Chapter 391 The Mo Family Must Be Invited to the Engagement Banquet
"We went for a prenatal checkup today. Mom was very worried and sent me a lot of messages." Yun Zheng said as she took out her cell phone and opened WeChat.
There were more than a dozen unread messages displayed on the screen, all from Shen Lanshu, who had been asking her since seven in the morning whether she had gotten up, had eaten breakfast, and when she would go to the hospital.
Fu Linghe glanced at the dense messages and the corners of his mouth rose slightly.
"My mom is like that. She was even more nervous than I was when you got pregnant."
"How about we go back to our old house today?" Yun Zheng looked up at the man and asked tentatively.
Her fingers unconsciously stroked her slightly bulging belly, where their baby was growing.
Fu Linghe put his arm around her waist and raised his eyebrows slightly. "I'm fine with anything. I'll follow Madam's arrangements."
His palm rested warmly on her lower back, which had been sore lately from the pregnancy.
Yun Zheng's eyes lit up. "Then let's go back to our hometown and stay for one night."
She hadn't been back for several weeks. The last time she went back was when they had just returned from Country A.
"Do you want to call Mom first?" Fu Linghe asked as he picked up the car keys.
Yun Zheng shook her head. "Just go back. There's no need to tell the elders at home and make them prepare everything."
She knew the elders of the Fu family too well, especially her mother-in-law Shen Lanshu. If she knew they were going back, she would definitely prepare a lot of supplements and special items for pregnant women, making a big fuss.
Fu Linghe chuckled and pinched her nose. "You're really good at saving them some trouble."
As the sun set, their car drove into the garden of the Fu family's old house.
This large mansion, which blends Chinese and Western styles, looks particularly peaceful in the twilight.
Several old plum trees in the yard have already produced small green plums, and the air is filled with a faint floral fragrance.
In the living room, Shen Lanshu and the old lady were sitting on the sofa watching TV series.
A family ethics drama was playing on the large LCD TV. The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were sitting side by side, with a plate of cut fruit and two cups of scented tea on the coffee table in front of them.
"Mom, look how unreasonable this mother-in-law is," Shen Lanshu pointed at the character on TV who was scolding her daughter-in-law and frowned, "How can you treat your daughter-in-law like this?"
The old lady patted the back of her hand and said with a smile, "That's why it's just a TV show. The daughters-in-law of our Fu family are all precious."
As she spoke, she picked up a piece of cantaloupe and handed it to Shen Lanshu's mouth.
Shen Lanshu took it naturally and said while eating, "Zheng Zheng must be having a hard time because she's pregnant with twins. I'll make some soup for her tomorrow."
"You, don't put too much pressure on her," the old lady looked at her daughter-in-law lovingly. "Young people nowadays have their own ideas, and we, as elders, are more understanding."
Just then, there was a noise in the hallway.
The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law turned around at the same time and saw Fu Linghe walking in with Yun Zheng, and their eyes widened in surprise.
"Oh!" Shen Lanshu was the first to jump up, almost knocking over her teacup, "Why did you come back so suddenly?"
She walked over quickly, took Yun Zheng's hand and looked her up and down.
The old lady quickly pressed the pause button on the TV and stood up shakily. "Hurry up and sit down. Have you eaten yet? Why didn't you tell me in advance?"
Yun Zheng was a little embarrassed by her mother-in-law and grandmother's enthusiasm. She sat down on the sofa and said, "I've already eaten. I just wanted to come back to see you."
Shen Lanshu immediately sat down next to Yun Zheng, one hand unconsciously touching her belly. "I went for a prenatal checkup today. How were the results? What did the doctor say?"
"Both babies are doing well," Yun Zheng said with a gentle smile. "They're just a little older than a single baby. The doctor said they need more nutrition."
"We were exhausted from having one child before, not to mention your twins," Shen Lanshu said distressedly, turning to Fu Linghe and saying, "You have to take good care of Zheng Zheng and put aside the company's affairs if you can."
Fu Linghe stood aside, a smile on his face, "I will follow my mother's instructions."
He looked around, "Where are Grandpa and Dad?"
"In the study," Shen Lanshu replied, her eyes never leaving Yun Zheng's stomach. "Do you want the kitchen to make some more supper? You're eating enough for three people by yourself right now."
Yun Zheng quickly waved her hands, "Really, no need, Mom. I had a full meal tonight."
Fu Linghe leaned over and kissed Yun Zheng on the forehead. "I'm going to the study to find Grandpa and Dad. You stay with Mom and Grandma for a while."
After saying that, he walked towards the second floor with steady steps.
At the door of the study, Fu Linghe knocked gently, and Fu Yanze's low voice came from inside, "Come in."
When I opened the door, the study was filled with a faint scent of sandalwood.
Mr. Fu sat behind a mahogany desk, reading a document;
Fu Yanze stood in front of the window with a glass of whiskey in his hand. The father and son seemed to be discussing some serious topic.
Seeing his son come in, Fu Yanze raised his eyebrows, "Why didn't you tell me in advance that you were coming back?"
Fu Linghe walked to the desk and said, "If Yun Zheng wants to come back, bring her back."
He paused, "I have something to discuss with you and Grandpa."
Mr. Fu took off his reading glasses and motioned for his grandson to sit down. "What's so serious?"
Fu Linghe did not sit down immediately, but walked to his father and took another glass of whiskey handed to him.
"I took Yun Zheng for a prenatal checkup today, and the results were good." He gently swirled his wine glass, "So I think we can get the engagement party on schedule."
Mr. Fu nodded. "Your mother has been taking care of this matter. Basically, everything is ready. We are just waiting for the date to be set."
Fu Yanze took a sip of wine and asked, "Do you have other considerations?"
