Chapter 602 New Strategies for Tibet

For Zhao Huan, the problem of the Tibetans was not difficult to solve.

More than three hundred years ago, Langdarma, the last Tibetan king, was killed by Buddhist forces for opposing Buddhism, which officially ended the Tibetan dynasty and led to a return to the tribal era.

For over three hundred years, Buddhist and aristocratic forces have been entangled and fighting in Tibet, and this struggle has never ceased.

It is certain that Buddhism faced great difficulties in Tibet for over three hundred years, constantly being severely suppressed by secular nobles.

After reviewing all the information about Tibet that had been collected, Zhao Huan couldn't help but sigh: all religions begin from the very bottom.

Religion is a form of spiritual comfort. In ancient times, the lives of ordinary people at the bottom of society were quite miserable. Unable to obtain more resources and wealth, they could only choose spiritual comfort to console themselves.

It was only after it had gained a certain influence among the common people that it began to spread to the upper classes.

This is true in both the East and the West.

Buddhism struggled in Tibet for hundreds of years and was still not fully accepted by the secular nobility.

After several large-scale anti-Buddhist movements, it has been unable to raise its head.

Now, Zhao Huan is going to teach Tibetan Buddhism to start anew.

"Your Majesty, the Yima Dangzheng has been delivered."

"Announce!"

Yima Dangzheng was a little nervous. He had never met the Emperor of the Song Dynasty, but had only heard that the Emperor liked to kill people.

After he entered, he immediately prostrated himself on the ground without saying a word: "This sinful subject pays respects to Your Majesty."

"What crime have you committed?"

Yi Ma Dang, trembling with fear, said, "My sinful elder brother gathered a crowd to plot a rebellion, repaying kindness with enmity. I was unable to stop him, therefore I am guilty!"

"Get up."

Yi Ma Dangzheng quickly got up from the ground, but kept his head down and still dared not look at Zhao Huan.

He felt as if a mountain was pressing down on his chest.

Zhao Huan suddenly said, "Treason is punishable by the extermination of nine generations of one's family."

Yima Dangzheng was so frightened that he prostrated himself on the ground again: "Your Majesty, please forgive me!"

"stand up!"

"This guilty subject dares not!"

"I tell you to get up!"

Yima Dangzheng quickly got up again.

“If I wanted to kill you, you wouldn’t be able to reach Tokyo, much less me.”

"Thank you, Your Majesty!"

Zhao Huan shouted, "Don't worry, not only will I not kill you, I will also let you return to Tibet and make you the Tibetan king!"

Yi Ma Dangzheng suddenly looked up and stared at Zhao Huan in disbelief, but then he realized that this great disrespect was mainly because he was too afraid.

He quickly lowered his head: "Your Majesty, this..."

"You don't want to?"

"willing!"

"Very well, I hereby bestow upon you the title of Zanpu. Anyone who disobeys you will be sent to meet the King of Hell."

"Thank you, Your Majesty!"

The high-altitude climate is not pleasant, especially for someone as physically strong as Sima Junru.

He has experienced altitude sickness several times already.

However, with the help of the Tibetans, he successfully arrived at the Jokhang Temple.

After all, at this point, his identity was that of a tea merchant.

Tea is very popular in Tibet, and no one dislikes tea merchants.

The purpose of coming to Jokhang Temple was to meet Druppa, a monk of high status in Tibetan Buddhism.

Because of the Tibetan diet, tea was essential for digestion, so tea merchants were revered as virtuous people in Tibet.

This is one of the reasons why Sima Junru, disguised as a tea merchant, was able to enter the Jokhang Temple.

Of course, this is for outsiders to see.

The real reason Zhuopuba met with Sima Junru was because Tibetan Buddhism needed stronger support.

Sima Junru clasped her hands together and said, "Greetings, Master."

"Are you from the Central Plains, benefactor?" Zhuopuba asked in somewhat awkward Song Dynasty Mandarin.

Sima Junru was surprised that the old monk could speak some Mandarin, making the translator beside him seem somewhat superfluous.

He asked the translator next to him to go out first.

"Yes."

What brings you here?

"I am here on behalf of His Majesty the Emperor of the Great Song Dynasty to extend my greetings to the Master."

Zhuo Puba was slightly taken aback, not expecting the man in front of him to have such an extraordinary background.

He quickly stood up, bowed deeply, and said, "This humble monk pays homage to the Emperor of the Great Song Dynasty."

Zhuopuba still knows clearly what happened in Longyou and Qingtang. Longza and the leaders of various tribes were all executed for treason.

This event caused a major upheaval in Tibet.

Originally, Tibet was divided into two factions: some wanted to rebel, but not everyone wanted to rebel.

For example, Zhuopuba, a high-ranking Buddhist monk, believed that Longzha's reconstruction of the Tubo Dynasty would not benefit Buddhism in Tubo.

Longza was a complete secularist, not much different from Langdarma.

If he were to unify Tibet, he might start persecuting Buddhism again.

The Buddhist traditions that have been painstakingly built up in Tibet over the past three hundred years could very well be destroyed in an instant.

To some extent, Zhao Huan helped Zhuo Pu Ba.

When Zhuopu Ba learned that Sima Junru was Zhao Huan's envoy, he was naturally secretly delighted.

His mind raced. The Emperor of the Song Dynasty had sent someone to meet him secretly, which meant it must be something very important.

“Master, His Majesty is deeply saddened by the dire suffering of the Tibetan people and says that you can save Tibet.”

"Your Majesty is too kind. This humble monk has only done his best."

“Master, His Majesty has persuaded Yima Dangzheng to become the Zanpu (king), and His Majesty will bestow upon you the title of Dalai Lama.”

"The Dalai Lama?"

"Yes, His Majesty will fully support the Master in promoting Buddhism. Anyone who obstructs you will be severely punished by the court!"

Zhuopuba was overjoyed.

With the support of the Song Dynasty, Buddhism no longer had to face such difficulties in Tibet as it had in recent years.

"Thank you, Your Majesty."
