Chapter 50 Party

Chapter 50 Party

"I asked you to come back for the New Year, and you come back the day before New Year's Eve?" Yang Ning called Pu Xia to the study and said with dissatisfaction as soon as he sat down.

Pu Xia lowered her gaze, staring at the grain of the table without saying a word. She usually tried to remain as quiet and silent as possible when Yang Ning spoke.

In fact, Yang Ning didn't need any feedback from her; he just needed to obey her.

Yang Ning received a phone call midway through, then left her behind and got up to walk to the balcony.

Pu Xia breathed a sigh of relief as the invisible pressure dissipated. She stretched her stiff body and glanced to the side, where she saw a family photo on the cabinet behind Yang Ning's desk.

The Yang Ning inside is quite different from the Yang Ning in front of her; she is a gentle wife and mother.

In the past, Pu Xia would have felt a bit resentful and angry, but now she was able to remain calm and even wondered if she and Xie Sheng had any photos together that could be printed out and framed.

What if you enlarge it and hang it in the study?

Will it look like a wedding photo?

It feels a bit silly.

Pu Xia thought to himself, amused.

When Yang Ning returned to the room, she was no longer in the mood to educate her daughter. She said succinctly, "I heard from Cheng Ming that you want to stay over there?"

“Hmm.” This time, Pu Xia was no longer silent.

“No way,” Yang Ning refused decisively. “What future does that small place have? Besides, you don’t know anyone there. What’s the point of staying there? I contacted Professor Fang from the School of Economics and Management at the University of Finance and Economics. He will arrange for you to participate in the independent enrollment program next year when you are a senior in high school. You should go and participate.”

Pu Xia's expression froze.

I don't want to.

But when the words were actually on her lips, she couldn't say them under Yang Ning's unquestionable gaze.

-

The news of Pu Xia's return quickly spread throughout the circle.

On the evening of the first day of the Lunar New Year, someone organized a gathering and invited people. Pu Xia didn't want to stay at home anyway, and she was also feeling annoyed because of Yang Ning's words, so she agreed.

Little did she know that her agreement would prompt almost all her peers in the industry to come. But this wasn't because of any deep friendship; most were simply there to watch the spectacle.

Since we're all free during the Chinese New Year anyway, we might as well see what the once arrogant Pu Xia has become after this "transformation."

Of course, there were also some people who had just been brought in, and their curiosity was even stronger.

I had only heard of Pu Xia before.

Some people say she is arrogant;

Some say she's cold on the outside but warm on the inside;

Some say she keeps people at arm's length;

Some people even said she was manipulating people's hearts;

There are many people who dislike her, but there is also a long line of people who like her.

No one can resist the urge to be curious about someone like that.

The lively scene was filled with people chatting and playing games, but everyone was eagerly awaiting Pu Xia's arrival.

Meanwhile, Pu Xia was in a convenience store, taking a bottle of warm juice from the warmer and talking to Xie Sheng.

Xie Sheng across from her wasn't in a good mood, especially since all she knew was that Pu Xia was going to a party where her ex-boyfriend would be.

"Brother, don't be jealous. I promise I won't say a word to him later."

"Um."

"Then don't be upset," Pu Xia coaxed softly.

"I didn't." That's what she said, but the male voice on the other end completely fell silent.

Pu Xia couldn't help but chuckle, placed the juice on the checkout counter, pointed at the cigarettes, and continued to appease her jealous husband.

After the cashier settled the bill, she couldn't help but glance at the girl. Even with a mask on, her joy was evident. Her beautiful eyes sparkled with a gentle light, making it hard to look away.

Perhaps because she had been staring for too long, the girl gave her a warning look, and the cashier quickly looked away, lowered her head, and placed the items on the other side of the table.

Pu Xia then looked away, put the things into the large pocket of her black down jacket, and walked out of the convenience store before speaking again, "Brother, I missed you."

Xie Sheng gave a soft "hmm," and said, "After you left, I thought about you every single moment."

His warm breath seemed to travel through the microphone, and Pu Xia felt her blood boiling. The gloom she felt after returning home vanished, and she wished she could fly back immediately and hug him tightly.

Pu Xia reluctantly hung up the phone only after they arrived at their destination.

She paused at the door, lit a cigarette, composed herself, and then pushed open the door of the Western-style villa.

The soundproofing was broken, and loud, deafening music rushed in. Dark blue and rose-red lights flashed across the dim space, and crowds gathered in different corners were faintly visible under the lights.

It was a party she used to attend frequently.

Pu Xia quickly found the host of the party, who was also her "buddy" from junior high school, Tong Shuyao.

Why did you call so many people?

Pu Xia walked straight over and whispered in Tong Shuyao's ear, who was wearing a deep V-neck halter dress.

"Pu Xia!" The girl turned around in surprise when she heard her voice. "I'm so glad to see you! You heartless woman, you really cut off all contact just like that!"

As she spoke, she circled around Pu Xia twice, "Wow, you've changed so much. Let me see what's changed."

Yeah, you dyed your hair and are wearing that long down jacket you used to hate. How come you look even prettier, Bai Na? Did the feng shui of that rural place you went to improve your appearance?

Pu Xia looked at her speechlessly. She slapped her forehead and then remembered Pu Xia's question from earlier.

"Oh! I didn't invite this many people. They all came by themselves. I just didn't expect so many people to care about you. Don't look at me like that. If you have to blame someone, blame yourself. Who told you to just leave like that, not to come anywhere with us, and not to reply to our messages? Of course everyone's curious. Come on, come on, it's been a long time. Let's have a drink."

As she spoke, she hooked her arm around Pu Xia's and walked towards the dining table. Many people had already noticed Pu Xia when she came in, so they followed her.

“Pu Xia, it really is you! I didn’t believe them when they said you were back. You’ve changed so much.”

"It really is true. How should I put it, she's become even more beautiful."

"Hey! Get away! If you have a girlfriend, don't try to woo her here." Tong Shuyao put her arm around Pu Xia, separating them.

"Oh? So being single is fine?" someone teased from the side.

Pu Xia hadn't spoken until she heard this person's words. She looked up and said calmly, "No, I don't want to either. I have a boyfriend."

These words surprised those around them.

On the one hand, it's because Pu Xia never actively declares who he belongs to;

On the other hand, because she actually has a boyfriend.

"Wow, when did you start this conversation?!"

Tong Shuyao was the most surprised, but before Pu Xia could reply, a girl next to her burst out laughing.

"What's going on, Pu Xia? Are you playing some kind of rural romance story now?" A haughty voice came from not far away, getting closer and closer, until a girl with pigtails stood in front of Pu Xia, her chin held high. "I say, you're dressed so ugly, it seems you've adapted to local customs."

Her sarcastic remarks elicited a lot of laughter, and many people quieted down, waiting to see what would happen next.

"Who told you to come! Did I invite you?" Tong Shuyao raised her eyebrows and said to her irritably.

She was so annoyed by this woman. She was everywhere, always swaggering around. She didn't know what Wei Xiwen was thinking, dating such a loud and arrogant person.

“Of course it’s Brother Xiwen.” The girl said with a smug smile, her eyes fixed on Pu Xia.

Upon hearing the name, Pu Xia raised an eyebrow and looked in the direction behind the girl.

She saw a handsome young man with black hair and black clothes staring at her with deep eyes.
