Chapter 13: Buying and Selling
After the two parties reached an agreement, Aunt He heard her say that the pumpkin cake could be kept for at least three days because it was cold now. When she wanted to eat it, she could just steam it or fry it over low heat.
She bought eight more.
An old lady nearby saw them whispering to each other, but she saw the golden pumpkin pie and came over to ask in a low voice, "How much is it?"
Chu Hong winked at Chu Dan.
It is impossible to let her do business forever, we have to train people as soon as possible.
Chu Dan hated herself for looking at her second sister, but she was unwilling to fall behind. Even though she was a little flustered and her legs were a little weak, she still spoke haltingly: "One cent each?"
The old lady gasped and said, "Pumpkins are only one cent a pound, and these cakes, which are not even the size of my palm, are only ten cents each. You are asking for too much."
Chu Dan was unhappy to hear this: "Glutinous rice flour costs 30 cents a pound and requires food coupons, and oil is even more expensive."
"Besides, this place is for people who are willing to spend money. If you think it's too expensive, go buy some steamed buns. Two for 1 cent, and they're guaranteed to fill your stomach."
Chu Hong had long known that Chu Dan had a bad temper, but she didn't expect him to be so arrogant towards customers.
She originally thought that the deal was off.
Who would have thought that the old lady was also a person who was willing to fight for her own rights. She immediately paid for two and said in a loud voice as if she was buying a house: "It's just two cents, right? Give me two."
"Okay." Chu Dan was not going to go against the money, so he took it immediately and wrapped two pumpkin cakes in rice dumplings and handed them to her.
The busiest time of the black market has passed and is about to end.
The guests who were preparing to go home and the sellers who were about to leave, when they heard the loud shouting, their first reaction was to think that someone was coming to catch them, and they wanted to run.
It’s because the buyers and sellers who come here are all as guilty and breathless as thieves. Only when that thing comes, the people who collect the management fee will shout loudly: Run!
But at this moment, I realized that it was the old lady who was giving me the money.
I suddenly felt like hitting someone.
There are a few vendors who came at one or two in the morning and haven't eaten yet. Their stomachs are probably revolting.
Seeing that Chu Hong and the others were selling pumpkin pie that were still a little warm, those who were willing to spend money came to buy one or two.
There were also a few people who had more money. After eating one, they liked it and bought a few more to take home for their family.
Although the pumpkin in this pumpkin pie is not expensive, it contains glutinous rice flour and white sugar, and tastes really good.
Besides, it’s troublesome to make it yourself, so it’s better to buy two to satisfy your craving.
Some smart people are planning to buy two to let their family members taste them and then try to make and sell them.
In less than half an hour, the basket of pumpkin pie was sold out.
The two sisters pretended to be calm and left, but they didn't notice that two men were riding bicycles and following them.
"We've sold out so quickly?" Chu Dan stepped on the bicycle pedals as if he was stepping on cotton. "How can anyone buy it even at such a high price?"
Suddenly, he was as excited as if he had taken a tonic pill: "I can earn a few dollars a day, and hundreds of dollars a month. Can we try again tomorrow?"
Chu Hong didn't expect it to be so smooth. She felt a little regretful at the moment and thought her sister was being blinded by money.
In order to dampen her enthusiasm, she could only sigh: "Don't expect too much. There are many business people there, and many smart people. Now that they see that our business is doing well, they will definitely follow suit and make pumpkin pie to sell."
Chu Hong said this deliberately to fool her sister, but when she went there again two days later, she actually found that there were several more shops selling pumpkin pie.
There were too many sellers, which led to vicious competition and they all lowered their prices.
Besides, there were many alleys here, and Chu Dan was afraid that someone might jump out from somewhere and it would be troublesome if he ran into him, so he rode very slowly.
What you fear will come true. A bicycle came from the corner and was about to hit you.
Chu Dan panicked, his hands began to tremble, and he screamed. The handlebars of his bicycle tilted and hit the wall before he hit the other person's bicycle.
The moment Chu Hong screamed, she immediately jumped out of the car.
Fortunately, she was not sitting astride the chair, so she did not get bruised and battered. However, when she jumped down, her shoulder hit the wall, and the pain made her tears flow uncontrollably.
He sat on the ground and couldn't get up for a while.
Chu Dan also fell to the ground with his bike, and was in so much pain that he couldn't move for a while.
The middle-aged man opposite also seemed to be frightened. He was stunned for a moment before quickly getting out of the car and helping Chu Dan first: "Hey, comrades, are you okay?"
He said enthusiastically, "My home is just in front. How about going to my home to rest first? Or should I take you to the health center?"
He looked like an extremely ordinary, honest and simple man, and his tone was caring, which made people feel that he was honest and reliable.
This is not the yellow mud field in the countryside, but a stone road. Chu Dan felt sorry for the bicycle and thought that the paint would most likely peel off.
She refused: "No, we are fine."
People nowadays are not pampered, especially those in the country. They also have to work. Not only are they strong, but they also don’t care about minor injuries or pains.
The middle-aged man still took out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped Chu Dan's blood: "You are bleeding, let me wipe it for you."
But the handkerchief used to wipe Chu Dan's face was covering her mouth and nose.
Fearing that she would struggle, he put his other hand around her neck and held her tightly in his arms.
“Wuwuwu…” Chu Dan looked at him in horror and struggled desperately.
Unfortunately, not to mention the huge difference in physical strength between men and women, she was also sitting on the ground at the moment, her whole body was in pain, and she was completely unable to struggle free from his grip.
All this happened in just a few breaths.
The moment Chu Hong saw the stranger's enthusiasm, she felt a little creepy.
Every failure is a learning experience.
Before she could remind him, she saw him take action.
Chu Hong really wanted to cry. Isn’t this too unlucky?
Something bad will happen if I go to Shencheng. Will I also run into people like this in town?
Her first reaction was to run.
I definitely can’t defeat him, and there’s a high chance that he has accomplices.
If she could run, Chu Dan would still have a chance of survival, otherwise neither of the two sisters would be able to escape.
But before she could run away, she saw Wu Wei walking towards her from the other side.
He was fearless, put one hand in his pocket to act cool, and said the classic quote of the villain: "Don't waste your energy shouting for help. There are not many people here. Even if you shout your throat out, no one will dare to come out to save you."
He boasted proudly: "Even if there is someone, I wouldn't dare to meddle in other people's business if I saw it was me."
The alleys here are small and the houses are dilapidated. After liberation, the residents found ways to move out one after another, which is why it became a place for black market transactions.
