Chapter 58 Familiarity with the Environment: A Touching Experience

Because of her words, Gu Zhiyuan's eyes and brows lit up with a smile. He clinked glasses with hers, his tone gentler than he himself realized: "You're right. Come on, let's celebrate our new life."

Ji Wei loved the words "new life." These three words signified a complete break from her failed life in her previous existence. In this life, she had severed ties with her family of origin early on, and neither she nor Lulu would be influenced by the Ji family anymore. Her gaze fell on the two little ones over there, who were now celebrating by raising their soda bottles like adults. The smile in her eyes widened little by little; every day of the future was bright.

The meal was very enjoyable, but after the enjoyment came exhaustion. After a busy day, Ji Wei felt so weak that she could barely straighten her back when she got home. So even preparing the bathwater became Gu Zhiyuan's task.

The two children yawned incessantly as soon as they arrived home, indicating that it had been a very tiring day for them. In Wu'an, they were used to sleeping alone, and they quickly adapted to their new room in their new home. Just then, the door was pushed open, and she looked up at the person who came in and asked, "Are they both asleep?"

"Hmm, Lulu just fell asleep." Lulu was probably still a little shy, so he told her two stories before she fell asleep.

"Thank you for your hard work today," Ji Wei said, yawning. She was exhausted and sleepy.

"I can work a little harder, so Ms. Ji, would you like me to help you take a shower later?" Gu Zhiyuan looked at her with a smile.

"No need for that." Ji Wei shook her head. Even though the two of them had already been completely honest with each other, she still subconsciously refused to help with something as intimate as taking a bath.

Gu Zhiyuan was just teasing her. Seeing the even greater weariness in her eyes, he said gently, "The bathwater is ready. Go take a bath. I'll take them out for breakfast tomorrow morning. You can sleep a little longer."

"Okay." Ji Wei couldn't help but yawn after saying that, and then asked him, "Aren't you tired?" Logically speaking, he should be more tired than her, after all, he moved a lot of things, which all require strength.

"Not bad, see? The benefits of regular exercise are showing here." Gu Zhiyuan still hadn't given up on getting her to exercise with him.

“I can handle the afternoon and evening, but not the morning.” Ji Wei shook her head as she spoke. Going to school in the morning was already considered getting up early, and if she wanted to go for a morning run with him, she would have to get up an hour earlier, which she refused.

"Okay, once you're ready, we can try night running and take them for a few laps." The city is much safer at night than Wu'an, so night running is definitely something we can consider.

"I'll go take a shower first, we'll talk about it later." Seeing that he agreed, Ji Wei started to back down. Gu Zhiyuan took in her expression, then raised the corners of his lips. Fine, she just doesn't want to exercise, huh? Then she won't exercise.

On her first day in her new home, Ji Wei slept until nine o'clock. When she woke up, she was all alone at home. Gu Zhiyuan had left her a note by the bedside, saying that he would take the two children out for breakfast and help them get familiar with the surroundings, and would bring her breakfast when he returned.

After a good night's sleep, all the fatigue from last night vanished instantly. She got up and opened the bedroom window, and the cool breeze outside blew in, making her even more awake.

Just as Ji Wei returned from washing up, Gu Zhiyuan came back with breakfast and the two children. When he saw her get up, Lulu exclaimed, "Wow, Daddy is so amazing!"

"What?" Ji Wei was a little confused about her meaning.

“We were planning to play outside for a while, but Dad said you should be up by now, so we decided to come back first.” Gu Chen’an finished speaking and looked at Gu Zhiyuan with admiration. How did he know that his mother was already awake?

"Let's have breakfast first, it'll get cold later." Gu Zhiyuan said before looking at the two little ones and explaining to them, "Mom usually gets up around this time on weekends, so we'll go out together after she finishes eating."

He would be living here for at least the next year, and he felt it was necessary to familiarize himself with the surroundings and roads. Ji Wei agreed with this, but she wondered, "Don't you have to go to work today?"

"Brother Lü told me to rest at home for a couple more days, and it's not too late to go back to work the day after tomorrow." Not only were they moving to the city, but Lü Shuangcai also had this plan. His son, Lü Song, was already in junior high school, and the teaching quality in the city was definitely better than in Rong County. Moreover, it was better to transfer here now than to come here in the final year of junior high. They also planned to choose a house near Lü Song's school to rent, and move there directly after Jinxiuyuan was completed.

"What about Brother Wang and the others?" Ji Wei asked casually.

“Their business is still over there, and they plan to come back when their child enters junior high school,” Gu Zhiyuan said as he set out breakfast for her.

“They seem to be in fifth grade this year, so it doesn’t matter if they go through two more years.” Ji Wei felt that this was the best way to transition them. The children would graduate from elementary school, and their house in Jinxiuyuan would be renovated and ready for them to move in. They could then move directly to their new house and start junior high school. It was perfect.

"Well, everyone's plans are different." Gu Zhiyuan felt that the sooner they moved in, the sooner they could get away from the Ji family, which was a good thing for her.

During the two days Gu Zhiyuan stayed at home, he and Ji Wei took the children to familiarize themselves with the surrounding environment. After they got to know the vegetable market, hospital, bus stop, and various small shops, he finally went to work with peace of mind.

