"Dear viewers, passionate adventurers, good morning!" The host of this Mist Cup is a dashing red-haired lady.
"Welcome everyone to the mysterious and challenging Mist Cup Beast Taming Challenge!"
The Misty Cup has never had a live spectator event, but it does deploy a thousand stealth drones to record the players' performance.
"This is a game for the brave, a contest of wisdom and strength, a resonance between the soul and nature! Here, every battle is fraught with uncertainty, every decision is a matter of life and death, and every victory forges a legend," the host announced with high spirits. "The Misty Forest awaits our exploration! Today, beast tamers from all corners of the world will bring their pets to this mysterious land, embarking on a thrilling competitive journey!"
I Love Beast Taming Network is live-streaming the Misty Cup competition. Although there are 1000 cameras, only the top 500 players will be broadcast live. Players will undergo checks before entering the forest and are not allowed to bring any items to prevent cheating. Everything needed for the competition, including water, food, maps, and tools, can be found in the forest.
"Over the next seven days, we will witness a series of thrilling beast-taming battles! Here, there is no absolute distinction between strong and weak, only the courage to face the challenge and the unwavering pursuit of victory!"
Cheng Huaijin took a deep breath and stood next to Yunfei. She saw Liya and Baoyan, whom Coach Guan had mentioned before; the two of them were quite far apart.
"Now, let's give a warm round of applause and high expectations to welcome the start of the Misty Cup Beast Taming Challenge!"
"Attention all contestants, the competition begins!!"
The timer started ticking, the entrance to the Misty Forest opened, and all the contestants rushed in.
Yunfei summoned the Flying Wolf and rode it into the air.
Cheng Huaijin wore a special strap over her body, making it easier for the Thunder Elf to carry her while flying.
Yun Fei twitched his nose and said, "The right side."
Lei Jingling nodded, picked up Cheng Huaijin, and followed the Flying Wolf.
After leaving the main force, Cheng Huaijin and Yun Fei landed on foot.
"Flying, forest, danger," Yunfei explained.
Cheng Huaijin nodded: "I understand. We need to find the first resource point, but we don't have a map..."
Yunfei gestured to Cheng Huaijin not to worry: "Fei, smell it."
The flying wolf folded its wings and sniffed the ground: "Awoo~"
Yunfei patted its head: "Found it."
Cheng Huaijin was grateful to Coach Guan; the teammates he found were so reliable!
"Thanks!"
The plants in the Misty Forest were incredibly diverse, leaving Cheng Huaijin overwhelmed. Many of these strange plants were things he had only seen in books; he was seeing them for the first time.
Yunfei's Flying Wolf has a very keen sense of smell and can detect scents left a year ago, while the little Ironclad Tiger can only detect scents from a week ago.
This might be the difference between "cats" and "dogs"!
Following the Flying Wolf, which burrowed in and out of the area, Cheng Huaijin silently memorized the route.
"Awoo~"
arrive!
Cheng Huaijin spotted the Mist Cup flag not far ahead; this was the starting resource point.
Seeing the two stop, the Thunder Sprite asked in confusion, "Electric?"
Cheng Huaijin pressed it down: "Wait, we need to check if there are any traps."
Yunfei took a few steps back, and Cheng Huaijin said to Lei Jingling, "Poison Leaf Sharp Blade, scout ahead."
The Thunder Sprite used its Poison Leaf Blade skill, and with a few snapping sounds, several leaves pierced the ground and the tree trunk.
About a minute later, nothing happened.
Yunfei nodded to Cheng Huaijin: "Let's go."
Flying Wolf was about half a body length ahead of Yunfei. Just as its front paw stepped within half a meter of the resource point, the ground suddenly shook, and a vine as thick as a wrist came straight at it!
Yun Fei reached out to block Cheng Huaijin, shouting, "Fei!"
The Flying Wolf took off instantly. The vines, having failed to catch their target, immediately changed direction and rushed towards Yun Fei and Cheng Huaijin.
"Electromagnetic shield!"
A semi-transparent shield rose up in response, blocking the two of them.
The vines sizzled as they hit the shield.
"Not good!" Cheng Huaijin scooped up Yunfei and shouted to the Thunder Spirit, "Take us away, quick!"
The Thunder Elf's wings grew larger, and it carried Cheng Huaijin away.
Perhaps stimulated by the lightning, more vines rushed towards them. Fortunately, they were fast enough that the vines retreated after chasing them for a certain distance. The lightning sprite carried the two people and flew away. When Cheng Huaijin said, "That's enough," it threw the two people down.
"Ouch!" Cheng Huaijin rubbed his bottom. "You threw it way too fast."
Yunfei was rather short, and Cheng Huaijin shielded him when he fell, so he wasn't injured.
"Thank you," Yunfei said.
Cheng Huaijin brushed the dust off his shoulder: "Are you alright?"
Yunfei shook his head: "It's nothing. I'm just soft-hearted."
Cheng Huaijin had gotten used to Yunfei's way of speaking. Yunfei's skin was very dark, and she couldn't see any scratches. She guessed that Yunfei was fine, so she was relieved.
"That was definitely the Soft-Hearted Vine, a grass-type pet. They say it responds better to gentleness than force, so you absolutely can't confront it head-on, or it'll be very troublesome." Cheng Huaijin stroked his chin. "I remember you have a Mist-Walking Beast, which can become invisible, right? Can it sneak off to retrieve resources?"
Yunfei said hesitantly, "I can take it, but I can't swipe my card."
"That's true." Cheng Huaijin was so focused on getting the map and resources that he almost forgot to check in. "Check-in requires verification by the player themselves. This is a bit tricky..."
