Chapter 20 Salt Lake Trip
After climbing another mountain, the group thought they would be going downhill, but instead found themselves on a flat plain.
In the middle of the plain is a salt lake as flat as a mirror, with a jewel-like green surface surrounded by snow-like salt, looking like soft cotton.
Bathed in the glow of the setting sun, the entire sky and the salt lake merge into one, creating a scene resembling a fairyland.
All three were stunned by the sight before them.
"Wow!" Shu Ning exclaimed.
Although she had seen it on TV before, seeing it in person was a completely different experience.
"That's it, that's it."
Shu Ning jumped down and excitedly ran towards the salt lake.
Xuan Lin was surprised to find that there was actually a lake here; he had never noticed it before.
But this lake was completely different from any he had seen before.
The surroundings were lifeless and deathly silent.
He looked at her with a complicated expression as he recalled the misunderstanding he had just caused her.
Xiao Chong was also surprised. Although he believed Shu Ning's words, he was still shocked when he actually saw it with his own eyes.
Shu Ning picked up a small pinch of salt with her hand and tasted it; it was indeed real salt.
She wants to use teleportation now, but she doesn't know if she can teleport back from this far away.
"007, can I transport this salt back with my current level?" Shu Ning asked in her mind.
"No, this needs an upgrade," the system replied.
Shu Ning hesitated; she didn't want to level up yet.
"Friendly reminder: You can store it in your storage space first and retrieve it later when you get back."
"Yes, how come I didn't think of that?"
"What is the maximum amount of salt my storage space can hold right now?"
10 tons.
"That's enough," Shu Ning said with satisfaction.
He then used his mind to store 10 tons of salt from the bottom of the water into his spatial storage.
...
Done!
"What are you doing?" Xiao Chong walked to her side and looked at her in confusion.
"ah--"
Shu Ning was startled by the sudden sound, lost her footing, and was about to fall into the salt lake.
Seeing this, Xiao Chong quickly pulled her back.
Then, losing her balance, Shu Ning fell into Xiao Chong's arms.
Xiao Chong looked at Shu Ning, who was still in shock, in his arms, and a tenderness flashed in his eyes.
He patted her on the back and asked, "Are you alright?"
"No...it's nothing," Shu Ning said.
"By the way, Xiao Chong, you should try some."
Looking at the crystal particles in Shu Ning's hand, he frowned slightly, but still took them and put them in his mouth.
He then immediately spat it out.
"What is this?" he asked, frowning.
"This is salt."
"Salt?"
"That's right, this stuff has a lot of uses. It can be used as a food seasoning and for marinating food. I'll explain the specific methods to you later."
Xiao Chong looked surprised as he listened to Shu Ning's eloquent explanation.
When did she learn these things?
Shu Ning looked around and found that there was nothing there.
"It seems that this lake has not been polluted and the water is safe to drink directly."
However, it's better to be safe than sorry; we'll still need to deal with it when we get back.
Xuan Lin felt inexplicably irritated as he watched the two of them hugging so tightly and talking so enthusiastically.
"It's so late, aren't you going home yet?"
He went over and urged them on, trying to interrupt their conversation.
Shu Ning looked around and saw that it was now completely dark, and the salt lake under the moonlight presented a different kind of scenery.
They just can't stay here any longer.
"Let's go back."
"Mm," Xiao Chong replied, then picked up Shu Ning and got up to go back.
"Xiao Chong, it's so late, are we still able to get back?" Shu Ning asked, clinging limply to his back.
She was tired and felt drowsy.
“Okay,” Xiao Chong replied.
After hearing the man's affirmative answer, she couldn't resist the drowsiness and fell asleep.
After a while.
Just as the group arrived near the Black Bear Clan's territory, they were suddenly surrounded by the Black Bears who had been lying in ambush.
"Hahahaha, big brother, see? I told you I'd seen them today!" a black bear with a face covered in black grime laughed.
“Yes, second brother, you were right after all. They really will pass through here. Looks like we’ll have wolf meat to eat today!” said another, larger and darker black bear.
"Big brother, look! That chubby girl on his back looks delicious!"
Xiao Chong's face was gloomy. After exchanging a glance and nodding with Xuan Lin, he took a few steps back, intending to break through the black bear's encirclement.
"Big brother, they're trying to escape!"
"Where do you think you're going!"
As Xiao Chong stood up and jumped, one of the black bears stretched out its sharp claws and grabbed Shu Ning's hair.
Shu Ning was immediately lifted into the air and then fell heavily to the ground, her hair being tightly gripped by the black bear.
"ah--"
The intense pain suddenly woke Shu Ning from her sleep.
Having broken free from the black bear's encirclement, Xiao Chong felt a sudden emptiness behind him, followed by the sound of Shu Ning's painful screams. His heart skipped a beat.
The veins on his forehead bulged, his face was terrifyingly gloomy, and his eyes seemed to be burning with flames, making it impossible for anyone to look directly at him.
Xuan Lin also heard Shu Ning's voice. He frowned, turned around and saw her kneeling on the ground, her hair being pulled, and her head tilted backward in a miserable state.
A sinister and ruthless glint appeared in Xuan Lin's eyes.
They immediately rushed into the group of black bears and killed them one by one with deadly force.
Blood splattered everywhere, and the scene was chaotic.
The blood splattering in the air was indistinguishable from whose.
Just as they turned back to fight the black bear, they heard Shu Ning's voice, trembling with tears, scream: "Don't worry about me, run!"
The two were taken aback, but continued their fierce fight with the black bear.
She had intended for them to leave first, and then she would use teleportation, but to her surprise, the two of them not only didn't leave, but instead fought even more fiercely with the black bears.
I can't worry about that now, I immediately close my eyes and imagine the direction of the wolf tribe.
In an instant, the group of people who had just been fighting with the black bear suddenly appeared in a forest.
The forest was eerily quiet at night.
This should be the forest we have to pass through to get back to the wolf clan.
Shu Ning guessed.
Xiao Chong and Xuan Lin were instantly stunned. Weren't they just in the black bear herd?
Where did they all go?
He looked wary.
Then they searched for Shu Ning.
"I'm here."
Shu Ning's back was burning from the black bear's sharp claws, so she found a rock to sit on and rest for a while.
The two people who heard her voice breathed a sigh of relief at the same time.
Then, following the sound, they saw Shu Ning with her hair disheveled and her clothes tattered.
The two people who noticed what appeared to be a small pool of blood on her back became unsettled.
They walked up to Shu Ning at the same time.
Seeing the blood gushing from the scratches on Shu Ning's back, the two men frowned and simultaneously tore off their animal hides to cover her wounds.
Shu Ning wondered why their expressions were so strange.
All she did was mess up her hair.
Only after the animal hide was covered on her back did Shu Ning feel the intense pain coming from behind.
She turned around and looked behind her, only to see a pool of blood on the ground.
She thought the flowing sensation meant her period had started.
I didn't expect it to be the back.
"Bear with it..." Xiao Chong said.
"You hold her down while I go find some herbs."
"Um."
After Xiao Chong left.
Only Shu Ning and Xuan Lin remained.
Shu Ning's back was in so much pain that she was sweating on her forehead and her lips were pale.
This pain is even worse than my period!
"Th...thank you."
"Don't speak."