Fu Linghe looked his father straight in the eye. "Yes. Yun Zheng and I haven't invited the most important guests to our engagement party yet."
Fu Yanze's expression suddenly became a little solemn. He put down his wine glass and said in a low voice, "Are you talking about the Mohist school in Country A?"
"Yes," Fu Linghe nodded, "They are Yun Zheng's family, so they should be invited."
He paused, observing his father and grandfather's reactions. "And Mr. Mo clearly stated that they could resolve the conflict between the two families for Yun Zheng. It all depends on our opinion."
The study fell into silence for a moment.
Fu Yanze walked to the desk, tapping his fingers unconsciously on the table.
Mr. Fu leaned back in his chair, his eyes far away, as if he was recalling something long ago.
"We've been fighting for so many years," Old Master Fu finally said slowly, his voice full of the vicissitudes of life. "No matter what grudges our ancestors had, in the end, both sides suffered losses, and no one benefited from it."
Fu Yanze frowned. "Dad, you know, this isn't just a grudge between our ancestors. The Mo family is constantly opposing us in the international market. Last year, they even snatched away our big Southeast Asian project."
"Business is like a battlefield; victory and defeat are commonplace," said Mr. Fu calmly. "But Yun Zheng is carrying the next generation of our Fu family. Is it worth it if this old grudge deprives her of the chance to meet her other family members?"
Fu Linghe added, "The Mo family has expressed their willingness to reconcile. Zheng Zheng may not have said it, but I know she hopes the two families can live in peace. This is good for her and the child."
Fu Yanze sighed deeply, walked up to his son, and patted him on the shoulder. "You've grown up and have your own judgment. Since you believe this is right, then do it."
He turned to look at his father, "Dad, do you really think this is a good time to resolve the grudge?"
Mr. Fu stood up, walked to the window, and looked out at the garden in the night. "Grudges are like weeds in this garden. If we don't remove them in time, they will only grow more and more, eventually crowding out all the beautiful flowers."
He turned around, his eyes gleaming with wisdom. "Yun Zheng is a good child. She deserves a complete family. Besides, more friends are always better than more enemies, isn't it?"
Fu Linghe breathed a sigh of relief, the corners of his mouth slightly raised, "Thank you, Grandpa, thank you, Dad."
"However," Fu Yanze suddenly became serious, "an invitation is an invitation, but business competition still needs to follow the rules. Reconciliation does not mean we have to make concessions in the market."
Fu Linghe nodded. "Of course. That's what Mr. Mo meant. He said, 'Reconciliation is not a merger. Competition is the only way to promote progress.'"
Mr. Fu laughed, "This old guy is still so smart."
He walked back to the desk. "That's settled then. Ling He, you'll be in charge of contacting the Mo family. Your father and I will arrange the rest of the engagement party."
In the living room downstairs, Yun Zheng was surrounded by her mother-in-law and grandmother, who were asking about her well-being.
Chen Lanshu took out a box of calcium tablets for pregnant women from somewhere and insisted that Yun Zheng take one on the spot.
The old lady took out the small shoes she had prepared long ago, one pair of light blue and one pair of pink, saying they were for her future great-grandchildren.
"Grandma, we don't know the gender yet," Yun Zheng said, not knowing whether to laugh or cry as she took the small shoes. "What if they're both boys or girls?"
Shen Lanshu disagreed, "Then buy more! Anyway, our Fu family doesn't lack this little money."
She suddenly lowered her voice and asked, "Zheng'er, have you contacted your...Grandpa Mo recently?"
Yun Zheng was slightly startled, her fingers unconsciously stroking the soft upper of her shoes. "Grandpa called last week and asked about my health."
She hesitated for a moment, "Mom, do you... not like me mentioning the Mohist school?"
Shen Lanshu and the old lady exchanged a glance. The old lady gently patted the back of Yun Zheng's hand and said, "Child, let the past be the past. You are now the daughter-in-law of our Fu family, and you are pregnant with the blood of our Fu family. That's enough."
"Yes," Shen Lanshu took over the conversation, her tone much softer than before, "What's important is that you and the children are healthy and happy. As for the rest... we will take care of it."
A touch of emotion flashed in Yun Zheng's eyes. She knew that the grudge between the Fu family and the Mo family could not be resolved overnight.
But at this moment, in this warm living room, she felt the unconditional love and support of her family.
Just then, Fu Linghe walked down from upstairs with a relaxed expression on his face.
He walked over to Yun Zheng and sat down, holding her hand naturally.
"What are you talking about?" he asked, his eyes shifting between the three most important women.
"Grandma prepared some little shoes for the baby," Yun Zheng held up the two pairs of delicate shoes. "Are they cute?"
Fu Linghe smiled and nodded, then looked at his mother and grandmother. "Grandpa and father asked me to tell you that the Mo family should be invited to the engagement party."
Shen Lanshu was obviously stunned for a moment, but quickly regained her composure. "Did your grandfather decide?"
"Well," Fu Linghe squeezed Yun Zheng's hand, "Grandpa said that grudges shouldn't be passed down to the next generation. Yun Zheng and the children deserve a complete family."
Yun Zheng's eyes instantly turned red. She didn't expect the Fu family would do this for her.
Shen Lanshu looked at her daughter-in-law's moved expression and suddenly reached out and hugged her in her arms.
"Silly child, why are you crying?" Shen Lanshu said softly, her voice choking. "From the day you married into the Fu family, you are our family. There is nothing that cannot be solved between family members."
The old lady nodded and smiled, tears glistening in her eyes.
Fu Linghe looked at this scene and felt a warm feeling in his heart.
He knew that this decision not only opened the door to the other half of their family for Yun Zheng and her unborn child, but also put an end to the years of feud between the two families.
