Chapter 398 Engagement Banquet

Chapter 398 Engagement Banquet

Yun Zheng woke up at six in the morning.

She gently moved Fu Linghe's arm around her waist and stepped barefoot on the thick carpet of the presidential suite.

Outside the floor-to-ceiling window, the whole city was still sleeping in the morning light, but her heart was beating so fast that it seemed like it was about to jump out of her chest.

"Why are you up so early?" Fu Linghe's voice came from behind with sleepiness.

He didn't know when he woke up, and was looking at her with his head tilted.

Yun Zheng turned around, the morning light gilding her. "I dreamed that I was late for the engagement party in my pajamas."

Fu Linghe chuckled as he got out of bed and put his arms around her from behind, his hands naturally resting on her slightly bulging belly. "Zhengzheng, even if you go in pajamas, you'll still be the most beautiful person in the room."

His body temperature came through the silk nightgown, and Yun Zheng leaned relaxedly in his arms.

Although she was more than three months pregnant and her belly was not very obvious, Fu Linghe had already developed the habit of protecting her abdomen at all times.

"Nervous?" He rested his chin on the top of her head.

Yun Zheng nodded honestly.

Ever since she became pregnant, her emotions have always been extremely sensitive.

Fu Linghe turned her around, held her face in his hands, and said, "Look at me."

His deep eyes were filled with the tenderness of the world. "Today you only need to do one thing, enjoy being my bride."

Yun Zheng's eyes were burning. Fu Linghe had already picked up the intercom on the bedside table and said, "Send up two breakfasts. I want the one specially made for pregnant women."

After breakfast, the professional makeup team surrounded Yun Zheng, and Fu Linghe was like her most loyal knight, checking her condition every ten minutes.

"Have you had enough water?"

"Would you like another lumbar cushion?"

"Is the air conditioning temperature appropriate?"

When the makeup artist was interrupted for the third time while applying eyeliner, Yun Zheng finally couldn't help laughing. "Mr. Fu, if you keep asking questions like this, we might miss the auspicious time."

Fu Linghe straightened his tie and rarely showed an embarrassed expression.

He leaned over and whispered in her ear, "I'll go downstairs and take a look. Call me immediately if you feel any discomfort."

Before leaving, Fu Linghe reminded the makeup artist, "She must use the mascara specially formulated for pregnant women."

At eleven o'clock in the morning, Yun Zheng finally stood in front of the full-length mirror.

She was wearing a haze blue long dress in the mirror, with an adjustable elastic band on the back that Fu Linghe insisted on designing, which perfectly fit her body shape that had changed due to pregnancy.

The hand-sewn diamonds on the hem of the skirt sparkle with every step, like a flowing river of stars.

"It's perfect." The stylist put on the specially made sapphire ring for her. "Mr. Fu will be speechless when he sees it."

Yun Zheng stroked the ring and recalled the piano music in the greenhouse yesterday.

Just then, there was a gentle knock on the door.

"Young Madam, the time has come." The butler's respectful voice came.

Yun Zheng took a deep breath and walked towards the spiral staircase with the help of the bridesmaid.

When she appeared at the top of the stairs, the entire banquet hall suddenly fell silent.

Then, the melody of "Wedding in a Dream" sounded leisurely.

Yun Zheng looked up and saw Fu Linghe standing at the end of the stairs with a white grand piano behind him.

He wore a suit the same color as her dress, and a small sapphire brooch on his tie.

"I asked someone to bring the piano from the greenhouse." When she reached the last step, Fu Linghe took her hand, his eyes full of pride, "This way, our engagement song won't be missing."

Yun Zheng's tears were about to burst out, but Fu Linghe was prepared and took out a handkerchief embroidered with jasmine flowers from his pocket.

"Don't cry, your makeup will smudge." He chuckled and wiped away the tears from her eyes. "Our engagement party has just begun."

The banquet hall was decorated to look like a starry sky, with countless crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, reflecting sapphire-like light under the lights.

The main table was covered with satin of the same color as Yun Zheng's dress, with an exquisite sheepskin scroll placed in the center.

"Dear friends and family." Fu Linghe's voice was remarkably steady through the microphone. "Thank you all for witnessing this important moment for Yun Zheng and me."

He untied the ribbon from the scroll, revealing the neat handwriting inside. "This is my engagement letter, written by hand. I used the ink and seal that have been passed down in the Fu family for a hundred years."

