Chapter 323 She Guarded Him Alone
Mo Shian looked at Yun Zheng's stubborn profile, but he was finally defeated.
He leaned slightly to the side, pulled out his phone, and made a call. He whispered a few words, then turned to look at Yun Zheng and said, "Follow me."
He took Yun Zheng through the corridor and came to an SVIP ward next to the ICU.
When she pushed open the door, several medical staff were changing the bedding. It was not the pure white commonly seen in hospitals, but the light blue linen four-piece set that Yun Zheng liked.
The entire 150-square-meter suite has been redecorated, with fresh white jasmine on the coffee table and even a massage chair in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.
"This..." Yun Zheng stood there in a daze, looking at the room in front of her.
Mo Shian took the food box handed to him by the assistant and signaled everyone else to leave.
He opened the food box and a rich aroma immediately filled the air. There was seafood porridge and chicken soup, and the dishes were relatively light.
"Sit down and eat." He pulled out a chair, his tone unwavering. "Rest here afterward. It's only twenty steps from the ICU, and no one will stop you from seeing him."
Yun Zheng slowly walked to the dining table and mechanically picked up the spoon.
She looked at the table full of exquisite dishes, but she actually had no appetite at all.
But she knew that even if it was not for herself, she must not fall down for Fu Linghe.
The hot porridge slid down her throat, but Yun Zheng couldn't taste anything.
Mo Shian sat opposite her, watching her put the porridge into her mouth in small mouthfuls.
When Yun Zheng had almost finished eating, he handed her a cup of warm milk and said, "Drink it all."
Yun Zheng held the cup, her fingers unconsciously stroking the glass wall, a little absent-minded.
Although Mo Shi'an didn't say anything, he saw it all.
He pulled out his tablet and pulled up a medical report. "Professor Smith just sent the latest assessment. The cerebral edema is beginning to subside. He will definitely wake up by noon the day after tomorrow at the latest."
Yun Zheng's fingers clenched the cup tightly, her knuckles turning white.
She looked up suddenly. "Can you show me?"
Mo Shian raised his eyebrows and handed the tablet to her.
Yun Zheng immediately put down the cup in her hand, took the tablet and looked at the data carefully.
Mo Shian didn't disturb her and just stayed quietly by the side.
After a long while, he finally said, "Go get some sleep!"
Yun Zheng almost subconsciously shook her head in refusal, then heard the man's voice again, "I've had real-time monitoring installed in the ICU. I'll notify you immediately of any changes."
Yun Zheng shook her head and forced herself to walk to the floor-to-ceiling window.
From this angle, you can just see the entrance to the ICU.
It was late at night, and the light from the corridor stretched her shadow very long.
Mo Shian sighed and took out an exquisite box. "This is for you."
Yun Zheng opened the box and found a modified smart watch inside.
The dial now displays Fu Linghe's real-time vital signs, including heart rate, blood oxygen, and blood pressure.
"It's directly connected to the ICU monitor." Mo Shi'an helped her put it on. "It automatically updates the data every five minutes."
Yun Zheng finally revealed a genuine smile, "Thank you."
Yun Zheng looked down at the smartwatch on her wrist. The numbers jumping on the dial showed Fu Linghe's vital signs.
Heart rate 72, blood oxygen 98%, blood pressure 110/70, these cold and steady numbers became her only comfort at this moment.
"Mr. Mo..., please go back and rest first." Yun Zheng raised her head, her voice soft but firm, "I can do it alone."
Mo Shian stood in front of her, his suit jacket already taken off and draped over his arm, his shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing his sturdy forearms.
He frowned slightly and his gaze lingered on Yun Zheng's pale face for a few seconds.
"Are you sure?" His voice was low, his concern undeniable. "I can stay with you."
Yun Zheng shook her head, forcing a smile. "No need. You've already helped me a lot. Besides..."
Her gaze involuntarily drifted towards the ICU. "I want to be alone for a while, too."
Mo Shian stared at her for a moment, then finally sighed, took out his phone, pulled out the QR code, and handed it to her. "Okay, add me on WeChat first, and call me immediately if anything happens."
He then pulled a business card from his pocket and placed it on the coffee table. "This is Professor Smith's personal number. If there's an emergency, you can contact him directly. He and all the experts are on call 24 hours a day."
"Thank you." Yun Zheng said softly, but her eyes had returned to her watch.
Mo Shi'an wanted to say something but stopped himself. In the end, he just sighed helplessly and turned to leave the ward.
The sound of the door closing was particularly clear in the empty suite.
Yun Zheng stood there for a while, and after confirming that Mo Shian had really left, she immediately walked quickly towards the door.
Her steps were a little unsteady. Three days of hardly sleeping had pushed her body to its limit, but the anxiety in her heart was like a powerful stimulant, supporting her from falling down.
The automatic door of the ICU was just within reach. Yun Zheng put her hand on the cold door handle and took a deep breath.
