Chapter 26 The Date - Part 1 (Bonus Chapter 1)
After finally getting Xie Sheng's consent, Pu Xia immediately went to check in.
Since Bai County itself is not very big, the dormitories built by the school are mostly occupied by day students from more remote areas.
The dormitory building was mostly empty. By paying a little more money, one could easily have a room to oneself, which suited Pu Xia's taste perfectly.
On a sunny weekend, Pu Xia packed her things and prepared to move in.
Xie Sheng was in a bad mood. After smoking a cigarette on the balcony, he carried her packed belongings downstairs.
When he got downstairs, he took out a car key from his pocket. A black Toyota nearby beeped and unlocked itself. He then opened the trunk and put Pu Xia's things inside.
Pu Xia then realized that if Xie Sheng hadn't repeated a grade, he would indeed be of college age.
She got into the passenger seat, looked around, and seemed quite interested. "Your car?"
Xie Sheng turned the steering wheel around with one hand and responded with a "Mm".
"From selling alcohol?"
He chuckled, his tone lazy and teasing, "Well, thanks to Miss's generous offer of 100,000 for a night with me, I've made quite a bit of money."
Pu Xia scoffed. Just because she didn't know much about cars didn't mean she couldn't estimate the price. This car must cost at least 300,000 yuan.
Following his words, she thought of that night, the men and women surrounding Xie Sheng. If she remembered correctly, there was one leaning on his shoulder and another holding his arm.
“It’s not just up to me, is it?” Pu Xia said calmly.
Xie Sheng glanced at the girl's expression out of the corner of his eye, but couldn't discern anything. However, the small gesture of picking at her fingertips gave everything away.
"What nonsense are you thinking? Do you really think I'm just a wine seller?"
Upon hearing this, something seemed amiss, and Pu Xia's eyes widened in astonishment.
Xie Sheng was both amused and exasperated, realizing for the first time that his cultural level was indeed a bit low. He quickly corrected himself, "No, what I mean is, I do sell more than just alcohol, but please don't get the wrong idea. I'm part of 'Nightfall'."
This was somewhat unexpected for Pu Xia.
She had frequented bars before and knew that opening a bar was not a simple matter; connections and capital were both indispensable.
The last time she went to Nightclub, the sheer number of people there at that time proved the bar was quite popular. Even in a small city like Liucheng, setting up something like this wasn't an easy task.
In her eyes, Xie Sheng had always been a lazy, aimless person, but today she had a new perspective on him; she hadn't expected him to have a proper job.
Xie Sheng noticed the surprise on Pu Xia's face, and his thoughts wandered off to completely different places.
When he arrived at the school, he parked the car and said to Pu Xia, "The money for the investment was left by my mother before, and it has nothing to do with Pu Ming."
Pu Xia was surprised to suddenly hear this familiar yet unfamiliar name. She blinked and her gaze towards Xie Sheng froze for a moment.
This was the first time Pu Ming had been mentioned between them, and she didn't know how to respond. It was like a hole in a wall, usually well-covered, but that didn't mean he had disappeared. Suddenly removing the cover would leave one feeling bewildered, even jarring.
After a long pause, Pu Xia finally spoke, "Did you see him often before?"
"It used to be rare, but it's become more common in recent years."
Seeing Pu Xia's reaction, Xie Sheng felt a pang of regret; he shouldn't have mentioned that person's name.
"Yes, he does come here quite often, but he hasn't mentioned you to me. I thought he was just here to do business. He even said he would bring me here to live."
Pu Xia regained her composure, as if she were talking about a complete stranger, showing no emotion whatsoever.
Now she has indeed come over, just as he said, in a way that she "had to".
She could probably figure out what her conman father was thinking; Pu Ming was a person who loved only himself and no one else.
As she and Xie Sheng were part of him, he hoped they could be his continuation, get along well, and work together to help him succeed in his career.
He probably didn't expect that they would get along better than he anticipated. If he had survived the car accident, he would probably have been upset to find out that they were together.
