Chapter 24 Treatment

Chapter 24 Treatment

"Running so fast," Shu Ning exclaimed.

Never mind that for now, she used her last teleportation of the day to return to the cave.

Looking at the pile of materials outside the cave, she took a deep breath and buried herself in her work.

First, use a bone knife to remove the melon seeds, and then dry them in the sun along with the black fruit, peppercorns, and fruit shells. Then, cut off the tree roots and dry them together.

Next, a fire was lit, and an animal skull was used as a pot to boil water. Finally, all the dried herbs were put in according to the proportions in the book and boiled.

Shu Ning was exhausted after doing all this; all she had to do now was wait for it to be ready.

Hopefully this pot can withstand being heated...

It seems we'll have to make something real next time.

At this moment, wisps of smoke rose outside her cave, and the air was filled with the smell of herbs.

Looking at the herbs in the pot, emitting a rich medicinal aroma, she relaxed and said, "It's done!"

She had just ladled out the medicine when the pot cracked open in the middle and fell into the fire.

Shu Ning was shocked. Luckily, she scooped it out in time, otherwise all her efforts for the day would have been in vain.

Outside Aunt Yin's house—

It was already evening, and the sun was about to set, as if telling all living beings that a certain life would disappear tonight.

“Sigh, let’s prepare for the funeral. I’m going to find the High Priest…” Atin’s father, Raine, said in a low voice.

"A-Ting isn't dead yet, and you're in such a hurry to hold a funeral for him!" Xue Yin cried out hoarsely.

"Do you think I wanted this? But look at him, he's almost dead. Who in the tribe is so sick as to live to see the next day?" Renn said desperately, his expression pained and helpless.

Orcs in the tribe who frequently exhibit these symptoms are mostly children, while those with severe cases like Atin are basically beyond saving.

"Waaaah... my poor child..."

"Beast God... save my poor child, he's only fourteen years old..."

Xueyin turned and knelt outside the cave, devoutly praying to the setting sun, repeatedly saying things like she was willing to give her life for her child's.

She prayed that God would take care of her child.

The night wind blew by, and the only response she received was the rustling sound of the forest in front of the cave.

Quiet and desolate.

Yes, there are no gods in this world.

She knew it wasn't possible, but she still hoped for a miracle.

"Aunt Yin!" Shu Ning suddenly called out.

At this moment, bathed in the setting sun, she seemed to be inlaid with golden light.

It was as if a god had descended.

She appeared carefully carrying a bowl of herbal medicine.

“I prepared medicine for Ating, and it was formulated according to his condition.”

"Shu Ning..." Her heart was only for her child, and she couldn't even care less about her prejudice against Shu Ning.

"It's no use, the witch doctor said there's no hope, but thank you for your kindness anyway," Xueyin sighed.

"Aunt Yin, please let me try. Maybe it will work. We shouldn't give up any hope of Ah Ting living," Shu Ning said.

“Let her give it a try,” Renn said.

He didn't believe she could cure the child; whether she was cured or not made no difference to him.

"Sigh, go ahead." Xueyin relented, got up, and led Shu Ning inside.

Shu Ning entered the cave and looked at the dying boy in front of her. His breathing was extremely weak, and he was incredibly fragile, as if he would die at any moment.

She took a deep breath and forced the medicine down his throat.

"Cough cough cough... cough cough..."

He was so weak that he couldn't even open his mouth, and the medicine he was supposed to put in his mouth spilled out.

"That won't do," Shu Ning frowned.

You can only use your hands to pry open his mouth and then slowly pour it in.

"Ah Ting, be good, open your mouth, this is medicine, it can cure your illness," she comforted softly.

Shu Ning sighed, wiped his mouth, and waited a while before pouring it in.

Now we can finally feed it in.

Her brow relaxed, she breathed a sigh of relief, and continued to feed him patiently.

The two people beside them watched with a mixture of tension and anticipation, but they had already prepared for the worst.

After giving her the medicine, Shu Ning looked at A Ting nervously for a while. She knew the medicine wouldn't take effect so quickly, so she got up to go back.

Seeing that A-Ting was still pale and Shu-Ning was about to leave, the hope that had been rekindled in Raine and Xue-Yin was extinguished once again.

"Thank you, Ningning, for still thinking of our Ating. We have no complaints even if we can't save him. We appreciate your kindness," Xueyin said sadly.

"The drug's effect probably won't be that quick. Let's see again tomorrow."

Shu Ning wasn't sure if it would work, and was worried that they would really bury him tomorrow.

"Will it really work?" Xueyin asked excitedly when she heard that Shu Ning hadn't given a death sentence.

"I'm not entirely sure either. Keep an eye on things tonight. If there's nothing else, I'll head back now. Remember to leave someone here tonight to keep a close eye on things."

"Okay, we'll take good care of him, thank you."

"You're welcome." With that, Shu Ning went back.

Exhausted, she took off her shoes, lay down, and fell asleep immediately.

The next morning.

As soon as Shu Ning opened the door, she saw Xue Yin standing outside.

"Ningning, Ating is awake!"

Upon seeing Shu Ning, she looked tired but also very excited, and said...

"Really? That's great!" Shu Ning was also very happy to hear the good news.

"Here, take this quickly. It's a wild pheasant that Ating's father just caught this morning."

After saying that, he handed the prepared pheasant meat to Shu Ning.

"This..." Shu Ning said shyly.

"Take this, it's nothing. You saved A-Ting's life, you are our family's great benefactor."

"Hehe..." Shu Ning was a little embarrassed by what he said.

"Then I won't be polite."

"Don't mention it, don't be so polite with me. If you need any help in the future, just come to us," Xueyin said.

"Ating just woke up and still needs to be taken care of, so I'll head back now."

"Yes, Aunt Yin, you should go back now and take care of yourself," Shu Ning said, looking at her dark circles.

"Okay, fine." He then quickly left.

After watching Xueyin leave, Shu Ning looked at the pheasant in her hand, her eyes darting around, and suddenly had an idea: she would make beggar's chicken.

Rub the chicken with the leftover peppercorns and salt from yesterday, then wrap it layer by layer with leaves, and finally coat it with a layer of wet mud before putting it in the fire to simmer.

She was eagerly awaiting the delicious chicken when she suddenly heard a sound that ruined her good mood:

"Host, please accept the new task: complete the kiss with any beast husband within the next 7 days."

Shu Ning's lips twitched violently; what was bound to happen had finally arrived.

She's been so busy these past few days that she almost forgot she still had a mission to complete; she's almost settled into life here.

She only wanted to maintain a proper distance from the other beastmen, and to treat them with respect.

"Any one? Including Xiao Chong?"

She knew it wasn't included, but she still asked tentatively.

"Not included," the system replied coldly.

Sure enough, the most likely target for romance wasn't in the romance quest.

If it's not in the walkthrough quests, why is it a hidden quest?

What was she supposed to do?

It seems I need to analyze which one is most likely to be won over.

Xuan Lin: This is over.

Mo Li: Although he seemed less hostile towards me after I accompanied him back to the Jiao Clan, who knows if it was just because she saved his elder brother.

This will be put on hold for now.

Xuanmo: He saved her a few days ago and even brought her food afterward. He was probably just grateful to her and didn't have any romantic feelings for her. He has an unpredictable personality.

That's something to consider.

Jin Tong: We haven't spent much time together. Although I helped her yesterday, the chances of success are smaller compared to others.

This one also passed.

Yi Yuan: By the way, where's Yi Yuan? It's been a long time since I've seen him. He used to bring her food, but I haven't seen him lately.

It seems I'll have to go find him after breakfast.
