Chapter 24 The Death of Popo

Cheng Huaijin had no idea how things had developed to this point.

She transmigrated to another world ten years ago, working diligently and never giving up, always striving to play her role well.

A well-behaved daughter, a hardworking student, and a law-abiding citizen.

Even though she didn't awaken her talent as a beast tamer after the age of 12, she never gave up.

She always believed that she was special. Even if she wasn't the chosen one of heaven or the protagonist of the world, she was at least someone who could be remembered in history. Otherwise, why would God arrange for her to travel through time?

A few days ago, she inexplicably awakened her talent for taming beasts and formed a contract with a seasoned grass spirit, but she was not discouraged at all.

Because she believed it was all fate's arrangement.

Fate did not deceive her; the grass spirit possessed a special talent, capable of condensing plant crystals she had never even heard of, which revived a dying flame wolf.

The grass sprite transformed into a black egg beast.

Deep down, Cheng Huaijin believed that after the Black Egg Beast evolved, it would become an extraordinary pet beast, perhaps even like the legendary divine beasts.

She has that confidence.

Just as she was worrying about the supplementary enrollment exam, she unexpectedly encountered Emerald Leaf Lembobo, a pet beast abandoned by the genius beast tamer Xu Xingxi.

Bobo made a pact with her to help her with her exams, and in return, she found a way to take Bobo to see Xu Xingxi.

As expected, he secured first place in the competition exam.

But Bobo broke.

Right in front of her, it exploded like fireworks.

Cheng Huaijin stared at the green fireworks, frozen in place.

Memories from the past ten years flashed before his eyes, leaving Cheng Huaijin at a loss.

"Quick! Teacher Hao, come and take a look!"

Call emergency services!

"Has the Beast Taming Center sent a vehicle yet?"

"What's wrong with this student?"

"Don't just stand there!"

His vision suddenly blurred. A hammer struck Cheng Huaijin hard on the head.

"Bang—!"

A sharp pain struck.

Cheng Huaijin suddenly stood up, feeling dizzy.

She turned her head and looked at the black egg beast that kept hopping around.

Hehe! Hehe!

Black Egg Beast's big eyes filled with tears as it looked at Cheng Huaijin with a wronged expression.

Cheng Huaijin turned her head slightly; she hadn't heard what the black egg beast was saying.

Hehe! Hehe!

The black egg beast jumped into her arms, looked at her intently, and tears streamed down its face.

"What's wrong?" Cheng Huaijin asked, looking down at her.

The black egg beast was extremely anxious: "Hehe! Hehe! He!"

Cheng Huaijin then realized, "I don't understand what you're saying."

A ridiculous idea came to her mind.

She focused her consciousness into the mark on her wrist, but the spot that belonged to the Black Egg Beast was no longer there.

Only one fragment remained, embedded in her marked space.

Long, emerald-green shards of glass stretched across the two pet spaces, piercing the gap between them.

Cheng Huaijin reached out his consciousness, wanting to touch the fragment.

"Ah!" Cheng Huaijin screamed, clutching his head as if his head was being pierced by a thousand needles.

Harlua rushed in: "Lulu!"

"Hehe!" the black egg beast exclaimed.

The two pets began to communicate in a language that Cheng Huaijin couldn't understand.

Cheng Huaijin covered his forehead and lay there weakly.

Harlua nodded to her, then emitted a sound wave that summoned the human nurse.

As soon as the nurse entered the room, she saw Cheng Huaijin lying on the bed, half-dead. She went over and asked, "What happened to you? Don't get agitated. You were just slightly affected by the explosion. You might have a concussion, but it's nothing serious."

Cheng Huaijin asked weakly, "How is my pet? That Emerald Leaf Lime... is it dead?"

The nurse paused for a moment, then said, "Let the doctor explain this to you. Wait a moment, have some water first."

Cheng Huaijin sighed, took the water, and stroked the black egg's shell while waiting for the doctor to arrive.

The doctor was quite busy and took a long time to arrive. By then, the black egg beast had already fallen asleep from Cheng Huaijin's caresses.

"You should have seen the status of your pet space by now," the doctor said, flipping through the medical record.

Cheng Huaijin nodded: "Yes, doctor, what happened?"

The doctor adjusted his glasses and explained, "In short, your pet space has been overcrowded."

Cheng Huaijin: "Huh?"

The doctor continued, "You have a max-level Jade Leaf Lem. During the battle, the Jade Leaf Lem underwent a breakthrough evolution, but your pet space couldn't handle its super-evolution, so your space exploded. Your other Black Egg Beast was forced out, and your contract was broken. The current situation is..."

The doctor sighed: "The fragments of the Emerald Leaf Lim's evolution are still in your space. If you don't take them out, you won't be able to store other pets in your space."

"So, what should I do?" Cheng Huaijin asked.

The doctor shrugged: "Either you level up and become a Level 2 Beastmaster, which will give you three pet spaces, allowing you to continue your contract with the Black Egg Beast; or you can destroy the fragments in your pet space and re-contract the Black Egg Beast."

Cheng Huaijin lowered his eyes: "What would happen to my Green Leaf Lime if I destroyed the fragments?"

The doctor replied, "Theoretically, if the Emerald Lem evolves into a Super-Tier Pet, then as long as it retains even a tiny fragment, it can be resurrected. Of course, no one knows the conditions for resurrection; this has only happened once in history."

The doctor recalled, "About 100 years ago, an Eyatos was created in this way. Of course, if you choose to destroy the fragments, the Emerald Lem will disappear completely, and you can just focus on taking good care of your pet space."
