Chapter 344 What’s on Madam’s mind?
Since Fu Linghe couldn't go anywhere now, the couple went to bed after dinner.
Yun Zheng turned the lights in the ward to the dimmest, leaving only a small night light at the bedside emitting a soft glow.
She leaned in Fu Linghe's arms, closed her eyes, but couldn't fall asleep.
The woman's eyes from the daytime kept lingering in her mind.
Those amber pupils are exactly the same as hers.
"Madam, are you asleep?" Fu Linghe's voice sounded in the darkness, with a bit of childish mischief.
Yun Zheng said "hmm" softly without opening her eyes.
"I can't sleep," Fu Linghe tangled his fingers in her hair, "How about we take advantage of the dark night and do something bad in secret?"
Yun Zheng finally opened her eyes and met his cunning gaze. "Get some rest. Don't let your underage brain be filled with so many useless things."
Fu Linghe propped himself up on the bed with one hand, reached out and gently tapped Yun Zheng's head, scolding her with a smile, "What's on your mind, Madam? I just wanted to go out and see the night view and have some barbecue."
He deliberately lowered his voice, "Or... Mrs. Fu is thinking of something unhealthy? I don't mind too much..."
Yun Zheng's ears felt hot, and she reached out to pinch his waist, "Fu Linghe!"
"Hiss——" Fu Linghe took a breath, but it was not because of pain.
He suddenly grabbed Yun Zheng's wrist, his voice suddenly becoming dangerous, "Don't touch me!"
Yun Zheng then realized what her hand had touched. She hurriedly retracted her hand, and her whole body was burning.
In the darkness, she could feel Fu Linghe's hot breath on her neck.
"I...I didn't mean to do that." She stammered.
Fu Linghe chuckled softly, then suddenly turned over and pressed her under him, carefully avoiding his own wounds. "It doesn't matter if you did it on purpose."
His lips brushed her earlobe. "Anyway, I've been yours for a long time, and this place will be yours sooner or later."
Yun Zheng's heart was beating like a drum, and her fingers unconsciously gripped the bed sheets.
Just as the atmosphere became increasingly ambiguous, Fu Linghe suddenly propped himself up and distanced himself.
"Forget it," his voice was a little hoarse, "I'll let you go today."
The man reached out and ruffled Yun Zheng's hair. "But, put what you owe me on the bill."
Yun Zheng breathed a sigh of relief, but inexplicably felt a sense of loss.
She turned sideways, her back to Fu Linghe, and whispered, "Go to sleep. You have to have a checkup tomorrow."
Fu Linghe hugged Yun Zheng from behind, and gently clasped his strong arms, holding her in his arms.
He placed the tip of his nose against her slender neck, breathing in her light jasmine scent, mixed with a hint of hospital disinfectant.
Yun Zheng could feel his warm breath brushing against her sensitive skin, causing a slight shudder.
Fu Linghe didn't say anything, just held her quietly.
"What's wrong?" Yun Zheng asked softly, her fingers unconsciously stroking his arms around her waist.
Fu Linghe shook his head, and his hair brushed against her shoulder blades, bringing a tingling sensation.
His lips brushed the back of her neck lightly, like an unfinished kiss.
"I just want to hold you like this." His voice was muffled, with a rare hint of fragility. "Never let go."
Yun Zheng's heart softened and she turned around to face him.
Under the dim night light, Fu Linghe's outline appeared particularly deep, and his eyes, which were always full of confidence, now revealed a hint of uneasiness.
Yun Zheng raised her hand to caress his cheek, her thumb gently rubbing the faint dark circles under his eyes. "You haven't been getting enough rest lately."
Fu Linghe grabbed her hand and pressed her palm against his chest. "How can I sleep when this place is full of you?"
Yun Zheng's ears burned with his sudden love talk, but she still pretended to be calm, "You're so smooth-talking."
"Only for you." Fu Linghe chuckled, lowered his head and nuzzled her nose. As their breaths blended, his voice deepened. "Zhengzheng, promise me, no matter what happens, don't leave me."
Yun Zheng was slightly startled, vaguely sensing that there was something else behind his words.
But before she could think about it, Fu Linghe's lips had already covered hers.
This kiss was different from the usual overbearing ones. It was gentle and almost pious, as if confirming her existence.
When she almost melted in this kiss, Fu Linghe suddenly pulled away, resting his forehead against hers, "Go to sleep, I have a checkup tomorrow."
Yun Zheng nodded and nestled back into his arms. Fu Linghe's hand gently stroked her back from time to time, as if he was coaxing a child to sleep.
In this steady rhythm, Yun Zheng's eyelids gradually became heavy.
Half asleep, she seemed to hear Fu Linghe whispering in her ear, "Even if you are the daughter of the Mo family, I will not let you go... We are the only ones registered in the household registration."
