Chapter 56 Soul-Soothing Grass

Chapter 56 Soul-Soothing Grass

"It's a bit chilly today, don't wear so little."

Seeing that she was only wrapped in an animal skin skirt, Mo Li went back into the cave and got her a new fur cloak to put on her.

"Yes, thank you, Mo Li."

Shu Ning looked at the garment; it felt comfortable against the skin, lightweight yet warm, and the fur was inlaid with sparkling dark blue scales.

Each piece reminded her of the sea she had seen that day; it was so beautiful that she couldn't help but marvel.

Suddenly remembering something, she looked up at him in surprise.

Could these be his scales?

Mo Li was so captivated by her appearance after she changed into the new clothes that he became completely absorbed in watching her.

The dark blue cloak accentuated her fair complexion, making her even more charming with her delicate and lively features. However, what was the reason behind her alternating expressions of happiness and surprise?

Mo Li looked at the surprise on her face and then chuckled.

"Don't worry, it wasn't plucked from me."

Shu Ning breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this.

"It was shed."

It was his mother who saved it up for him when he was a child, sewing it up so that he could have a female in the future.

Upon hearing this, Shu Ning looked up in shock.

"Does it hurt?" she asked worriedly.

"Why does it hurt?"

He patted her head.

“This was specially prepared by my mother for her future daughter-in-law, but now it is yours.”

Hearing this reminded Shu Ning of the kindness her mother, Cang Lan, had shown her, and she felt grateful.

"I am so lucky to have such a good mother-in-law. Thank you, Mo Li, and thank you, Mother."

"No need to thank me, it was yours to begin with."

"Okay, then I won't be polite," Shu Ning said happily.

She put it on and swayed gently from side to side, but suddenly felt a chill and quickly stopped moving.

The weather outside is gloomy today, and strong winds blow from time to time.

Shu Ning suddenly remembered the medicinal herbs and cured meat she had dried in front of the cave.

"Mo Li, I have to go back first," Shu Ning said.

"Um."

Mo Li was deeply moved as she watched her departing figure.

Upon returning to the cave, Shu Ning immediately brought in all the things that had been drying outside.

A storm is brewing, and she can't let her precious pets get wet.

After finishing, she sat on the bed to rest.

Just then, she heard a knock on the door.

Is Shu Ning there?

She got up and opened the door.

"Mu Ran?"

"Luo Ci?" Another person appeared behind him.

Shu Ning looked at them strangely, her expression a mixture of amusement and something else.

"Why are you here?"

"We have some news for you," Mu Ran said.

Shu Ning invited them in to talk.

"What is it, Mu Ran?" she asked.

Mu Ran checked that there was no one else in her cave, then moved closer to Shu Ning, and Luo Ci followed suit.

"Shu Ning, Mu Yu has been making moves lately." He whispered, then looked at Shu Ning with a serious expression.

Shu Ning was confused, not understanding what he was referring to, but she guessed it was probably related to the election.

“Yes, she’s been making quite a few moves lately, you should be careful,” Luo Ci said.

Shu Ning looked at Luo Ci with a questioning gaze. It was one thing for Mu Ran to be close to her, since she had a good relationship with Xiao Chong, but wasn't Luo Ci the subordinate of the ice-cold-faced man? How could he...?

"Hey, hey, hey! Don't look at me like that. Even though my boss is Xuan Lin, work is work. How can work compare to our friendship, right, Mu Ran?"

Luo Ci noticed that she was looking at him with distrust.

"Besides, our boss doesn't need to get involved in this."

"Mm." Mu Ran nodded.

"I'm not doubting our friendship, but is it really okay for you to tell me about her actions?"

“What’s there to be afraid of? Compared to what she did, it’s nothing at all,” Luo Ci said.

"Oh? What is it?" Shu Ning asked curiously.

“She’s secretly trying to win over all the top-ranking orcs in our tribe, regardless of gender,” Mu Ran emphasized the last four words.

Shu Ning wasn't particularly shocked to hear this; it was just a common tactic for winning votes.

She was surprised to find her in such a hurry.

"So how did she win them over?"

“She promised them benefits if she won the election,” Luo Ci said.

What benefits were promised?

"She didn't say anything specific, just that you'd all get your share of the benefits."

"How did you know that?" Shu Ning wondered how they knew such details.

"Have you forgotten? There's also An Liang. Although he's Mu Yu's subordinate, he's on your side too," Luo Ci said.

"Why are you telling me this? Isn't she good enough? I see that she cares a lot about the tribe. Wouldn't it be better if she won the election?"

“It’s not that we’re saying she’s bad, it’s just that…” Luo Ci hesitated.

"What is it?" Shu Ning looked at him.

"If that's the case, wouldn't her power be even greater? In the future, all the beastmen of the tribe would have to listen to her, and wouldn't our freedom be even more restricted?"

"I'm afraid she won't be able to follow you anymore, judging from her current hostility towards you," Luo Ci said with his wolf ears drooping.

“Yes, if she wins the election, judging from what she said at the bonfire party last time, she might even snatch Xuan Lin away,” Mu Ran said.

"Ah! No, this is too terrifying." Luo Ci couldn't sit still after hearing that she might be living with her boss from now on.

"Shu Ning, you must be strong, you must save me!" He turned down at the corners of his mouth, feigning grievance and tears.

"Otherwise, we won't be able to play happily anymore..."

Shu Ning was amused by his expression. "It's not that serious. You guys are thinking too badly of her."

"Compared to her, am I not even worse? I used to beat and scold my beastman husband all the time, and I even stole beastmen from outside."

"No, no, no, don't think like that. I don't care, you're the best!" Luo Ci said.

"You used to be quite domineering, but you've changed for the better lately. You not only treat your beast mates well, but you've also brought so many good things to our wolf clan, making our lives better. This is something we can all see," Mu Ran affirmed.

"Mmm-hmm-hmm!" Luo Ci nodded frantically.

"Shh!" Mu Ran made a shushing gesture; he heard noises outside.

After a long while, as the footsteps drew closer, they smelled a familiar scent.

"It's me."

Hearing that it was Anliang's voice, he breathed a sigh of relief and went out to open the door for him.

"So, so, what's she up to now?" Luo Ci asked after seeing him.

"Her next step might be to go find Xuan Lin!"

"Ah!" Luo Ci was taken aback.

"What do you want with him?" Shu Ning asked.

“I heard her tell Shi Ye to go find the Soul-Sucking Grass.”

Hearing this, Luo Ci was terrified. "She's going to use force!"

"What is Su Hun Cao?" Shu Ning asked curiously; the name itself didn't sound like a good thing.

"It's something that makes you feel weak all over, but it's strong in that area!" Mu Ran frowned and said seriously.

"I never imagined she could be so shameless," Luo Ci said indignantly.

"Anliang, is this true?" Shu Ning asked.

"I'm not sure, but Night Eater has already set off."
