Chapter 294 I didn’t do anything excessive to you, did I?
After all, the last man who asked her out to watch the meteor shower had already broken the appointment!
Cen Lian was thinking that he shouldn't reveal all this information, right?
Otherwise, why would he suddenly ask her to go watch the meteor shower?
There is no such coincidence in this world. If there is, it must be because I am too mean to say it!
The crisp sound of the spoon falling into the bowl was particularly harsh in the quiet restaurant.
Cen Lian hurriedly bent down to scoop it up, but because he moved too much, a few drops of porridge splashed onto Jiang Chenyu's cuffs.
"I'm sorry!" She hurriedly took out a tissue to help him wipe it, but her fingertips accidentally touched the back of his hand.
At that moment, she seemed to be struck by an electric current, and she quickly retracted her hand, her cheeks burning.
Jiang Chenyu took the tissue with a normal expression and slowly wiped his cuffs, "It's okay."
He looked up at her, his eyes calm as if nothing had happened. "You drank quite a bit last night. How do you feel now?"
Cen Li'an twisted his fingers together, not knowing what to say or how to say it for a moment!
Should he just ask, "Did I forcefully kiss you?" The mere thought of this possibility made her ears burn.
"It's alright..." Her voice was as thin as a mosquito's. "Just a little headache."
She raised her eyes cautiously, met Jiang Chenyu's deep gaze, and immediately lowered her eyelids, "Thank you for taking care of me last night."
Jiang Chenyu put down the tissue and tapped the table lightly with his slender fingers. "You're welcome. It's my pleasure."
He paused, as if choosing his words, "Do you...remember what happened last night?"
This question hit Cen Li'an like a small hammer.
It would be fine if she really didn't remember anything, but she had some impression of everything in her mind. It could be said that she was a big social death scene.
"I..." She bit her lower lip, "I remember we went to the restaurant and met Cheng Yuxiao and his fiancée, and then I drank too much..."
Her voice trailed off. "What happened next is a bit blurry. I don't even know how you brought me here."
Jiang Chenyu's expression changed subtly for a moment, so fast that it was almost impossible to catch.
"Yeah," he replied briefly, then stood up and walked to the kitchen. "Would you like some more porridge?"
Cen Lian stared at his back, his heart beating like a drum.
What was his reaction? Disappointment? Relief? Or... She didn't dare to think any further.
"No, thank you," she replied softly, her fingers unconsciously stroking the rim of the bowl.
Jiang Chenyu stood in front of the cooking table with his back to her, the lines of his shoulders looking particularly straight in the morning light.
He poured a glass of warm water, took out two hangover pills from the medicine box, walked back and placed them in front of her.
"You'll feel better after eating it." His voice was low and gentle.
Cen Lian took the pill and his fingertips accidentally brushed against his palm.
At that moment, she seemed to see his eyelashes tremble slightly.
She swallowed the pills quickly to hide her panic.
"Um..." She mustered up the courage to speak, "Did I...do anything inappropriate to you last night?"
Jiang Chenyu paused for a moment, then continued to clear the table as if nothing had happened.
"What do you mean?" His voice was suspiciously calm.
Cen Li'an felt her face burning. "Just...did he say anything strange, or..." She took a deep breath, "did he do anything excessive?"
The restaurant suddenly became eerily quiet. Jiang Chenyu stopped what he was doing and turned to face her.
The sunlight shone from behind him, giving him a golden edge, but making his expression hidden in the shadows and difficult to see clearly.
"You vomited all over me," he said finally, a barely perceptible hint of amusement in his voice. "Is that too much?"
Cen Li'an's eyes widened, "What?"
She exclaimed, with a hint of doubt in her eyes, "I really just..."
Jiang Chenyu walked closer to her, so close that she could smell the faint scent of cedar on him.
"I was just kidding." He said softly, the corners of his mouth slightly raised, "You just fell asleep and didn't make any noise. You were very good."
Cen Lian breathed a sigh of relief, but inexplicably felt a sense of loss.
Was that kiss just her illusion?
Or...he deliberately didn't mention it?
"Oh..." She lowered her head, staring at her fingers, and said muffledly, "That's good."
Jiang Chenyu looked at her drooping eyelashes and his Adam's apple rolled.
"But..." his voice was low, "you did say something."
Cen Li'an looked up suddenly, his heart almost jumping out of his chest, "What did I say?"
Jiang Chenyu's gaze was as deep as the sea, giving her the illusion of being seen through.
"You said..." He deliberately dragged out the tone, "The plum wine is delicious. I'll come back next time."
Cen Lian blinked and saw a flash of disappointment in his eyes, but she was not sure if she had seen it wrong.
"That's it?" she couldn't help but ask.
Jiang Chenyu turned and walked towards the living room. A voice came from behind him, "That's it."
He paused. "Go change your clothes. I'll take you home."
"Okay..." Cen Lian replied softly, got up and walked towards the bedroom.
After closing the bedroom door, Cen Lian leaned against it and took a deep breath.
The scent of Jiang Chenyu still lingered in the room, making her heart beat faster.
She walked over to the bed and found her clothes had been washed and dried and were neatly folded on the bedside table.