Thinking of this, Pu Xia chuckled softly, then looked up to meet Xie Sheng's deep and concerned gaze. "At first I was really resistant, but now I'm quite happy because I met you."
Xie Sheng reached out, cupped the back of Pu Xia's head, and pulled her into his arms. He stroked her hair and gently patted her back to comfort her.
"I'm so happy to have met my brother."
Pu Xia said in his arms.
Xie Sheng remained silent, as if he had made up his mind, before finally asking, "Have you thought about the future?"
Pu Xia was slightly taken aback; she hadn't expected Xie Sheng to ask the question first.
This is a difficult question to ask and difficult to answer, both for ordinary couples and especially for them.
“…I haven’t thought about it in detail,” she said honestly, but then immediately added, “I only know that I want to be with you.”
Xie Sheng lowered his head and rubbed his nose against her forehead. "Then don't think about anything, just leave it to me."
Pu Xia was about to say something when he was interrupted, "Didn't we agree that I dragged you into this mess? Don't think about anything, just go with the flow. Okay, let's go check out your dorm."
Pu Xia felt a tingling sensation in her heart and leaned down to place a gentle kiss on Xie Sheng's lips.
...
The school dormitories are sparsely populated, and the entire dormitory area is not large—two five-story buildings, one for boys and one for girls, with an iron gate in the middle that doesn't really serve any practical purpose.
The girls' dormitory has about nine rooms on the first floor, mostly four-person rooms, and there are hardly any people on the third floor. Pu Xia's assigned dormitory is on the far right of the third floor, next to a fire escape staircase.
Xie Sheng laughed when he saw this, and said in a rather unserious manner, "This is quite convenient for me."
That reliable and serious demeanor from a moment ago didn't last long; now he's back to being lazy and irresponsible.
Pu Xia shrugged at his words, then pushed open the door and went into the dormitory.
This was originally a four-person room with bunk beds and desks underneath. There was a shared balcony where you could wash and dry clothes, and next to it was a private bathroom with signs indicating the two hot water supply times.
Although the equipment was outdated, the conditions were much better than Pu Xia had imagined.
Xie Sheng frowned upon seeing this, put his arm around Pu Xia from behind, and whispered, "Why don't you go home? Home is much more comfortable here. I'll stay in the dormitory."
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, it’s really fine,” Pu Xia said with a smile, taking Xie Sheng’s arm. Afraid that he would change his mind, she gently shook him and said in a coquettish tone, “It’s just that there are a lot of things to buy. Could you please take me to Liucheng to buy some?”
Xie Sheng had never been able to resist Pu Xia's demands. Although his brows were still furrowed, he put down her luggage and then drove to Liucheng.
The department stores in Liucheng were indeed much more complete than those in Baixian. After two monotonous months in Baixian, Pu Xia felt like he was "going to the city" for the first time in his life.
Seeing that the counter finally had some brands she was familiar with and often used, Pu Xia could no longer suppress her long-suppressed shopping desire. When she came to her senses, she realized that Xie Sheng's hands were already full.
But what surprised her most was that Xie Sheng, who had such poor patience, not only didn't give up and leave, but actually looked quite happy and even gave her some advice.
However, she didn't know that Xie Sheng, like all boys, wasn't particularly interested in shopping. He only felt that he could shop for several more hours because he saw Pu Xia looking so radiant while shopping.
-
After the two of them had swept through several floors, Pu Xia, without even breaking a sweat, looked around and her gaze fell on the game arcade not far away.
She used to be quite uninterested in this place; it was crowded and noisy, and she wouldn't really want to go in unless her friends dragged her there. But today she suddenly felt eager to try it out, probably because she was with Xie Sheng.
"Brother, let's go to the arcade and play for a while."
"Okay," Xie Sheng replied, looking into the girl's bright, lively eyes. He leaned down, pinched her chin, and planted a kiss on her pink lips, his tone lazy yet alluring. "But baby, you have to tell me first, are we on a date?"