These words were like a drop of water falling into a calm lake, causing ripples in her chaotic thoughts, but were quickly drowned by sleepiness.
——
The next morning.
The sunlight poured into the ward through the gauze curtains, and Yun Zheng was awakened by a slight noise.
She opened her sleepy eyes and saw Fu Linghe standing beside the bed.
"What are you doing!" Yun Zheng woke up instantly, threw off the quilt and jumped out of bed. "The doctor said it's best to stay in bed and not walk around."
Before he finished speaking, Fu Linghe had already taken two steady steps forward, turned around and gave her a smug smile, "Don't listen to those doctors' nonsense, look at me, I'm fine, aren't I?"
In the morning light, his tall figure stood straight as a pine tree, and the open collar of his hospital gown revealed a scabbed wound on his collarbone.
Although his face was still a little pale, his deep eyes had regained their former sharpness.
Yun Zheng stood there in a daze, her eyes suddenly feeling hot.
Although he smiled every day during this period, Yun Zheng knew how much pain he endured every day.
"Why are you crying?" Fu Linghe frowned, walked quickly to her, and gently wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes with his fingertips, "I'm fine now, aren't I?"
"Who's crying?" Yun Zheng slapped his hand away, but couldn't control the sob in her voice. "I'm angry that you didn't listen to the doctor's advice!"
Fu Linghe chuckled softly, then suddenly bent down and picked her up sideways.
Yun Zheng screamed and subconsciously hugged his neck, "Fu Linghe! Are you crazy? Put me down!"
"No." He spun her around in his arms, his muscles clearly visible beneath his hospital gown. "I've been lying down for so long, I need to stretch my legs."
Yun Zheng felt dizzy from his spinning, but couldn't help but notice the bulging muscles on his arms.
How does this person look like a patient?
If Yun Zheng hadn't seen him lifeless in the ICU with her own eyes, she would have thought he was faking illness.
"You...you couldn't have recovered a long time ago, right?" she asked with narrowed eyes.
Fu Linghe gently placed her on the bed, supported her body with his hands on both sides, and leaned closer. "You're almost well."
His breath brushed against her lips. "It's just that heartless little guy who treats me like a porcelain doll every day and won't even let me touch him. It's really hard to hold it in."
Yun Zheng's face flushed red, and she reached out to push him away, "You...you lied to me!"
"What did I lie to you about?" Fu Linghe said innocently, "The doctor did say I needed to rest."
He suddenly lowered his voice, his lips almost touching her earlobe, "But now... I think we can try some 'vigorous exercise'."
"Fu Linghe!" Yun Zheng's cheeks flushed with anger, and her amber eyes widened like a kitten with its fur standing on end.
She bit her lower lip and clenched her fists tightly, wishing she could punch the nasty man in front of her.
But when she met his smiling peach blossom eyes, she couldn't bring herself to do it and could only turn her face away angrily.
"Okay, I won't tease you anymore." Seeing her like this, Fu Linghe finally put away his joking expression.
He reached out and tucked her scattered hair behind her ear, his voice suddenly becoming gentle and serious, "Zheng Zheng, I want to go back to the capital."
Yun Zheng was startled and turned around. "Return to the capital? Now?"
"Yes." Fu Linghe's fingers gently traced her eyebrows and eyes. "The doctor said my condition has stabilized and subsequent treatment can be done in Beijing."
He paused, his eyes darkening slightly. "Besides... I just don't feel comfortable here."
Fu Linghe always felt that the people of the Mo family were not good people.
His wife doesn't want to acknowledge them, but they have no self-awareness at all and treat his wife like the apple of their eye.
He is just very unhappy!
He felt more at ease only when he returned to his own territory.
Yun Zheng frowned slightly and reached out to touch Fu Linghe's forehead. "Are you talking nonsense because of a fever?"
Fu Linghe grabbed her wrist, gently pulled her into his arms, and said, "I'm very sober."
His chin rested on the top of her head, and he said in a low voice, "Zheng Zheng, I don't want to stay here anymore. I want to go home."
Yun Zheng could feel his chest vibrating slightly, and his heartbeat came through the thin hospital gown, steady and powerful.
She hesitated for a moment and said softly, "I'll go ask Dr. Smith later. If he says it's okay, we'll go back to the capital."
Fu Linghe's lips curled slightly, and his fingers twirled around the ends of her hair. "Mrs. Fu, are you worried about me?"
"Yes!" Yun Zheng admitted straightforwardly, "You are my husband. If I am not worried about you, who can I worry about? Or does Mr. Fu want me to worry about another man?"
"If you dare to worry about another man, I will kill that man! And then I will keep you by my side."
Yun Zheng had a smile on her lips and turned to get her coat.
Fu Linghe's gaze followed her back, and the smile in his eyes gradually faded, replaced by a deep gloom.
He must take Yun Zheng away from here as soon as possible.