She picked up the clothes and suddenly noticed a piece of notepaper on the bedside. On it was Jiang Chenyu's neat handwriting, "The clothes have been washed, and there are new toiletries in the bathroom. - J"
This small act of thoughtfulness made her heart melt.
She gently stroked the line of handwriting, as if she could feel his warmth through the paper.
After changing clothes, Cen Lian stood in front of the mirror and fixed his hair.
The person in the mirror looked pale, with a faint blue tint under his eyes, and his lips were slightly dry due to a hangover.
She bit her lip in annoyance, thinking of the vague kiss last night.
If it really exists... shouldn't she apologize to him?
When she walked out of the bedroom, Jiang Chenyu had already packed up and was standing at the entrance waiting for her.
He was wearing a simple white shirt and black casual pants. He looked neat and tidy, but a little less distant than usual.
"Ready?" he asked, his voice gentle.
Cen Lian nodded, and suddenly noticed that there was a faint blue color under his eyes. "You...didn't sleep well last night?"
Jiang Chenyu paused for a moment, then picked up the car keys as if nothing had happened. "Not bad."
He answered briefly, avoiding her gaze.
As the elevator went down, both of them were silent.
In the small space, Cen Lian could clearly smell the faint scent of aftershave on Jiang Chenyu's body, mixed with a hint of the bitterness of coffee.
She secretly glanced at him out of the corner of her eye and found that his profile looked particularly three-dimensional in the cold light of the elevator, and his taut jawline seemed to be restraining something.
"About the meteor shower..." Jiang Chenyu suddenly spoke, his voice particularly clear in the quiet elevator. "What do you think?"
"Meteor shower?" Cen Lian's fingertips unconsciously grasped the corner of her clothes, and the fabric wrinkled into a ball in her palm.
Her voice was so soft that it was almost inaudible. "I~may not be able to go."
The air in the elevator suddenly froze.
Jiang Chenyu's expression didn't change at all, but Cen Lian saw his Adam's apple roll, as if he swallowed something back.
"It's okay," he said finally, his voice as calm as a deep pool of water. "Just a casual remark."
Cen Lian bit his lower lip, his eyes fixed on the decreasing numbers on the elevator.
She knew what she should explain, but the words stuck in her throat like a ball of water-soaked cotton.
The last man who asked her out to watch the meteor shower has broken the appointment!
She was not sure whether she had told Jiang Chenyu about this embarrassing past when she was drunk, causing him to misunderstand.
The elevator arrived at the first floor with a "ding" sound.
The moment the door opened, Cen Lian rushed out almost as if escaping, but tripped at the door.
Jiang Chenyu's hand held her elbow firmly, and the warmth came through the thin fabric, making her heart beat faster.
"Be careful," he said, and then quickly released his hand, as if the touch was merely polite.
The sunlight slanted in from the floor-to-ceiling windows in the lobby, stretching the shadows of the two people very long.
Cen Lian stared at the slender silhouette on the ground that was so close to his own shadow that he suddenly felt an indescribable sense of loss.
"Actually..." she began hesitantly, "It's not that I don't like meteor showers..."
Jiang Chenyu paused for a moment, but did not turn around. "Cen Lian,"
His voice was soft, but it gave her a sense of security. "You don't need to explain."
These words were like a needle, gently piercing her heart. She suddenly realized that he might have seen through all her defenses and fears.
The underground garage was a bit cold, and Cen Lian unconsciously hugged his arms.
Jiang Chenyu took off his suit jacket and handed it to her, his movements so natural that it seemed like he was already used to taking care of her. "Put it on. You're still hungover."
His body temperature and the faint scent of cedar remained on his clothes. Cen Lian buried his face in his collar and took a deep breath secretly.
Fragments of last night's memory suddenly flashed back to her. She hugged his neck and stood on tiptoe...
Did the kiss really happen, or was it just an alcohol-induced hallucination?
She was obviously very confident, but Jiang Chenyu kept acting as if nothing had happened, which made her doubt herself.
"What are you thinking about?" Jiang Chenyu opened the passenger door and his eyes fell on her red ears.
"Nothing!" Cen Lian hurriedly got into the car and almost hit the door frame.
Her hands were shaking slightly as she fastened her seat belt, and she finally buckled it in three times.
Jiang Chenyu sat in the driver's seat, but did not start the car immediately.
In the enclosed space, Cen Lian could clearly hear his own heartbeat.
She stole a glance at him and saw that he was looking straight ahead, his profile tense.
"Last night..." he suddenly said in a low voice, "You really don't remember?"
Cen Li'an twisted his fingers together, his knuckles turning white. "I... remember some fragments."
Her voice trembled. "Did I do something too extreme?"
Jiang Chenyu turned his head, his gaze so deep that she had nowhere to escape.
He approached slowly, and Cen Lian held his breath, his back pressed against the seat.
Just when she thought he was going to say something, he just reached out and straightened her crooked collar.
"You just said something drunk," he said finally, sitting up again. "Fasten your seatbelt."
The car drove out of the garage, and the sunlight was so bright that Cen Lian squinted his eyes.