Through the small window on the door, she could see the busy medical staff and neatly arranged beds inside.
The innermost bed, half covered by a curtain, was where Fu Linghe was.
A young nurse recognized her and came over to gently remind her, "Ms. Yun, it's not visiting hours now."
"I know..." Yun Zheng's voice was almost squeezed out of her throat, "I'll just stand here and watch, not go in."
The nurse hesitated for a moment, then looked at Yun Zheng's red, swollen eyes and haggard face. Finally, she nodded and said, "You can only watch for five minutes."
Yun Zheng nodded gratefully, her face almost touching the glass.
From this angle, she could only see Fu Linghe's arms exposed outside the quilt and the various tubes connected to them.
There were still scrapes on his arms from the plane, which stood out against his pale skin.
The heart rate monitor on her hand suddenly lit up.
"What's wrong? Is there a problem?" Yun Zheng knocked on the glass anxiously.
The nurse came out and soothed her, "It's okay. It's just a normal reaction to the medication. Miss Yun, you really need to rest."
Yun Zheng bit her lower lip and nodded. Finally, she took a deep look in the direction of the bed before turning around and leaving reluctantly.
Back in the SVIP ward, she mechanically walked into the bathroom and looked at the unfamiliar self in the mirror. Her eyes were red and swollen, her face was pale, and her hair was messily tied into a loose ponytail.
Hot water gushed out from the shower head. Yun Zheng stood under the water, letting the warm water wash over her tired body.
Tears mixed with the water as she fell, and she allowed herself to break down for a moment in this private space.
After taking a shower, Yun Zheng changed into the pajamas prepared by Mo Shian.
It fit her surprisingly well, being made of the light blue cotton material she loved.
She walked out of the bathroom, drying her hair, her eyes falling on the lunch box on the coffee table.
Although she still had no appetite, she remembered Mo Shian's words - "For Fu Linghe's sake, I must not fall down."
I forced myself to eat a few mouthfuls of the remaining seafood porridge.
Yun Zheng walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and looked at the colorful night scene outside.
She curled up on the single sofa by the window, staring at the entrance to the ICU.
The smartwatch on her wrist vibrated slightly every five minutes, reminding her that Fu Linghe's vital signs were still stable.
Yun Zheng picked up the phone placed aside, unlocked it, clicked on WeChat and hesitated for a long time. In the end, she just quietly exited the interface and called her mother-in-law Shen Lanshu.
Shen Lanshu on the other end of the phone answered almost immediately.
"Zheng Zheng." Shen Lanshu's voice came from the receiver, gentle but with a hint of tension, "How is Ling He?"
Yun Zheng's nails unconsciously scratched at the thread of her pajamas' hem. Her throat throbbed a few times before she uttered a word. "The doctor said... the swelling in my brain is starting to subside. I'll be awake the day after tomorrow at the latest."
She paused, then quickly added, "Don't worry, Mom. We have the best medical team here."
Although Yun Zheng tried her best to hide her emotions, Shen Lanshu could hear it immediately.
"Zheng Zheng, I'm relieved to have you at Ling He's place." Shen Lanshu's tone was gentle and reassuring. "I'm worried about you now. You must take good care of yourself there."
Yun Zheng's fingertips trembled slightly, and she held the phone tighter.
"Mom, I know." She tried to keep her voice calm. "I eat well and sleep well. I won't fall down before he wakes up."
Shen Lanshu sighed softly from the other end of the phone, "Silly child, doesn't Mom know you yet? You've always been stubborn. Remember to turn up the air conditioner when you go to bed at night, so you don't catch a cold."
Yun Zheng's fingertips stroked the condensed water mist on the window glass and she said "hmm" softly.
It was a dark night. After Yun Zheng hung up the phone, she sat in front of the floor-to-ceiling window for a long time.
The rain outside the window started to fall again at some point, and the raindrops hit the glass, making a tiny sound.
She stared at the blue light at the door of the ICU, which was on 24 hours a day, and her eyelids became heavier and heavier.
The smartwatch on her wrist suddenly vibrated, and Yun Zheng woke up with a start.
The dial showed that Fu Linghe's heart rate suddenly rose to 89. She stood up immediately, but saw the number slowly fall back in the next second.
This slight fluctuation was completely normal medically, but it made her heart ache.
She is now in a state of paranoia. As long as it is related to Fu Linghe, no matter whether it is big or small, she gets very nervous and cannot control herself at all.
She dragged her tired body towards the big bed, the light blue bedding exuding a sun-kissed scent.
Yun Zheng hesitated for a moment, but finally lay down. The mattress was unexpectedly soft and could absorb all her fatigue.
She curled up on her side, her eyes still fixed on her watch.
The sound of rain outside the window gradually turned into hypnotic white noise. Yun Zheng's eyelids became heavier and her consciousness began to blur.
