Chapter 306 I'm willing to try with you

Chapter 306 I'm Willing to Try It with You

The sunlight shines through the gaps in the gauze curtains, casting tiny spots of light on the solid wood floor.

Cen Lian'an's fingers were tightly gripping the cuffs of Jiang Chenyu's shirt, and his fingertips were slightly white due to the force.

She could smell the faint scent of cedar on him, which was strangely soothing.

"What do you mean... literally?" She heard her voice tremble.

Jiang Chenyu lowered his eyes, and his long eyelashes cast a shadow under his eyes.

He gently held her wrist, his thumb unconsciously stroking her slender wrist bone.

"Cen Lian," he took a deep breath, his voice low and firm, "I like you. I don't know when it started, but I can be sure that I like you."

The mountain breeze outside the window suddenly stopped, and the room was so quiet that we could hear each other's breathing.

Cen Lian felt his heart beating unusually fast, and his eardrums were buzzing.

"You don't have to answer me so quickly." Jiang Chenyu let go of her hand and took a step back. "I just... want a chance."

His voice became softer and softer, and the last few words almost disappeared into the air.

The sunlight shone on his profile, outlining the perfect jawline. Cen Lian suddenly noticed the faint dark circles under his eyes - he had been with her all night last night.

"I'm willing to try." she blurted out.

Jiang Chenyu raised his head suddenly, his pupils slightly dilated: "What?"

"I said, I'm willing to give it a try with you." Cen Lian mustered up the courage to look him in the eye, his cheeks flushed, "But you have to promise me one thing."

"What's the matter?" Jiang Chenyu's voice was a little tense.

"Accompany me to today's engagement party."

The air froze instantly. Jiang Chenyu's expression visibly darkened. He turned and walked towards the window, his back stiff. "You still can't let him go."

"No!" Cen Li'an was so anxious that she stomped her bare feet on the floor. The sharp pain from her ankle made her stumble. Jiang Chenyu immediately turned around and supported her, his brow furrowed.

"Watch your feet."

Cen Li'an took the opportunity to grab his arm: "Listen to my explanation. Cheng Yuxiao and I ended our relationship a long time ago, but our two families are old friends. If I don't go, it will be difficult to explain to my parents." She bit her lower lip, "And... I want him to see that I am living well without him."

Jiang Chenyu's eyes darkened. "Are you sure you won't regret meeting him?" His voice trembled slightly. "What if you..."

"No." Cen Lian interrupted him, gently caressing his cheek with his fingertips, "Jiang Chenyu, do I look stupid?"

The sunlight formed a soft halo behind her. Jiang Chenyu looked into her determined eyes, and his tense shoulders finally relaxed. He held her hand and placed a light kiss on it. "Okay, I'll go with you."

"But," he suddenly became serious, "your foot injury hasn't healed yet, so you have to wear flat shoes."

Cen Li'an chuckled: "Doctor Jiang, is this abusing your power for personal gain?"

"This is the doctor's order." Jiang Chenyu said seriously, but the smile in his eyes betrayed him. He bent down and picked her up sideways, startling Cen Lian'an so much that she let out a soft cry.

"What are you doing!"

"The patient shouldn't move around." Jiang Chenyu carried her to the bathroom, his lips curled up slightly, "Do you need me to help you take a bath?"

Cen Li'an's face instantly turned red like a ripe apple: "Jiang Chenyu!"

Seeing her angry expression, Jiang Chenyu chuckled and gently placed her at the bathroom door: "I was just kidding. I'm going to prepare breakfast. Call me if you need anything."

After the bathroom door closed, Jiang Chenyu stood there, a smile gradually widening. He raised his hand and touched his lips, which seemed to still feel the warmth of her fingertips. Outside the window, the mountain mist had completely dissipated, and the sunlight poured in without reservation, illuminating the entire room.

Two hours later, in the parking lot of the hot spring resort.

Jiang Chenyu put his luggage in the trunk and turned to see Cen Li'an cautiously descending the stairs. She was wearing the lake-blue dress he had prepared, and the hem swayed gently with her movements, like a flowing lake. To accommodate her injured foot, he had specially selected a pair of ballet flats. Her slender ankles shone brightly in the sunlight.

"Slow down." He quickly stepped forward and supported her.

Cen Lian looked up and smiled at him: "I'm fine." Her makeup was very light, with only a few pearlescent glitters at the corners of her eyes, but it made her whole body shine.

Jiang Chenyu suddenly regretted agreeing to go to her engagement party. She was too dazzling like this, and he didn't want anyone to see her.

"What's wrong?" Cen Lian noticed that he was distracted.

"Nothing." Jiang Chenyu opened the passenger door. "I was just wondering what expression Cheng Yuxiao would have when he saw you."

Cen Li'an paused while fastening her seatbelt, then smiled and said, "You'll probably regret it." She turned to look at Jiang Chenyu with clear eyes, "But that has nothing to do with me now."

The car slowly drove out of the villa, the winding mountain road flanked by lush greenery. Cen Li'an rolled down the window, letting the mountain breeze caress her face. Her long hair danced in the wind, a few strands playfully clinging to Jiang Chenyu's sleeves.

"By the way," she suddenly remembered something, "when did you prepare the skirt?"

Jiang Chenyu's ears turned slightly red: "Last week."

"Last week?" Cen Lian'an's eyes widened in surprise. "At that time, we hadn't..."

"I know." Jiang Chenyu looked intently at the road ahead, his voice gentle, "But I've always hoped to see you wear it one day."

Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled shadows inside the car. Cen Li-an looked at his profile as he focused on driving, and suddenly felt a warmth in her chest. She quietly reached out and placed her hand on the back of his.

Jiang Chenyu held her fingers with his backhand and interlocked their fingers.

"Jiang Chenyu," Cen Lian said softly, "thank you."

"Thank me for what?"

"Thank you... for always being there for me."

The car drove onto the highway, and the sunlight poured in without reservation. Jiang Chenyu held her hand tightly, and the corners of his mouth rose slightly: "I will be there in the future."

Cen Li'an leaned back in his chair, watching the scenery rapidly receding outside the window. The memories of Cheng Yuxiao seemed to be left far behind along with the mountain wind.

Two hours later, the car stopped in front of the Cheng family villa. Jiang Chenyu walked around to the passenger seat and carefully helped Cen Li'an out. Her ankle was still a little swollen, but much better than yesterday.

"Nervous?" he whispered.

Cen Li'an shook his head and took his arm: "With you here, I'm not nervous."

Jiang Chenyu lowered his head and placed a light kiss on the top of her head: "Remember, if you feel uncomfortable, tell me at any time and we will leave immediately."

"I know, Doctor Jiang." Cen Lian smiled and squeezed his arm. "Let's go and show some people that I, Cen Lian, can live well without him."