Normally, the marriage certificate should be prepared by the elders, but Fu Linghe wanted to prepare their marriage certificate himself.

Yun Zheng looked at him in surprise.

The handwriting on this engagement letter is so neat that it doesn't seem to be from Fu Linghe's hand.

She had seen his signature in a flamboyant style when he signed documents.

"I've been practicing calligraphy for three months." Fu Linghe whispered, drawing good-natured laughter from the guests.

He recited solemnly, "Two families united in marriage, a covenant signed in one hall, a happy marriage forever united, a match made in the same name..."

When he finished reciting "May the zither and the harp be with you, and the years be peaceful", Yun Zheng noticed a white-haired old man walking up to him.

"This is Mr. Zhong, an old friend of the Fu family," Fu Linghe introduced. "He wants to check your pulse."

Yun Zheng stretched out her wrist obediently.

The old Chinese doctor's fingers gently rested on her pulse, and suddenly his eyebrows raised, with surprise flashing in his eyes.

"Congratulations, Mr. Fu." The old Chinese doctor said in a loud voice, "The young lady is pregnant with a dragon and a phoenix!"

The whole audience was in an uproar.

Yun Zheng looked at Fu Linghe in shock, the latter's face was full of unconcealable pride.

He obviously knew it a long time ago.

"I wanted to tell you later," he whispered in her ear. "Old Zhong reviewed the medical report yesterday."

Yun Zheng was surprised and happy, and her fingers unconsciously touched her lower abdomen.

Yesterday he was at home guessing with Fu Linghe whether there were two boys or two girls, and it turned out that there was a brother and sister living inside!

During the following tea ceremony, when Yun Zheng was holding the teacup and walking towards the elders of the Fu family, a familiar feeling of nausea suddenly hit her.

Her hand shook and the tea almost spilled.

Fu Linghe reacted very quickly, kneeling on one knee to take the teacup, "Dad, Mom, I'm toasting this cup of tea to you on behalf of Zheng Zheng."

Fu Yanze was so moved that his eyes turned red, and he announced on the spot that he would give the seaside holiday villa to his daughter-in-law for recuperation.

"Dad, this can't be possible...!" Yun Zheng was about to refuse, but Fu Linghe had already taken the key for her. "Thank you, Dad. It just so happens that Zheng Zheng likes watching the sea."

When the ceremony came to the token exchange part, Fu Linghe took a blue velvet box from the master of ceremonies.

The whole audience waited with bated breath for him to take out the ring, but he took out a diamond bracelet instead.

"This matches your ring." Fu Linghe carefully put it on her. "The doctor said you'll be able to feel fetal movement in four months. Every time the baby moves, the diamond will sparkle."

He kissed the back of her hand. "It's like the stars are answering us."

Yun Zheng couldn't hold back any longer and tears welled up in her eyes.

Fu Linghe was prepared. Like a magician, he pulled out a small bottle of eye drops from his suit pocket. "Specially for pregnant women. Won't smudge your makeup."

At the dinner, Yun Zheng's seat was replaced with a massage chair personally adjusted by Fu Linghe.

He held her hand throughout the whole process, and whenever a guest came to toast, he would be the first to stand up and say, "My wife doesn't drink, so I'll take this glass."

As the dinner was coming to an end, Fu Linghe left early with Yun Zheng on the grounds that "the pregnant woman needed to rest."

Back in the suite, Yun Zheng finally dropped her tough facade and collapsed into Fu Linghe's arms, "Honey, my leg is almost broken."

Fu Linghe immediately picked her up horizontally, gently placed her on the bed, and expertly massaged her red ankles. "Are you exhausted today?"

Yun Zheng looked at the starry sky projection on the ceiling. She understood that this was also Fu Linghe's careful arrangement. Touched, she whispered, "Fu Linghe, how many times have you pinched yourself today?"

Fu Linghe paused, "Three times. What's wrong?"

"I pinched her twice secretly." Yun Zheng turned to look at him, her eyes reflecting the stars. "But I still can't believe this is real."

Fu Linghe leaned over and kissed her lips until she was out of breath before letting go. "Does it feel real now?"

Yun Zheng blushed and nodded, tracing his brow bone with her fingers. "Thank you for giving me such a perfect engagement party."

Fu Linghe held her in his arms, and the two of them looked at the city lights outside the floor-to-ceiling window together.
