Emperor Yong'an issued a secret decree to Luo Kuanlong, instructing him to collect evidence of the crimes committed by the people of Lingxi City and return to the palace immediately to hand it over to him, so that he could replace all the officials who were harming the people.
When Luo Kuanlong got home, he told Xia Wanwan that His Majesty had assigned him a mission and that he would be going on a long trip for a while.
“Wan Niang, I’m heading in the same direction Si Si went this time. If I’m lucky, I might catch up with her and come back with her!” Luo Kuanlong said.
"Alright, my husband, you must take good care of yourself while you are out. If you see Sisi come back, don't rush to claim her as your relative. It's better to let Sister Wu and the others talk to Sisi about this."
Xia Wanwan was afraid that her early recognition of kinship would displease the Wu family.
"Alright." Luo Kuanlong set off from the capital with some of the men sent by Emperor Yong'an.
The next day, inside the palace.
Having just finished the morning court session, Gu Lingyun stood there motionless.
And then he called out to Gu Lingchen, who was about to leave.
"Father, I have heard that there are some very beautiful red foxes that have been spotted near the hunting grounds recently."
"Your Majesty, I would like to invite my second and third brothers to go hunting tomorrow. If we can catch a red fox and make it into a fox fur coat for you, it would be a way for me to show my filial piety. I humbly request Your Majesty's permission."
Gu Lingyun looked at Emperor Yong'an and said.
Emperor Yong'an was slightly surprised when he saw that his foolish son had suddenly become filial.
This was the first time the eldest prince had asked him for something other than food, drink, and entertainment.
He then looked at Gu Lingchen.
"Second Prince, was this your brothers' idea?"
Gu Lingchen was surprised to see that Gu Lingyun had actually come up with a brain. He was afraid that Gu Lingyun didn't want to go and had even come up with this excuse, and even dragged his third brother along.
“Father, I think my elder brother’s suggestion is excellent. I am willing to go and hunt red foxes for you.”
“But my third brother is still young and has only recently learned riding and archery, so there might be danger. I suggest that my eldest brother and I go instead,” Gu Lingchen replied.
Gu Lingxuan did not attend the morning court session. Princes of Tianlong Kingdom must be at least twelve years old to attend the morning court session.
"Alright, I grant your permission. Xuan'er, you still need to practice for a while longer."
Emperor Yong'an wanted to see if Gu Lingyun had truly made progress.
"Thank you, Father Emperor," Gu Lingyun said, a cold smile playing on his lips as he lowered his head after hearing Emperor Yong'an's permission.
After the two took their leave, Gu Lingyun went to the Empress's palace.
Gu Lingchen ran into Gu Lingxuan on his way back to his palace.
"Second brother, you're finally back! I'm having some questions about this part of my studies. May I ask you for help?"
“Okay, let’s go back to the palace with Second Brother.” Gu Lingxuan had been closer to Gu Lingchen since childhood.
He could sense the disgust in Gu Lingyun's eyes, so he didn't dare to get close to Gu Lingyun.
Her mother, Consort Liu, was the daughter of a minor local official. She was of low status and only rose to the rank of consort because she gave birth to Gu Lingxuan.
Gu Lingyun looked down on him.
Gu Lingchen, however, would not do that. When he was sick and weak, he would often let Gu Lingxuan play in his palace.
In addition, Gu Lingxuan was influenced by Gu Lingchen's love of reading, and he also became very diligent in his studies and homework.
"Second brother, please take a look at this for me. I don't understand what this means. Please help me understand. Father will be coming to ask me about my studies soon."
The little guy's tone revealed his anxiety.
"Xuan'er, don't worry, your second brother will help you take a look right away."
Inside the Empress's palace.
Gu Lingyun dismissed all the palace maids except for Zhang Mama.
"Mother, Father has agreed to let us go hunting, but he hasn't informed Third Brother to go. Have you made the arrangements?"
"Gu Lingxuan is just a side trip, it doesn't matter if he doesn't go. The main thing is to take care of Gu Lingchen."
"It's all arranged. Just be alert and if you see any men in black, retreat immediately and push Gu Lingchen out."
"As for Consort Hui, I will have our people arrange to poison her at the same time. I want Consort Hui and her son to go to hell together, so they will have each other in the afterlife."
The Empress's eyes were filled with jealousy and malice; she no longer resembled the mother of the nation.
The next morning, Gu Lingyun sent someone to call Gu Lingchen very early.
Gu Lingchen, having donned his hunting attire, said calmly, "Big brother, you're really in a hurry to take my life!"
"Your Highness, our people are all in place and equipped with the new hidden weapons developed by our craftsmen."
"As soon as you give the signal, they will all be mobilized," Ah Sheng reported the arrangements they had made.
"Okay, let's go!" Gu Lingchen led his men away with Gu Lingyun's group.
We arrived at the hunting grounds.
"Second brother, come on! Let's have a competition today to see who hunts the most red foxes, and tell them not to follow us," Gu Lingyun said.
Although Gu Lingyun was a bit of a simpleton, he was still skilled in horseback riding and archery, which were skills they had to learn from the age of eight.
"My brother has the same idea, come on!"
Gu Lingchen agreed without any fear.
"Hmph, Mother said my second brother was clever, but it seems he's not much better than me. He can't even see that he's about to die," Gu Lingyun thought to himself.
After they finished speaking, the two rode off into the jungle.
All the people they brought stayed where they were and waited.
As soon as Gu Lingchen entered, he saw two rabbits. He swiftly shot an arrow and caught both rabbits in his hands.
Gu Lingyun scoffed at his actions.
"Second brother, what's the use of shooting this thing? What we're looking for today is the Red Fox."
Gu Lingchen ignored him because he could already hear footsteps slowly approaching them.
"Brother, don't speak, there's a noise," Gu Lingchen said, using his light-footed skill to fly onto Gu Lingyun's horse.
