Chapter 5: Collision
Chu Hong thought that Grandma Jia knew medicine, so she asked her to check on her elder sister.
Grandma Jia knew what was going on as soon as she saw it: "She must have sprained it. I'll rub it for her and apply a cold towel to it."
As soon as she started to move, Chu Tong almost cried because of the pain.
But after she let go and applied a cold towel, the pain was much relieved.
Chu Tong thanked with a grateful look on her face: "I'm much better now, thank you, Auntie."
Grandma Jia was able to come as soon as she was called, thanks to Chu Hong's care. She smiled gently and said, "You're welcome. In the past, it was your sister who took care of us most of the time."
Chu Hong had asked her to check the pulses of everyone in the family a long time ago. Now, thinking about her elder sister not being pregnant for several years, she was moved and said with a smile: "Grandma Jia, please check on my sister. She has been motionless since she gave birth to Xiaoyuer."
Chu Tong also cooperated by stretching out her hand, and watched her nervously as she took her pulse.
After feeling her pulse, Grandma Jia said, "You may be dizzy and weak from time to time, and your menstrual periods are irregular. This is due to anemia. There is nothing else serious, and it will not affect your pregnancy."
It’s not that she downplayed it, but anemia is very normal in the countryside nowadays.
It's all caused by insufficient nutrition. Nine out of ten people have this symptom.
Chu Hong also used a ready-made example to persuade her: "Can you rest assured now? For example, after our second aunt gave birth to Xiaobin, she was also quiet until this year, right?"
Grandma Jia also nodded: "You have to relax, be in a good mood, and don't think too much."
Chu Tong smiled embarrassedly: "I remember it all."
The next morning, it was raining heavily and lightly, with a few snowflakes occasionally mixed in.
Secretary Song did not go to town today, but was in a meeting with the team leader, the scorer, and Chu Hong, the administrator and accountant.
The main thing is to listen to him talk about things in the town. Even if they are not good things, I have to tell them about them to avoid doing something wrong and falling into their hands. If I don't die, I will be skinned alive.
Another thing is to do ideological work.
Chu Hong also listened patiently.
What you learn from books is always superficial. Now when I hear him say this, I tremble in my heart.
Remind myself again that I have to stay safe in the next few years.
Seeing smoke coming out of other people's chimneys, Party Secretary Song also said one last thing: "I went to town yesterday and heard that the enamel pot factory has a batch of defective enamel cups. No tickets are required, but the price is not cheap. If you want, go and take a look as soon as possible."
Except for Chu Hong, the others all stood up excitedly: "Why didn't you tell us earlier? Let's go back and ask."
As soon as he finished speaking, everyone had left.
Chu Hong asked, "Dad, why didn't you buy it?"
"I bought it," Secretary Song said, for sure he would not miss it. "I'll leave the new one for your mother."
Chu Hong agreed when she thought about it. Enamel cups will be eliminated sooner or later. She still prefers ceramic cups, so she has no regrets.
She asked again: "Has the approval for collective breeding been approved?"
Secretary Song shook his head: "Not yet. I heard that the city hasn't responded yet."
Chu Hong was speechless about the efficiency of this work and could only sigh: "It's a pity that there are only three families in our village who raise ducks, and when the weather gets cold, they are unwilling to lay duck eggs."
"Otherwise, we might as well buy duck eggs to hatch."
Secretary Song laughed instead: "How can it be so easy..."
At this moment, Song Lao Er came running over anxiously: "Brother, lend me your bicycle. Qiaofang fell and is bleeding. I have to take her to the hospital."
Secretary Song was also helpless: "The road is not easy to walk on now. I almost fell several times when I came back yesterday. Ox carts are more stable."
Now the roads in the countryside are all dirt roads, there is water everywhere, and they are muddy and it is easy to fall.
Song Laoer thought the same and decided to go to his eldest brother's house and call his father over.
Old Man Song is an experienced rickshaw driver, and neither of his two sons can compare to him.
When Old Lady Song heard this, she also panicked. Her second daughter-in-law was nearly 40 years old, and she was really afraid of danger, so she followed him: "You are all men, clumsy, I will follow and lend a hand."
Secretary Song hurried home to get a piece of plastic sheet and an umbrella, and gave them to his mother: "How about I go with you?"
"No need," Mrs. Song refused. "You are a grown man, and you can't help if you go. I can just go with you."
Chu Hong also went to her second uncle's house to visit her second aunt. Thinking of Grandma Jia, she wanted to say something but swallowed it back.
Second Aunt is not someone you can easily mess with. If anything happens to her, Grandma Jia might be driven to death by her.
Looking at Second Aunt's face, it didn't look too bad. She just wanted to go to the hospital because she was worried about the baby in her belly.
Therefore, Chu Hong swallowed her words.
Secretary Song and Chu Hong watched them leave before going home.
Chu Dan was still peeling potatoes with chopsticks. When he saw them coming in, he asked curiously, "What delicious food did my second uncle make? Did they call grandpa and grandma away?"
Although Second Aunt is a little stingy, she is a good cook, especially stewed mixed fish and pickled fish cubes are particularly delicious.
She wants to learn more?
"Do you need my help?"
Of course, when I make dumplings and wontons at home, I always invite my second uncle and his family to come over to eat.
"You think too much." Chu Hong sighed: "Second Aunt fell down, Grandpa and Second Uncle took her to the hospital, and Grandma went to take care of her."
If the patient really needs to be hospitalized, they will have to go and visit him.
Chu Dan gasped, "That must be painful."
His eyes rolled, and he leaned close to Chu Hong's ear and whispered, "Did something happen in our family? My eldest sister fell down yesterday, and my second aunt also fell down today?"
I'm a little worried that it will be my turn tomorrow.
Chu Hong didn't know whether to laugh or cry: "I didn't expect you to be so superstitious."
"I'm sorry to disappoint you. I heard from the captain that many people slipped when they went out yesterday. It's not just us who slipped."
He urged her again: "Peel a few more potatoes so I can make some shredded potatoes for lunch."
There is really not much food to eat now, and there are only a few eggs left. I just had some fried shredded potatoes and a plate of stir-fried vegetable stems for lunch.
The main reason is that the green vegetables nowadays are very big and the stems are very thick, so they taste a little better when stir-fried.
When they were getting ready to eat, Gu Ci came in with several net bags in both hands: "Uncle Song, Sister Song, hello."
Secretary Song was sure that he didn't know him. Thinking of the educated youth his daughter had talked about yesterday, he smiled and said, "You must be Gu Ci, right? Come in quickly. Haven't you eaten yet? Come and eat with us."
Gu Ci went to the town early this morning on a ox cart and bought a lot of things as a thank-you gift to the Song family.
"Then I won't be polite." He also had a big bag on his back, and took out two aluminum lunch boxes from it and opened them: "It just so happens that I bought some braised food from town."
One lunch box contained roast chicken, and the other contained braised pork. Although they were a little cold, the overbearing aroma still made everyone swallow their saliva.
Fortunately, Secretary Song still had some sense and closed the lid immediately: "You can just take it back and eat it yourself. How can I let you spend money?"
