Chapter 355 Ning Zhi goes to the ICU, Yun Zheng is guarding her!
The doctor came quickly.
Mo Chenfeng had long anticipated that Ning Zhi's emotions would get out of control, so he asked the doctor to prepare at the airport in advance.
Yun Zheng's fingertips still felt the cold touch of Ning Zhi's wrist. She mechanically followed the medical staff into the ambulance, not even noticing that her knee was bruised.
Fu Linghe followed closely behind, his silver hair shining coldly under the glaring ambulance lights.
He grabbed Yun Zheng's trembling wrist and whispered, "I'll follow you in the car."
Yun Zheng nodded blankly, her eyes never leaving Ning Zhi on the stretcher.
Under the oxygen mask, the face that looked 70% like hers was so pale that it was almost transparent.
The fear in her heart spread throughout her body. She was afraid that she would continue sleeping like this and never wake up.
Mo Chenfeng also got into the ambulance, while Mo Shian had already sent Old Man Mo back to the old house.
The ambulance's siren pierced the noise of the airport. Yun Zheng sat in the narrow compartment with her hands clenched into fists.
Ning Zhi was lying on a stretcher, and the face that looked like hers under the oxygen mask was as pale as paper.
Medical staff were busy connecting various instruments, and cold electronic sounds echoed in the carriage.
"Blood pressure 80/50, heart rate 45, and still dropping!"
Yun Zheng's nails dug deep into her palms, but she didn't feel any pain.
She stared at Ning Zhi's wrist exposed outside the blanket, which was covered with several light pink scars, as if it had been scratched by something sharp.
"What's with the scar on her wrist?" Her voice caught in her throat.
Yun Zheng had wanted to ask this question for a long time.
Mo Chenfeng followed her gaze and his expression darkened.
"She started acting like this five years ago when she found out Xinrou wasn't her biological daughter."
His voice was low, but it pierced Yun Zheng's heart like a knife. "The doctor said this is self-harm caused by depression."
Yun Zheng suddenly looked up, her eyes full of disbelief.
"She always felt that it was her fault that she lost you in the hospital, so she has been living in guilt." Mo Chenfeng calmly stated the facts to Yun Zheng.
"She has been emotionally unstable over the years and has spent a lot of time in the hospital."
Mo Chenfeng's eyes never left Ning Zhi, and the heartache in his eyes was hard to conceal. "Her condition improved not long ago, so I brought her home."
"Mom..." The word once again flowed out of Yun Zheng's lips uncontrollably, with a trembling that she herself didn't even notice.
The ambulance made a sharp turn and Yun Zheng lost her balance and fell forward.
Mo Chenfeng supported her in time, but saw the same fear in her eyes as his own.
"She will be fine." Mo Chenfeng said to Yun Zheng, but it seemed more like he was convincing himself.
The ambulance quickly arrived at the Mo family's private hospital. The incandescent lights in the hospital hurt Yun Zheng's eyes.
She stood outside the emergency room and looked at the busy figures inside through the glass window.
Ning Zhi was surrounded by various instruments, and the doctor was performing cardiac compressions on her chest, trying to rescue her intensively.
Yun Zheng's legs went weak as she looked at the scene in the emergency room, and she fell uncontrollably to the ground.
A pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist in time. Fu Linghe had arrived at some point. His silver hair was a little messy, obviously he had run all the way here.
"I'm here," he whispered in her ear, his voice steady as a rock. "Don't be afraid."
Yun Zheng tightly grasped the corner of Fu Linghe's clothes and buried her face helplessly in his arms.
Fu Linghe's arms were tightly around her shoulders, holding her in his arms.
He could feel Yun Zheng's body shaking violently, and her tears soaked through the fabric of his clothes on his chest.
"She'll be fine." Fu Linghe whispered comfortingly, his palm gently stroking her back, as if soothing a frightened little animal.
In the emergency room, the doctor was still nervously performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The lines on the electrocardiogram were faintly fluctuating, as if they would return to a straight line at any time.
