Chapter 164 High Alert Ahead, Listen to a Comedy Show with Shushu

In front of the other people in the coffee shop, Jian Yan felt embarrassed to refuse Qin Shu. She tugged at his sleeve and quickly walked out of the hotel onto the street.

"Qin Shu, thank you for your kindness, but I don't like listening to crosstalk. Please invite someone else." She turned away from him, rejecting him directly.

Qin Shu subtly poked her shoulder, "Jian Xiaoyan, how do you know if you like it or not if you don't try? It's really great. There are quite a few female audience members who like crosstalk, and it's very stress-relieving."

That's such a wild guess.

Jian Yan turned around and looked up at him. There was no way around it; the height difference was just awful. "Which eye of yours is making me feel pressured? I'm fine. The main thing is that I'm really busy and don't want to waste time on meaningless things."

Qin Shu's eyes were fixed on Jian Yan, small and stubborn. "If you feel awkward being with me, here's the ticket. You can invite other friends to see it."

Qin Shu handed over two tickets; there were only two.

Jian Yan was almost driven to her wits' end. Her attitude had become so terrible, how could he still tolerate it? "Qin Shu, I think I told you before that I have a boyfriend and I won't accept ambiguous feelings from others. You helped my brother, and I'm grateful to you, but one thing is one thing."

Qin Shu was helpless. What could he do? Last night, after hearing Lao Huo's words, he was working on a program with panda eyes, feeling exploited by his boss. Afterwards, he couldn't sleep, so he lay in bed with his laptop, searching for ways to make girls happy. A netizen suggested going to a Deyun Club crosstalk performance. To get tickets for today, he paid a high price from a scalper.

“Jian Xiaoyan, look me in the eyes and say you’re fine, and I’ll leave immediately.”

Jian Yan pursed her lips, her eyes clear and bright. She took a three-second breath, then said, "Qin Shu, I'm fine."

Qin Shu left as instructed, his figure alone.

Jian Yan felt a sudden pang of pain in her heart; she didn't understand why she felt this way. The two tickets kept beckoning to her, and she heard her own inner voice echoing in them.

She caught up with him, snatched the ticket from his hand, and walked on without looking at him, saying, "I just didn't want to waste it. Don't buy it next time, it's so much more expensive than a movie ticket!"

The scalpers charge even more! Qin Shu didn't intend to say that. He chuckled, "Then I'll treat you to a movie next time."

There will be no next time.

Following the lead, Jian Yan thought Qin Shu was incredibly shameless.

If Qin Shu knew what she was really thinking, he would probably say something like, "Old Huo's skin is even thicker."

That was Jian Yan's first time listening to crosstalk. Qin Shu bought a high seat, and she even saw some celebrities who came to support her.

The performance began with a solo act in classical Chinese. Everyone settled in, and many audience members started cracking sunflower seeds. Apparently, people come to listen to crosstalk to buy sunflower seeds. Qin Shu greeted the aunt next to him, asking where she bought her sunflower seeds.

The auntie from Beijing was incredibly enthusiastic. "Oh, young people like listening to crosstalk too? We're kindred spirits. Don't buy anything, have some of mine." She pushed the plate of sunflower seeds right over to me.

Jian Yan was too embarrassed to take other people's things, but Qin Shu didn't stand on ceremony. He grabbed a handful and stuffed them into Jian Yan's hand, saying sweetly, "Auntie, thank you. People who listen to crosstalk have such beautiful smiles."

The aunt was very pleased with the photos and pulled Jian Yan aside, saying, "Your boyfriend is really great. He's polite, capable, and respects tradition."

Look at all that praise! Jian Yan blushed crimson. She didn't want to explain to a stranger; the more she explained, the more confusing it became. "Him? He's just good with words."

The aunt's smile became even more meaningful. "It's good to have a silver tongue; you know how to sweet-talk people."

Yes, Jian Yan has been pampered like a little princess.

Next came a one-on-one crosstalk performance, full of hilarious jokes. The audience laughed from beginning to end because everyone in the audience loved this kind of thing, getting the jokes and understanding the humor perfectly, creating a wonderful atmosphere. Jian Yan was no exception; she almost burst into tears.

"Qin Shu," Jian Yan whispered, "I'm about to die, my stomach hurts."

"Huh?" Qin Shu's head instantly throbbed. He glanced outside; the sheer number of people rushing out seemed a bit much. Oh well, never mind.

He took Jian Yan's hand and pulled her outside.

Jian Yan was confused, but she felt a warmth on her hands and her heart felt like it had been electrified. She just followed him like that.

After finally leaving the venue, Qin Shu comforted her, "Jian Xiaoyan, wait for me here, I'll go buy you... that thing."

Even the usually thick-skinned Qin Shu blushed crimson. This was his first time ever!

"What is that thing?" Jian Yan asked, her eyes innocent and naive.

Qin Shu couldn't resist and wanted to kiss her. He lowered his head, his lips almost touching her eyelashes, when he suddenly realized they hadn't taken care of the important matter yet. "I...I...I'll buy you sanitary napkins first, wait for me."

Jian Yan, who was almost out of breath, was pulled back to reality by Qin Shu's outrageous actions. She grabbed him, "Qin Shu, you filthy scoundrel."

Why would I buy that thing for no reason?

Qin Shu shrugged, feeling wronged. "Didn't you say you couldn't take it anymore, that your stomach hurt?"

This is a huge misunderstanding!

Jian Yan was both embarrassed and annoyed, her ears burning red. "I said my stomach hurt from laughing."

The night was beautiful, the wind was gentle, and even her lover's eyes were filled with pink bubbles. Qin Shu, like a child who had done something wrong, said, "What should we do? We're already out."

Jian Yan was quite satisfied. "Qin Shu, take me home."

There was a vendor selling jianbing guozi (Chinese crepes) up ahead, and many young couples would order one, with the girl taking a bite and then giving it to the boy.

A jianbing guozi sweeter than first love.

Jian Yan glanced at it, swallowed, and realized she was indeed a little hungry.

Qin Shu noticed and bought one. "Here, for you."

Jian Yan waited five meters away, looking at the jianbing guozi in his hand, "Why did you only buy one?"

Qin Shu lied through his teeth: "It was my oversight. I didn't bring much money, just enough to buy one."

There's only one, give it all to her. Jian Yan doesn't take it, "I need to lose weight, I can't eat in the middle of the night."

"I don't mind if you're a little chubby," Qin Shu blurted out, then immediately slapped himself. "My mouth just doesn't know how to shut up. Jian Xiaoyan, you..."

She ate a jianbing (Chinese crepe) in the night breeze. She'd only eaten a little over half when she was full. Qin Shu watched her eat, his Adam's apple bobbing.

"I'm full." She held the remaining half of her food, looking conflicted.

"Farmers work hard to grow food, so we shouldn't waste it." Qin Shu grabbed the rest of the food and ate it as he walked towards the parking lot.

Driving a Range Rover, eating jianbing (Chinese crepe), and having a girl I like by my side—that's wonderful.

Fifty minutes later, the Land Rover arrived at Xianghu Bay. Jian Yan unbuckled her seatbelt. "Qin Shu, thank you for today. I'm very happy."

Qin Shu let out a burp, feeling bloated with love. "Me too. Jian Xiaoyan, goodnight."

Jian Yan returned to the villa. Qin Shu then drove to a convenience store and, under the clerk's disapproving look, bought a pack of sanitary napkins. Even though it hadn't actually happened this time, he might need them sometime in the future; it's always good to be prepared.
