

"Okay, Uncle."

Li Zhonghua then talked to Sun Erni about Li Qiumei buying a house.

Sun Erni said, "There are really very few cheap houses in Shenzhen these days. I don't know if I can reserve one with them."

Li Zhonghua said, "It's alright. At worst, we can buy a more expensive house. We'll lend them money so that their family of four isn't in danger."

Sun Erni said, "It was indeed very dangerous. If I hadn't heard it with my own ears, I would have always thought that what happened on TV was fake."

Li Zhonghua said, "Reality can only be darker than what's shown on television."

When Xia Jianguo and Li Chunmei returned, Li Zhonghua was still looking for a house.

Knowing that her parents were back, Xia Minmin quickly packed her bags and left Li Zhonghua's house, wanting to go home as soon as possible. "Sister Qing, I'm going home."

When Li Qing woke up from her afternoon nap, she was still unaware of what had happened. "Go back where? Aren't your parents still not back?"

Xia Minmin was very happy and kept stuffing things into her suitcase. "My parents are back. I had nothing to do today, so I called home, and my dad answered."

Li Qingting lay on the bed, looking reluctant to get up. "Let me sleep a little longer, and I'll take you home after sunset."

"Okay!" After receiving the reply, Xia Minmin continued packing her luggage without looking up.

It was almost dark when Li Zhonghua and Li Qing took Xia Minmin home.

Li Qing complained, "Dad, I told you I could take Xiaomin home by myself, no problem, but you insisted on coming with me. By the time we got home, the TV series had already finished airing."

Li Zhonghua completely ignored his youngest daughter's complaints. He had taken Xiaomin from Jianguo, and he should have safely handed her back over to Jianguo as well. "What's the big deal about missing one day of TV? Besides, it'll be rebroadcast tomorrow, won't it?"

Li Qing stopped speaking.

Li Chunmei noticed that Li Zhonghua, who was standing outside the door, had become much darker.

"Brother, did you go back to your hometown or go work in the coal mines? You've gotten so tanned."

Li Zhonghua was exasperated with his increasingly mischievous second sister. "Chunmei has established the country, and Xiaomin has been returned to you intact."

Xia Jianguo and Li Chunmei's daughter, who seemed to have grown a bit taller, had a hint of warmth welling up in her eyes.

Xia Minmin hugged her parents with both hands.

Xia Jianguo said, "Thank you, brother. I'm so grateful for your help these past few days. Please come in and have a seat. I'll pour you some tea."

Li Chunmei said, "Yes, brother, come in and sit for a while. Jianguo and I brought you some gifts."

Li Zhonghua and Li Qing originally planned to leave immediately after the handover, but they couldn't refuse and had to go inside for a chat.

Xia Minmin pushed her luggage and led Li Qing into her room.

Li Chunmei said, "Big brother, why did you suddenly come back? Jianguo and I were just thinking about whether we should go home. We didn't expect you to come back so quickly. Did something happen?"

When Li Zhonghua saw the two children enter the house, he quietly told Xia Jianguo and Li Chunmei the gist of what had happened.

Everyone was furious, but there was no better solution now.

Li Chunmei immediately decided to look for a house with Li Zhonghua the next day. "Brother, I'll go with you to look for a house tomorrow too. The two of us will be faster."

"Okay, you guys rest first, Xiaoqing and I will head back now."

Before leaving, Xia Jianguo handed the gifts he brought back to Li Zhonghua and Li Qing.

"Thank you, Jianguo," Li Zhonghua said, carrying a rather heavy gift.

"Thank you, Uncle-in-law." Li Qing was also carrying the gift she had prepared for her.

Li Chunmei smiled mysteriously, "Big brother, you'll definitely like this gift."

After Li Zhonghua left, Xia Minmin, unusually, hugged Li Chunmei and acted coquettishly.

"Mom, you have no idea how much I miss you!"

Li Chunmei stroked her daughter in her arms, "You will grow up eventually, and you will have to go out to study on your own in the future."

Xia Minmin buried her face in Li Chunmei's clothes, her voice somewhat muffled, "That's not now, I'm still young."

Seeing his daughter acting coquettishly, Xia Jianguo smiled and said, "Yes, yes, our Xiaomin is still young!"

Li Chunmei shrugged at Xia Minmin, "Xiaomin, how was your time back home? Did you have fun?"

Xia Minmin was a little annoyed when she talked about it, "It was great, but the time was too short. There were so many places we didn't get to go. Originally, Sister Qing's friend was going to take us to the mountains. I heard there are lots of wild fruits on the mountains now, and I wanted to pick some, but I didn't have the chance."

"Mom, what happened?"

Xia Minmin looked up at Li Chunmei.

Li Chunmei decisively refused to answer, saying, "No, you're just a child, don't worry about such things. Adults can take care of these matters."

Xia Minmin's intuition told her that something was definitely wrong, but since the adults weren't saying anything, she could only pretend not to know.

Li Chunmei and the others understood Li Zhonghua's meaning perfectly: they didn't want the children to know these things, fearing it would negatively impact their future development.

Li Zhonghua and Li Chunmei spent three days conducting on-site investigations for Wang Hao and Li Qiumei, compiling a list of all the houses they could afford in Shenzhen, including their advantages and disadvantages, just waiting for them to come and visit them one by one.

Most of the houses are small apartments priced below 150,000 yuan, and living there is definitely not as comfortable as living in a large house in my hometown.

Li Chunmei looked at the collected booklets with satisfaction. "Big brother, when will Qiumei and the others come?"

Li Zhonghua said, "They should arrive by noon tomorrow. How are the preparations for your and Jianguo's newly opened shop going?"

Li Chunmei said, "It's good. We've hired a few people recently. Jianguo is currently managing the new store. Once I finish dealing with Qiumei's matter, I'll take over managing the new store."

Li Zhonghua said, "The work is almost done, you can go home and rest early today."

After saying goodbye to Li Zhonghua, Li Chunmei went to the small supermarket.

In the small supermarket, Xia Minmin sat seriously behind the counter to pay. Aunt Chun and Aunt Hua, who used to work part-time, are now working full-time.

Through the efforts of the two sisters, they finally received compensation from the construction site, which greatly improved the family's financial situation, so they stopped doing multiple jobs.

Aunt Hua, with her sharpest eyes, immediately spotted Li Chunmei as she entered. "Boss lady, you're back?"

"Aunt Chun, Aunt Hua, thank you for your hard work these past few days." I'll give you a raise later.

Aunt Chun and Aunt Hua quickly refused, "Boss, really, there's no need. We used to be late or leave early because of our families, and you never deducted our wages. Now we're just working normally, and we feel guilty for giving us a raise."

Under Li Chunmei's repeated insistence, Aunt Chun and Aunt Hua had no choice but to agree to accept overtime pay.
