Chapter 206 Overcoming Inner Thorns
Despite his words, Shu Ning still felt uneasy. She immediately asked in her mind, "007, can you check how Yi Yuan and the others are doing? Are they alright?"
"Don't worry, host, they're fine," 007 said.
Hearing this, he breathed a sigh of relief. "So where are they now?"
"Right where you just appeared."
"ah?"
Shu Ning didn't understand. She recalled the damp, dark place from earlier, which was extremely quiet and seemed devoid of any sign of life.
She clearly didn't see anyone else besides the man in front of her.
"What's wrong?" Huang Ying cut off a piece of beast meat with his knife, then put it in his mouth and chewed it elegantly.
Seeing Shu Ning's shocked expression, Tong Mou asked with doubt, "Don't you believe me?"
"No..." Shu Ning said, coming back to her senses.
"Okay, eat up. I'll take you back after you finish," Huang Ying said as he cut some meat for himself.
"You need fire, right?" he said, getting up and going out to imitate how wolves start fires.
"Wait, no need," Shu Ning called out.
Hearing him say he would take her back, she thought of what the system had said.
This put her in a very difficult position; she needed to figure out a way to get him to agree to let her go back to where she had just been.
"Are you busy later?" Shu Ning asked.
"Hmm... Tsk, why are you asking this?" Huangying sat back down and continued eating.
"If you have something to do, go ahead and do it. I can go back by myself," Shu Ning said, offering a reason.
"That won't do. If you die in my Lion Clan, wouldn't I become the culprit? Then your beastmen will come looking for trouble, and the Lion Clan will have no choice but to push me out under pressure." Huang Ying said seriously, but his tone was casual.
"You just said I was good to you, and now you're repaying kindness with enmity so quickly."
"It's okay, no one will find out, and I won't betray you," Shu Ning said with a sincere look in her eyes.
“Hmm…” Huang Ying’s eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at her again.
"You're so insistent, is there something you're up to?" He looked at her casually, as if he knew everything.
"Don't overthink it, I just don't like to bother others," Shu Ning said.
"Host, Yiyuan and the others have already left the Lion Clan."
007's voice suddenly rang in her mind, and Shu Ning's worried mood instantly brightened.
"Since you're so eager to send me away, then send me out of the Lion Clan now," she said, raising her eyebrows and speaking in a light tone.
Seeing her change so quickly, Huang Ying's brown eyes flashed with surprise, but he quickly returned to normal.
“Okay,” he said, then stood up.
Shu Ning put on her hat and followed him.
"Wait." He suddenly stopped and turned around.
Upon hearing his voice, Shu Ning immediately took two steps back, and this time she didn't bump into him again.
Huang Ying saw Shu Ning retreating but didn't say anything. He simply walked to a table to the side and picked up some beast meat.
"Take these with you, eat some if you get hungry on the way back." He said as he wrapped several packets of meat in leaves.
Shu Ning was surprised to find that this man was actually quite thoughtful beneath his cold exterior. She took the bags of meat he handed her and stored them in her spatial storage.
"Thank you." After finishing, she looked up at him and waited for him to continue.
Huang Ying saw with his own eyes that the thing in her hand was gone, and a look of surprise appeared in his eyes.
After a moment, he came to his senses. "Hmm, at least he knows how to express gratitude. Not bad."
"Let's go," he said, turning back to his seat.
When Shu Ning emerged from the cave again, the sun was already a little bigger than before.
Along the way, many lion-beastmen from the lion tribe were already out working.
Some were laughing and chatting, some were focused on their own tasks, and others were playing with the griffins with their children...
Looking at the peaceful and serene scene under the sunlight, Shu Ning began to fall into deep thought.
What crime have those ordinary lion-beastmen who lived happily in their tribes committed that they must suffer the hatred and ambitions of others and lose their happy homes?
If it's the leaders' fault, then just punish them.
Thinking about their purpose in coming here, it was nothing more than the lion chieftain and the beastmen who supported them having too great ambitions, wanting her life in order to fulfill their endless desires.
She was searching in her mind for ways to reduce the damage.
Huang Ying, who was walking ahead, noticed that her pace was getting slower and slower, so he stopped and waited for her for a while.
Shu Ning looked up at the man beside her, and remembering the system's reminder, she had a rough idea of a plan in mind.
"Shadow, how does your father treat you?" she asked as she walked.
Hearing Shu Ning's words, Ying paused, her eyes darkening, before speaking softly, "It's fine."
After saying that, he continued walking.
“Oh…” Shu Ning replied, then pretended to be regretful and said, “I have a friend whose father doesn’t treat him as well as your father does.”
“Is that so?” Huangying said.
"Yes, his father valued his eldest son the most, giving him the best of everything. He thought his eldest son was particularly ruthless, just like he was when he was young."
"But the youngest son wasn't so lucky. Just because his personality wasn't like his father's, he wasn't valued by his father from a young age, and was often ridiculed and despised by other people in the clan. Sometimes he was even beaten by them. Later, they grew up, and their father grew old..."
Upon hearing this, Huang Ying lowered his head slightly, as the story reminded him of his entire childhood.
After a moment of silence, he asked, "What happened to them afterward?"
"Later, when his father was about to die, he left all the resources to his eldest son, while the younger son was assigned to a remote and barren place, just so that he would not have the resources to compete with his eldest son."
“Perhaps he didn’t want to go against his brother in the first place?” Huang Ying said, his brows furrowing slightly.
"Yes, the youngest son really didn't want to go against his brother, but he still ended up dying at his brother's hands."
"Why?" Huang Ying asked, slightly surprised.
"Because his brother had no capable descendants to inherit his legacy, while his brother's children were all more capable and outstanding than his brother's children."
"His brother was worried that his children's status was in jeopardy, so in the end he turned the knife on his brother's neck, and even his brother's children were killed. His brother died in remorse and tears."
Upon hearing this, Huang Ying's eyes darkened. Since his mother's death, he had no longer been favored by his father.
This is because his personality was not as bold as his father's, and both of them took pride in expanding their own territories.
He had tried to persuade them many times with earnest words, but they never listened to him.
In the past, it was one thing to expand the territory of the surrounding tribes, but now they are even extending their reach to other tribes, especially the Crimson Tiger tribe.
Moreover, their ambitions have grown even greater, and they frequently launch attacks on their own initiative.
Every time they went out, a large group of orcs would come out, but only a handful would return. They simply didn't care about the lives of the orcs in their tribe.
Thinking of this, his eyes became deep and sharp.
“Your story is fascinating,” he said to Shu Ning.
