Chapter Twelve: The Chase

"Ginger tea...you...you're awake. I just went to get some water and picked some fruit. Come and have a taste."

The timid rabbit was quite diligent, and Jiang Cha withdrew her suspicious gaze.

"Thank you, Xiao Mu."

"No...you're welcome. Feeding females is what males should do."

He glanced at her with a slightly shy look as he said this, and his personality seemed somewhat similar to Lin Bei's.

Jiang Cha pretended not to notice his flirtatious behavior, took the water he had collected from a large leaf, washed herself quickly, and then started eating the fruit.

She glanced up at the sky without thinking and was immediately stunned into silence.

Is that an eagle?

It looks as big as a cheetah.

Although it was only a fleeting glimpse, its enormous size still made her shrink back in fright.

To her recollection, she had never seen such a large bird of prey before, and it had a tremendous impact on her.

"What's wrong?"

Feng Mu looked up curiously, but there was nothing in the sky except for hazy clouds.

"It looks like it's going to rain today!"

It's definitely going to rain soon. I didn't expect this rabbit to know so much.

How did you know?

Few orcs know how to read the weather; Jiang Cha remembers that their Rat Mountain tribe didn't seem to have that concept.

"Um... it's what the elders in the tribe say: if the clouds aren't bright and white, it means it's going to rain soon."

Feng Mu was taken aback for a moment, then softly explained the facts.

"If dark clouds appear, it means there will be very, very heavy rain."

Jiang Cha frowned as she looked at the sky. "Do you know where there's shelter from the rain?"

He hesitated for a moment, "Yes, there are, but they're a bit far."

Jiang Cha didn't want to catch a cold, so she said, "It's okay, we'll just walk faster."

"Okay, I'll take you there."

They set off immediately, and Feng Mu thoughtfully took a stick and led the way for her.

The two figures walked further and further away.

A moment later, several men in black robes emerged from the remaining firewood.

"How come there's a fire here? It must have been left by that brat Feng Mu. He actually took the fire with him!"

“I told you he was an ominous beast, and the clan leader should have killed him long ago.”

"He was an anomaly in the Black Fox clan. The chieftain only kept him around because he was soft-hearted. I never expected that he would try to forcibly violate our tribe's only sacred female. He is a disgusting beast!"

"Stop cursing, I think I can smell the rats."

"The chieftain only told us to drive him out of the tribe. Now we're secretly trying to kill him. If we're discovered... it'll be hard to explain to the chieftain."

"Then let's kill them all together!"

The leader, a man in black robes, had a red scar on his left cheek, which made him appear even more sinister and vicious when he spoke.

After exchanging a glance, they followed the trail left on the ground.

…………

Mouse Mountain Tribe.

Jiang Lu didn't have the guts to go hunting alone, but he came up with a wicked plan: to steal other people's game meat.

They stole the big bamboo rat from the Lar family.

He deliberately waited until late at night, when all the orcs were asleep, before he began his operation.

Who would have thought that Lal couldn't sleep at all that night? His heat was coming soon, and he didn't want to go to the Pi Cave to find those guys he was tired of playing with, so he lay on the stone bed and tormented himself.

When Jiang Lu crept into Lar's house, he had just found the large bamboo rat when Lar caught him on the spot.

Lal beat him up, tied him up, and left him tied up in a corner overnight.

The next morning, he was forced by Lar to go to the clan chief to demand an explanation.

"Chieftain, you must do me justice! This brat broke into my house to steal things in the middle of the night. He's wicked! This is disrespect for the clan rules, and he's malicious..."

Lal, a middle-aged single male in his forties, became increasingly agitated as he spoke in order to gain more benefits for himself, eventually collapsing to the ground in tears, attracting a large crowd of orcs to watch.

"Young man of the Jiang family, what else do you have to say?"

The chieftain's face was ashen. If it weren't for this brat's talent, he would have kicked him out of the tribe long ago.

"I...I didn't mean to. I was just too hungry and couldn't resist. If he wants any compensation, he can ask my sister."

Jiang Lu, with his bruised and swollen face, still acted self-righteously, which aroused the anger of many orcs.

"Stealing and not admitting wrongdoing? Does being hungry give you the right to steal?"

"Exactly, and you want your sister to pay compensation? Everyone knows your sister is barren. What can she possibly compensate? She's just a useless woman who can't have children."

"I think he's just spoiled by his sister. With that kind of attitude, he still wants to be the Holy Female's beast husband. What a shameless person he is!"

"..."

Hearing the accusations from the surrounding orcs, Jiang Lu's face flushed with anger. "I did nothing wrong. He had already promised to give me the big bamboo rat. It's just that my sister didn't go. Go and call my sister over. Let her keep you company for one night."

He still thinks it's Jiang Cha's fault. If she hadn't run away, he would have taken the bamboo rat meat to find Ruan Ruan long ago, instead of ending up in this state.

"Alright, stop arguing."

The chieftain said in a deep voice, "According to the clan rules, you must compensate Lal with double the amount of food and obtain his forgiveness. Otherwise, you can get out of the tribe on your own."

The reason why no one steals in a tribe even though there are no doors is because the tribe's rules are very strict, and few people would do such a thankless and foolish thing.

Jiang Lu was indeed spoiled by the ginger tea he used to drink.

Even at this point, they still haven't realized their mistake.

Instead, he was crying and shouting, demanding that his sister come and help him pay compensation.
