Chapter 255 The grudges of previous generations should not be borne by him and Yun Zheng!
Fu Linghe's fingertips gently stroked Yun Zheng's back, as if soothing a frightened cat.
"Dreams are always the opposite," he whispered, his voice filled with undeniable determination, "I will never get lost, and I will never lose sight of you."
Yun Zheng's breathing gradually calmed down, but her fingers holding the corner of his clothes still did not loosen.
Fu Linghe adjusted his posture so that she could lean more comfortably in his arms.
He hummed a lullaby softly, and patted her back lightly with his hands from time to time, just like coaxing a child.
"Mr. Fu, you can't even hum a lullaby out of tune," Yun Zheng said sullenly, but the corners of her mouth were slightly raised.
"Disgusted." Fu Linghe deliberately put on a stern face and gently scratched her waist with his fingers. "Then I won't coax her anymore."
Yun Zheng couldn't help but laugh out loud, and shrank into his arms, "I don't mind~"
Although his humming was indeed a bit off-tune, this adaptation sounded just like the original, and coupled with Fu Linghe's voice, which was even better than the CV's, it was simply a masterpiece!
The moonlight shines through the gauze curtains, casting mottled shadows on the bed sheets.
Fu Linghe continued to hum a song, patting her back rhythmically with his palms.
He could feel Yun Zheng's breathing gradually becoming longer and her tense body slowly relaxing.
"Fu Linghe..." Just when he thought she had fallen asleep, Yun Zheng suddenly called softly.
"Um?"
"Don't abandon me like they did." Her voice was so soft that it was almost inaudible, as if she was afraid of disturbing the tranquility of the night.
Fu Linghe's heart seemed to be gripped by an invisible hand.
He bent down and kissed the top of her head. "I will never be like them because I can't bear to."
Outside the window, a nightingale sang twice on a branch, and then fell silent again.
Fu Linghe maintained this posture until he was sure Yun Zheng was completely asleep.
He carefully pulled out his numb arm and gently tucked the quilt for her.
The digital clock on the bedside table read 3:17 AM.
He has insomnia!
Fu Linghe tiptoed to the terrace and closed the window that was blown open by the wind.
His eyes fell on the lights of the city in the distance. The hotel where Mo Shian and his grandson were staying was somewhere in that sea of lights.
Fu Linghe gripped the railing tightly, his knuckles turning white.
The grudges of previous generations should not be borne by him and Yun Zheng.
——
Fu Linghe was already awake when the morning light streamed into the bedroom through the gaps in the curtains.
He turned sideways and looked at Yun Zheng who was still sleeping soundly. Her eyelashes cast a tiny shadow on her cheeks, and the corners of her mouth were slightly raised, as if she had a good dream.
The phone vibrated on the bedside table.
Fu Linghe quickly picked up the phone and looked at the caller ID. It was Assistant Qi.
He tiptoed out of the bedroom and closed the door before answering the phone.
"Mr. Fu, there's been some movement from Mo Shi'an. The grandparents got up early in the morning and went out, but we don't know where they're going..."
"I understand." Fu Linghe interrupted him. "Arrange someone to follow them from a distance, but don't alarm them. Also, I'll be at the office later today, so I'll postpone the morning meeting by two hours."
After hanging up the phone, Fu Linghe rubbed his temples.
When he turned around, he saw Yun Zheng standing at the bedroom door, looking at him sleepily.
"Did I wake you up?" Fu Linghe walked over and put his arm around her waist naturally.
Yun Zheng shook her head. "I've gotten enough sleep anyway."
She stood on tiptoe and kissed him on the chin. "Aren't you going to the company today?"
Fu Linghe looked at her slightly pale face, and her heart felt like it was suddenly grabbed by an invisible big hand. She hadn't left the bedroom for several days.
"Yes, but first I want to ask you," he held her face in his hands, "Do you want to go with me? You've been bored at home for several days."
Yun Zheng's eyes lit up for a moment, then dimmed again. "Will it disturb your work if I go?"
"How so?" Fu Linghe smiled. "You can read in my lounge, or ask my assistant to take you to the company's new cafe. I heard their tiramisu is excellent."
Yun Zheng bit her lower lip and thought for a few seconds before finally nodding. "Then I'll go change."
Looking at her brisk back, Fu Linghe breathed a sigh of relief.
He took out his cell phone and sent a message to his mother, "Mom, I'll bring Zheng Zheng home for dinner tonight."
Almost immediately, Shen Lanshu called.
"Ling He! That's great! I was just looking forward to meeting Zheng Zheng." Shen Lanshu's voice was filled with joy. "How is she doing lately?"
"Mom," Fu Linghe lowered his voice, "She's fine. We'll talk when we meet tonight."
After hanging up the phone, Fu Linghe turned around and saw Yun Zheng had changed into a cute Chanel-style suit and was putting on her shoes at the entrance.
The sunlight shone on her through the floor-to-ceiling windows, giving her a soft halo.
"I'm fine!" Yun Zheng stretched out her hand to him, and her smile was so bright that it made his heart tremble.
Fu Linghe took her hand and said, "Let's go, Mrs. Fu."
——
The glass curtain wall of the Fu Group headquarters building sparkles in the sun.
When the elevator reached the top floor, Yun Zheng subconsciously leaned towards Fu Linghe.
"You've been here so many times, and you're still nervous?" Fu Linghe squeezed her hand, his tone more doting.
Yun Zheng forced a smile and did not deny it.
The elevator door opened and Secretary Qi was already waiting there.
"Madam, long time no see." Secretary Qi greeted respectfully, then said to Fu Linghe, "Mr. Fu, Mo... I mean, the ten o'clock meeting is ready."
Fu Linghe frowned slightly and said, "Put it on hold for half an hour. Take Madam to the lounge first."
Yun Zheng was taken to a spacious and bright lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows offering a view of the entire city.
Secretary Qi prepared tea and some newly published magazines for her.
"Madam, please call me anytime if you need anything." Secretary Qi said and closed the door gently.
Yun Zheng walked to the window and looked down at the city below.
From this height, pedestrians look like ants and vehicles look like toys.
She suddenly felt dizzy and quickly took a few steps back and sat on the sofa.
Yun Zheng sat on the sofa and relaxed for a while. After she calmed down a little, she picked up a magazine.
But I don’t know what’s going on, but I can’t read a single word.
At noon, Fu Linghe pushed the door open, followed by a waiter pushing a food cart.
"Are you hungry?" He walked over and sat down next to her with a smile. "I asked them to make your favorite steamed sea bass."
Yun Zheng forced herself to smile, "Thank you."
While eating, Fu Linghe's cell phone rang again.
He glanced at the caller ID, frowning slightly. "I'll take a call."
Yun Zheng nodded and watched him walk to the other end of the lounge.
Although Fu Linghe deliberately lowered his voice, a few words still floated into her ears.
She was sure she heard the word "ink" and something like "don't get close to her!"
Mo Yunzheng's heart skipped a beat. Are they here?
When Fu Linghe came back, Yun Zheng had already packed up her lunch box and was standing in front of the bookshelf pretending to browse.
"I have a meeting this afternoon," Fu Linghe put his arm around her waist from behind, "and after that we'll go back to the old house. Mom said she prepared your favorite sweet and sour pork ribs."
Yun Zheng leaned in his arms, closed her eyes, and softly said, "Yeah."
Fu Linghe kissed the top of her head. "If you're bored, you can go to my office. There are a few novels in the drawer on the left side of my desk."
