Chapter 3: First Day on the Job, Accidentally Entering the Former's Territory

The little beetle suddenly stepped on the gas, catching Jian Yan completely off guard; her baby face turned pale with fright. Her tiny, claw-like hands gripped the top handle!

"Hey, I'd rather be late and get a complaint than lose my life."

In fact, even F1 cars can't be driven in the CBD. Xue Qiandai lied through her teeth: "The boss's accelerator isn't very sensitive; there's no cushioning when you floor it."

"I don't believe you!" Jian Yan patted her chest and looked at the car that had come down, finally calming down a bit.

Parking was difficult on the street, so Xue Qiandai drove into the underground garage with practiced ease.

Jian Yan was shocked.

This wasn't just a garage; it was more opulent than the lobby of her rented apartment. The first thing she saw after getting out of the car was a motorhome. Just how big was that parking space?! But the most eye-catching sight was definitely the row of top-of-the-line luxury cars. Compared to them, her little Beetle looked incredibly cheap, almost utterly pathetic.

While Jian Yan was still in shock, Xue Qiandai had already opened the trunk. She couldn't lift the delivery box, and she looked at Jian Yan with pleading eyes.

"Popeye" Jian Yan lifted the box with a burst of energy. Xue Qiandai, wanting to show her loyalty, also reached for the box, though she didn't lift it.

Jian Yan snorted irritably, secretly cursing herself for meddling in other people's business. What an ingrate!

She had only taken a few steps when she could no longer move. Not because she was tired, but because the sports car in front of her was too cool.

Its logo is somewhat like Porsche's: a red shield with a soaring griffin on it, standing out from the crowd. The front is the most eye-catching, with narrow taillights and two lenses that give it a sharp look. The hood features two muscular curves, like V-lines, exuding a powerful and athletic feel. The rear is even more flamboyant, with a huge rear wing and four taillights that seem to be warning pedestrians, "Don't mess with me."

As a graduate of Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, Jian Yan tries her best to learn about and maintain an interest in everything related to fashion. However, due to financial constraints, she cannot do more.

Xue Qiandai smiled and said, "You have good taste. This is the Apollo Sun God, which surpasses all supercars. It's a brand founded in 2004 by an Audi engineer, with a global annual production of 50 units and a domestic price of 17 million."

Jian Yan gasped. Even if she didn't eat, drink, or spend any money, it would probably take her 100 years to earn that much. This was a sports car in the sky—something to admire from afar, not to be touched!

The distance from the parking space to the elevator is short, but Jian Yan has already seen several particularly cool and arrogant cars that look like they could blow up the place.

Xue Qiandai did not show any disdain for the country bumpkin and patiently explained everything to him.

"This is the Pagani Zonda F, which dances with the gods. It was first unveiled at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show and can accelerate from 0 to 100 mph in just 3.5 seconds. Only 25 units are produced worldwide each year, and the current price in China is 28 million yuan."

"This is a Bugatti Veyron, priced at 40 million yuan in China, and there are currently no more than 10 units available."

"This is an Aston Martin ONE-77, priced at 47 million yuan in China, with a global limited edition of 77 units, and only 5 units available in Greater China."

Jianyan had a misconception.

The city is full of tricks; I want to go back to the countryside. I don't understand the world of the rich.

Carrying the suitcase, the two girls got into the elevator and pressed the button for the 27th floor. "You know so much, you must be a real rich heiress, right? Why would a rich heiress use counterfeit goods?" Jian Yan was now full of questions about Xue Qiandai.

Xue Qiandai replied with an emoji that said, "Don't be obsessed with me, I'm just a legend." And now, the martial arts world of the capital is wiping her out.

The elevator reached the first floor, and many more people boarded, quickly filling the car. Xue Qiandai abandoned all pretense, placing her hands behind her back and slightly raising her chin, exuding an air of haughtiness. Jian Yan understood; she hadn't yet gotten used to being a delivery driver—she was definitely a wealthy heiress!

Upon reaching the 27th floor, Jian Yan led the way into an internet company called "Chaoxun Technology," while Xue Qiandai followed behind, glancing at the character "Chao" once more.

A woman in her late twenties sat at the table, sporting wavy curls and wearing a mint green chiffon blouse reminiscent of Scandinavian royalty. She looked cool and exuded a certain air of authority. She didn't seem like a receptionist; she looked more like an administrative manager. "You're fifteen minutes late, so our afternoon tea has been involuntarily postponed."

The tone was flat, without any overt emotion, but the literal meaning was very clear.

Jian Yan placed the box on the front desk, her forehead covered in sweat. She wiped it with her sleeve, panting, and said with a smile, "Sorry, Sister Yun, it's Black Friday, and our boss said all coffees are 20% off. Orders have surged, and the boss himself has been busy with the sales."

Behind her, Xue Qiandai covered her mouth with the back of her hand. She thought to herself, "This little girl is quite something, learning on the spot and even applying it to other situations."

"Business is good!" The administrative supervisor, Fang Yun, was a kind person who wouldn't refuse a smile, especially since she had given him a discount.

“Yes, our coffee is great, and all the customers who have tried it say it’s excellent!” Jian Yan chimed in.

Fang Yun picked up a microphone from the table and announced: "Afternoon tea time has arrived. First come, first served. Limited quantities available."

As soon as he finished speaking, a group of programmers dressed in T-shirts, shorts, and sandals rushed over from their seats. There were about thirty of them, three-quarters of whom were men, laughing and joking as they came to get their coffee.

Fang Yun, holding a debit card, winked at Jian Yan and Xue Qiandai behind her, and the group moved aside. "Did you bring the POS machine?"

She had to bring her tools of the trade, so Jian Yan took out a POS machine from her waist bag.

"Your boss is quite good at business. You should learn from her." Fang Yun said with a smile.

“Yes, yes, yes.” Jian Yan nodded repeatedly.

Xue Qiandai's eyes were still fixed on the group of programmers. Having grown accustomed to the suits and ties of the CBD, the tech guys seemed somewhat out of place.

Two tall boys walked by, one of them with a straw in his mouth, and said to the other, "Boss, a customer just called to report a bug in the system. He stole his friend's crops, but his coins didn't increase."

The boy called "boss" paused. "In a bit, we'll test it together..." He didn't say anything more, his gaze fixed on Xue Qiandai. For a moment, he seemed dazed, then surprised and delighted. He called out, "Junior Sister Xue..."

From seeing the company's name and hearing them talk about "stealing vegetables" (a popular online game), to the boy in front of her, Xue Qiandai was certain. How tragic was her life? At her lowest point, she finally found a job, only to find herself in that person's territory right after starting. She pretended to have a headache, rubbing her forehead, ignoring the boy, and said to Jian Yan, "My stomach hurts, I'm going to the restroom."

As she spoke, she turned around hastily. Because of her emotional outburst, she was walking with her arms and legs moving in unison, and Xue Qiandai wished she could disappear into the ground.

Fang Yun observed all of this and asked suspiciously, "Does your girlfriend know our CTO?"

Jian Yan shook her head. "You're asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?"

The CTO's name was Qin Shu, the chief technology officer of Chaoxun Technology. He watched Xue Qiandai flee in disarray, then strode forward and made a phone call. "Hey, where are you? I see your ex, he's here."

"Ex" is a common term on BBS forums, meaning "former partner".