Mo Chenfeng stood aside, his fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
His eyes were fixed on the movements in the emergency room. His throat rolled and his voice became hoarse. "She has been waiting for you to come back all these years..."
Yun Zheng raised her head, her eyes were red and tears were streaming down her cheeks.
She opened her mouth, but no sound came out. She could only hold on to the corner of Fu Linghe's clothes tightly, as if she was grabbing the only piece of driftwood.
Yun Zheng slowly squatted down, hugged her knees, and tears fell to the ground.
Mo Chenfeng walked over to her side, squatted silently, and handed her a handkerchief. "She will be fine."
Yun Zheng took the handkerchief, her fingertips trembling. "How has she been living these years?"
Mo Chenfeng closed his eyes and said in a low voice, "Ever since she found out that you were deliberately switched in the hospital, she's been mentally broken. She's always felt that she failed to protect you, so..."
He paused, his gaze fixed on the direction of the emergency room. "She once attempted suicide, and after she was rescued, she was left with those scars on her wrists."
Yun Zheng's heart ached violently, as if pierced by a sharp knife.
She covered her mouth to stifle her cries, her shoulders shaking violently.
"Later, she began desperately looking for you. Even when everyone said there was little hope, she refused to give up."
Mo Chenfeng's voice was soft, but every word was heavy. "She would prepare a birthday present for you every year and put it in the room she carefully prepared for you..."
Yun Zheng couldn't hold back any longer, and tears burst out like a dam breaking.
At this moment, the door of the emergency room opened again, and the doctor came out, taking off his mask. "The patient is out of danger for the time being, but needs to be transferred to the ICU for observation."
Yun Zheng stood up suddenly, but her legs went weak and she almost fell again.
Mo Chenfeng supported her and whispered, "Go see her."
Yun Zheng staggered into the ward and saw Ning Zhi lying quietly on the bed, her face as pale as paper, and her weak breathing under the oxygen mask was almost invisible.
She reached out her hand tremblingly and gently held Ning Zhi's hand. Her fingertips touched those hideous scars, and her heart felt like it was being tightly gripped.
"Mom..." she whispered softly, tears falling on the back of Ning Zhi's hand, "I'm back."
On the hospital bed, Ning Zhi's eyelashes trembled slightly, as if she heard her voice.
Fu Linghe stood at the door of the ward, his silver hair slightly disheveled. He looked at Yun Zheng's back with deep and gentle eyes.
Mo Chenfeng walked up to him and whispered, "Go and rest for a while. Let the mother and daughter be alone for a while."
Fu Linghe nodded slightly, but his eyes were still fixed on Yun Zheng's thin back.
She knelt in front of the bed, her shoulders shaking slightly, as if she was crying silently.
"She needs time." Mo Chenfeng's voice was soft and a little tired. "She has endured too much alone over the years."
Fu Linghe withdrew his gaze, his eyes deep as ink beneath his silver hair. "I'll wait for her."
Mo Chenfeng glanced at him, the corners of his lips raised slightly, "I can see that."
The two walked out of the ward side by side, and the light in the corridor stretched their shadows very long.
Mo Chenfeng suddenly stopped and said in a low voice, "Thank you for taking care of her."
Fu Linghe glanced sideways, met his sincere gaze, and shook her head gently, "She is my life, everything to me. It is my duty to take care of her..."
In the ward, Yun Zheng held Ning Zhi's hand, and her fingertips gently traced the scar on her wrist.
The uneven surface felt like a blunt knife, slowly cutting her heart.
"I'm sorry..." she whispered softly, tears dripping onto the white sheets, wetting them. "I should have come back sooner."
Ning Zhi's fingers suddenly moved, faintly but clearly hooking her fingertips.
Yun Zheng suddenly looked up and met Ning Zhi's slowly opening eyes.
Those eyes, which looked exactly like hers, were filled with tears, weak but bright.
"Zheng Zheng..." Ning Zhi's voice came through the oxygen mask. Her breath was so weak that it made Yun Zheng burst into tears instantly.