Compared to Wu'an, the city was a completely new environment for them. Fortunately, the two little ones had been attending classes at the Children's Palace for over a year and had made many friends, so they quickly adapted to the new environment. Ji Wei thought with a touch of envy that children are indeed the easiest to integrate into new lives, and their quick adaptation was good news for her.

By mid-August, Ji Wei was busy with various matters, including registering at her new school and attending meetings. As a result, the two little ones started going to work with Gu Zhiyuan. Gu Zhiyuan had changed jobs, which was a new experience for the two of them.

Busy days fly by, and in the blink of an eye, it's the end of August. Tomorrow is September 1st, the day to register at school. Both of them are new students, and they are currently discussing who to register first. Ji Wei didn't want to hear their discussion, since she wouldn't have any time tomorrow. This matter could only be handled by Gu Zhiyuan. Seeing the three of them walking towards her, she asked with a smile, "Have you all decided?"

"Okay, Mom, don't worry about going to school tomorrow. We can do it," Gu Chen'an encouraged her.

"Go, Mom!" Lulu followed closely behind.

"With your dad around, I really don't have to worry." Ji Wei smiled at Gu Zhiyuan. She wasn't lying; he was always meticulous and would arrange everything properly, so she felt at ease.

"With Teacher Ji's words, it's all worth it, no matter how tired I am," Gu Zhiyuan said, telling the two little ones to keep their schoolbags for tomorrow.

"Didn't I tell you not to call me Teacher Ji?" Ji Wei gave him a reproachful look.

“My bad. Will I be able to get their school’s schedule tomorrow?” Gu Zhiyuan asked.

"I'll go to the office tomorrow and ask. I can take them to school," Ji Wei said, indicating that he didn't need to worry about it.

“It was understandable before that I couldn’t deliver it when I wasn’t home, but now that we both live here, we can’t assume it’s your responsibility anymore. Besides, this place is so close to the school, it won’t take up much time. We’re novices at Jinxiuyuan, and we’re not that busy with work,” Gu Zhiyuan explained to her.

“It’s normal to be unfamiliar with an industry when you’re new to it. Besides Jinxiuyuan, do you have any other plans?” Ji Wei wanted to know their next steps.

"Brother Lü is already preparing to acquire new land, but it will probably be next year by the time he gets it. He has also hired three more drivers for the freight business, and his wife's supermarket has not yet been sold off."

"Is it not doing well?" Ji Wei frowned. This shouldn't be the case; it should be very popular.

"On the contrary, they are too popular. They are all relatives, and it feels like they would offend anyone if they gave it to anyone else. They are considering whether to just hire someone to watch the store from start to finish."

"That's true. It's actually quite good to have someone watch the shop and check the accounts regularly. There's no need to transfer the shop out." The shop already has a steady stream of customers. Transferring it to anyone would only benefit them. It's better to keep it for ourselves.

"So what about you? What are your plans for the future?" Gu Zhiyuan hadn't forgotten about the tutoring classes that Wu'an had been forced to shut down.

"No rush. We've only just arrived here. We'll make plans after we've settled in." Ji Wei naturally hadn't given up on the tutoring program, but since she was in an unfamiliar place, everything had to start from scratch.

"Do whatever you want. Both the freight business and Jinxiuyuan are currently profitable, so you don't need to worry about anything." Gu Zhiyuan offered his full support.

"But before that, shouldn't we pay them back first?" Ji Wei reminded her.

"Around the Chinese New Year," Gu Zhiyuan nodded, "I'll deposit the money into the two children's account once the freight company's profits come in."

Ji Wei was very satisfied with his attitude; at least he truly respected the child. That day, the whole family was filled with anticipation for tomorrow.

The two children adapted quickly to the new semester. Ji Wei adapted a little slower, but fortunately, she had taught at the Experimental Primary School in her previous life, so she was able to solve many small problems easily, and her work began to get on track.

When the weather started to cool down, Ji Wei was surprised to realize how much time had passed. It was already late autumn. When she took her child to buy winter clothes, she didn't forget to pick out two for Gu Zhiyuan as well. One of them, a black cashmere coat, was somewhat similar to the style he had brought back for her when he was out driving, so it was her favorite.

Gu Zhiyuan came home a little late tonight. Both children were asleep. Seeing the people in the living room, he said apologetically, "I forgot to tell you not to wait for me."

"It's okay, I couldn't sleep anyway. I took them shopping for clothes today, and I bought you one too." Now that I'm a businessman, it's not appropriate for me to wear my old clothes anymore.

"I have one too?" Gu Zhiyuan asked, somewhat surprised.

"Of course, you're the face of the family now, how can you still wear those military overcoats?" Ji Wei said, gesturing towards the place where the clothes were kept, indicating that he should try them on.

Instead of trying on the clothes first, Gu Zhiyuan pulled her into his arms. Ji Wei was puzzled: "What's wrong? You're moved by just a piece of clothing?"

"Yes, I'm just touched." Gu Zhiyuan buried his head in her shoulder. He wasn't lying; he was genuinely touched. It had been a long time since he had experienced someone preparing new clothes for him. At this moment, he once again thanked Ji Wei for choosing him.
