Chapter 1 Talent Awakening

After leaving the house, Cheng Huaijin put away her smile and slowly headed to the dessert shop.

Although she's only 13, she's no longer an innocent little girl; she has to think about her future. In this other world, beast tamers reign supreme. Children are tested at age 12 to see if they've awakened their beast taming talent. She hasn't, but her younger brother has, so she's long been abandoned by her parents.

Cheng Huaijin felt a surge of anger rising in his heart as he thought of the young man he had met last week.

If she wasn't mistaken, Cheng's father might want to... use her to exchange for money.

I told you before, this is a world of beast taming, and beast tamers and ordinary people are completely different species.

Cheng Huaijin recalled the repulsive feeling emanating from that person and made an irresponsible guess: could that person be some kind of evil beast tamer who bought cute, ordinary girls to train in some kind of evil pet beast?

Once beast tamers are involved, the laws for ordinary people become ineffective.

Cheng's parents are ordinary people who don't earn much money. But Cheng Woyu is a beast tamer, and everything from contracting beasts, training them, leveling them up, raising them, to learning how to be a beast tamer requires a lot of money.

This is an unsolvable problem. Even if the Cheng family doesn't have much resources to support Cheng Woyu, the fact that Cheng's father would scheme against his daughter makes him a scoundrel.

Cheng Huaijin's mind was in turmoil; the more she thought about it, the more difficult the matter seemed.

First of all, she is not a beast tamer, she has no talent, and she has no special privileges.

Secondly, she was only 13 years old, still in junior high school, with only 320 yuan in savings, no ID card, no mobile phone, and had never been anywhere except her home and school neighborhood. She hadn't even explored the entire city of Dongcheng where she lived.

Finally, this is not the world we were in before. This world has beast tamers, pet beasts, bio-mechanical machines, spaceships, alien creatures... and too many unknown dangers.

Even if she runs, where can she run to?

What if I die a horrible death if I don't run? So what if I die? I got this life for free anyway. What I fear most is dying a miserable death.

The more he thought about it, the more miserable he became. Cheng Huaijin even considered jumping off the building right now.

Maybe I can even time travel once, hahaha...

Lost in thought, Cheng Huaijin walked expressionlessly to the dessert shop, bought egg waffles, and headed back.

She'd already put away the extra 5 yuan. Right now, she wasn't in the mood for chicken cake; she just wanted to save money!

The thoughts about suicide I mentioned earlier were just jokes; they're choices you only make when you're at your wit's end.

We should keep fighting until things are resolved. If only I could find a way to leave this house...

The best solution right now is for her to awaken her beast-taming talent.

Although she didn't show any beast-taming talent in the first test, she's a transmigrator, how could she not have beast-taming talent? It must just be that the time isn't right yet...

As Cheng Huaijin walked along, lost in thought, he didn't notice that the bag in his hand was suddenly snatched away. A green line darted into the bushes, pulling the plastic bag containing egg waffles along with it.

Cheng Huaijin: ?

She hesitated for a moment, then rushed toward the thief.

The Cheng family was poor and lived in an old neighborhood. The area was noisy and there was little security. Petty theft was common, and the locals were used to it. Cheng Huaijin was furious and determined to catch the thief.

She squinted, carefully observing the lush green grass in front of her. The grass was as tall as a person's calf, leading Cheng Huaijin to suspect that the "person" who had just stolen her egg waffles was a pet. After stealing them, it would hide in the grass; it was either an insect-type or a grass-type pet.

These kinds of pets generally don't have high attack power, especially small ones like this one, which ordinary people aren't afraid of. If it's wild, that's fine, but if it has an owner... Cheng Huaijin's face darkened, and he suddenly realized that he might not be able to get the egg waffle back.

No one will compensate for wild pets. For pets with owners, it depends on what kind of person the tamer is. Cheng Huaijin has seen those arrogant tamers before, as if talking to an ordinary person would make the noble tamer unable to breathe.

Damn it, that beast tamer.

Cheng Huaijin took a few steps forward, his feet landing on the soft ground.

"Grass……"

"Grass……"

"Grass!"

Is someone swearing? Cheng Huaijin looked around suspiciously.

*Snap*, a tiny force slapped her leg. The force was so light that Cheng Huaijin didn't even notice it the first time.

Snap, snap, snap!

"Is this ever going to end?!" Cheng Huaijin, his face darkening, grabbed the green leaf and casually yanked it upwards.

A grass sprite with its feet covered in mud appeared before Cheng Huaijin's eyes.

Grass Sprite, a grass-type pet, likes to stick itself into the soil. It is good at patting and remaining still, and has a certain chance of learning the Leaf Blade move.

Cheng Huaijin eyed the clearly underdeveloped grass sprite with suspicion. Withered yellow leaves, bewildered eyes… it didn't seem very bright. Could such a small grass sprite really eat such a large egg waffle? Besides, do grass sprites even eat egg waffles? Don't they all use photosynthesis?

"Grass..." The grass sprite blinked.

Looking into its clear, foolish eyes, Cheng Huaijin realized that he had been overthinking things.

These low-level pets, which are so common, probably have brains no bigger than Cheng Huaijin's little fingernail. They wouldn't have any concept of stealing or robbing.

It was the first time Cheng Huaijin had ever touched a pet animal, and it was quite fun; it was a bit like the little animals that appear in cartoons.

Cheng Huaijin, resigned to his bad luck, was about to release the grass spirit: "Sorry, I didn't mean to step on you... What's this?"
