This beam of light, which seemed to be formed by tens of millions of lightning bolts, illuminated the night sky of Hope City for a moment.
As darkness fell again, the three people who had escaped by chance looked back and saw that the place where they had been standing had been burned black by the aftermath of the ship's guns, and several city defense guns had even melted on the spot.
However, the outer city area has already been strategically abandoned, so these things are unlikely to be of any use.
The three of them immediately changed direction and returned to the city wall, heading towards the water where the strange beast was.
The sea area has become quiet again. Whether it is the groups of strange beasts, the monster that is accumulating power, or the remains of the wicker man that serves as a means of transportation for these strange beasts, they have all disappeared without a trace.
In the vortex caused by the strong wind, an object the size of a head was soon brought in front of the three people.
The object was completely black with holes formed by burning. It was difficult to tell what had melted and solidified to form it.
"Like to fight?"
Luke weighed the thing back and forth through the wind, muttering softly as if observing whether there were any signs of life.
El looked at the unwanted stuff, then looked at Luke:
"That's all that's left?"
"It seems so."
"Didn't you say you wanted to catch him alive?"
Luke scratched his hair with his left hand:
"That's what I originally thought, but we are short on time and have a heavy task, so we should kill him as quickly as possible."
El nodded, and Luke looked at him again and asked:
"You saw this thing crawl out of the wicker man's head?"
"Yes, I am sure."
"That's bad..."
Luke's expression was a little ugly:
“I think other fifth-level beasts may also have something like this in their minds, but they may not know it yet.
"I'm giving you a warning now. If you haven't recovered yet, take a break."
After saying that, Luke stepped into the air again and flew towards the battlefield in the inner city on an invisible gust of wind.
"Then I will return to the battlefield as well."
Seeing that the battle here was over, Liu Xiaoheng was concerned about the soldiers in his defense zone and planned to say goodbye to El, but saw a puzzled expression on the other's face.
"What's wrong?"
Liu Xiaoheng asked.
El pursed his lips towards the sky:
"He can fly, so he can leave if he wants. But how can you cross the outer city and return to the battlefield on your own two feet? What's more, there is sea water below, and you will have to take a detour if you want to walk back."
Liu Xiaoheng looked around and found that it was indeed the case. This was the part of the city wall on the east side of the outer city area that extended into the sea. There was no boat to reach the land, so one could either swim over or walk along the city wall to the place where it was connected to the land.
"What should we do then?"
The middle-aged man was a little anxious.
"What else can I do? Wait for five minutes for me to recover my strength, and then I'll teleport you back. If you really want to find something to do..."
El looked at the strange beasts that had been gradually approaching from both sides.
"Then I'll leave these guys to you."
Liu Xiaoheng didn't reply, but fastened his helmet and reached for his waist.
“Buzz!”
---
City of Hope, central spire, ground floor.
"That's my plan."
Lin Qingliu walked out of the elevator. The space around him was empty, but he seemed to be talking to invisible listeners.
But soon a voice came -
"Please allow me to question your plans on a personal basis."
"Godfather, don't!"
The voice of "Wanjuan" came from the loudspeakers spread throughout every part of the spire, and Lin Qingliu could communicate with her seamlessly no matter where he went.
As for the latter sentence, it came from another communicator bound to [Sky Curtain].
"Why?"
Lin Qingliu, who was on his way to the energy control room, asked indifferently.
"This is a risky operation. There is a probability of failure, and we cannot afford to fail."
“I see.”
Lin Qingliu nodded, but suddenly changed the subject:
"Do you know why the outside affairs have to be handed over to [Tianmu]?"
"Of course it's because I'm more advanced than my predecessors."
The voice of [Tianmu] came from the loudspeaker.
"I doubt it."
"Wanjuan" does not seem to agree with Tianmu's point of view.
"Children should not listen to adults talking."
Lin Qingliu said this perfunctorily, then cut off the voice of [Tianmu] and explained to "Wanjuan":
“The predecessor of [Sky Curtain] was a data model, a model used to predict the survival time of Hope City.
"After converting the internal and external troubles that most cities may encounter, as well as some positive developments, into weighted data, we can make a rough deduction.
“But because Ji Yongxing is a cautious person, he was very generous in providing negative data for the model, but very little positive data.
“This results in the model showing that Hope City will never survive past the 70th year of the New Era, and Ji Yongxing also admits that due to his own caution, the Sky Curtain tends to be conservative after being activated.
“He told me this himself, and there is no exaggeration involved.
"So, I handed over the battlefield to him because he was cautious enough, and I handed over the spire to you because you were meticulous enough."
"That doesn't explain your aggressive plan."
"I haven't finished yet, 'Manjuan'."
The last door in front of Lin Qingliu opened, and the energy body that was the crystallization of the highest technology of mankind in the old era was still constrained by an invisible force field, moving slowly in a limited space.