"It's me, it's me..." Yun Zheng held her hand tightly, fearing that she would disappear again, "I'm here, Mom..."
Ning Zhi's tears slid down the corners of her eyes and sank into her temples.
She raised her hand with difficulty and touched Yun Zheng's cheek with trembling hands, her fingertips were cold but gentle.
"Aren't you...going back...to the capital?" Her voice was so soft that it was almost inaudible, but it made Yun Zheng's heart tremble violently.
Yun Zheng leaned over and hugged her, carefully avoiding the tubes connected to her body.
The faint medicinal scent from Ning Zhi lingered at the tip of my nose, strange yet familiar.
"No... I'm not going back." Yun Zheng's voice was choked with sobs, and her tears soaked Ning Zhi's hospital gown. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying here with you."
Ning Zhi's lips curled up weakly, and her fingers stroked her long hair weakly.
Outside the ward, Fu Linghe watched the scene through the glass window, his eyes softening a little under his silver hair.
Mo Chenfeng stood beside him, with a glimmer in his eyes.
"She has been waiting for this day for many years." Mo Chenfeng whispered, with relief in his voice.
Fu Linghe did not respond, but his eyes always followed Yun Zheng's figure, looking at her trembling shoulders, her clenched hands, and the way she finally let down all her defenses.
Ning Zhi's physical strength was quickly exhausted, and after confirming that Yun Zheng had really returned to her, she fell asleep again.
Yun Zheng didn't dare to let go and still held her hand tightly, as if this could keep her.
The nurse gently pushed the door open and came in, whispering to Yun Zheng, "The patient needs to rest. You should go and rest too."
Yun Zheng shook her head and sat there stubbornly, "I want to stay with her for a while longer."
The nurse hesitated to speak and finally walked out.
Fu Linghe walked in and stood silently behind her, his hand gently resting on her shoulder.
"She needs rest, and so do you." His voice was low and gentle. "I'll be on guard here. If anything happens, I'll let you know immediately."
Yun Zheng looked up at him, her red and swollen eyes filled with fatigue and anxiety.
Fu Linghe leaned over and gently wiped the tears from her face with his fingertips. "Let's go, I promise."
In the end, Yun Zheng compromised.
She looked at Ning Zhi reluctantly and followed Fu Linghe out of the ward.
She sat down tiredly on the bench in the corridor, as if all her strength had been drained away.
Fu Linghe sat down beside her and handed her a glass of warm water. "Drink some water."
Yun Zheng took the cup of water, her fingertips were cold.
She took small sips, the warm water flowing down her throat, but it couldn't warm the chill in her heart.
"The scars on her wrist..." Yun Zheng's voice was very soft, as if she was talking to herself, "There are so many, so deep..."
Fu Linghe was silent for a moment, then reached out and took her into his arms. "It's all over."
Yun Zheng leaned on his shoulder, closed her eyes, and tears silently fell again.
She could feel Fu Linghe's strong heartbeat, steady and warm, like a lighthouse that would never collapse.
"Do you think I did something wrong?" Yun Zheng looked at Fu Linghe with unfocused eyes like a helpless child, "If I had done it earlier..."
Fu Linghe tightened his arms and rested his chin lightly on the top of her head. "This is not your fault."
At the end of the corridor, Mo Chenfeng looked at the two people hugging each other, and a complex emotion flashed in his eyes.
He turned and left, leaving the two of them alone.
As the night deepened, the lights in the hospital remained bright.
With Fu Linghe's company, Yun Zheng finally got rid of her fatigue and fell into a deep sleep.
Fu Linghe carefully picked her up and took her to the lounge next door.
He gently placed her on the bed and covered her with the quilt.
The moonlight poured in through the gap in the curtains and fell on her tear-stained face.
Fu Linghe leaned over and gave her a light kiss on the forehead.
"Go to sleep," he whispered, "I'm here."
Outside the window, the night breeze blows gently and the shadows of the trees sway.
