Meng Yuqing was awakened by a burst of fragrance. When she opened her eyes, she saw Xuan turned into a human form and sitting beside the fire roasting animal meat. The sun had risen very high, and it was estimated that it was almost noon.
"Why didn't you wake me up? Didn't you say you had something to do today? It's almost noon." Meng Yuqing said a little embarrassedly after taking the meat handed over by Xuan.
"Don't worry, you went to bed too late at night. It won't be a problem if you sleep a little longer." Xuan waved his hand indifferently.
"What about you? Why don't you take a break? Is your wound okay?" Meng Yuqing put down the barbecue and moved closer to Xuan to check on his wound. Xuan also followed his movements.
The wounds recovered quite well, especially the areas that had been treated with medicine, which obviously looked better than those that had not. The wounds that had not been treated with medicine were still a little red and swollen, but it also showed that the orcs' recovery ability was really good.
"I have to find some hemostatic herbs to apply to the other wounds. They look a bit inflamed," Meng Yuqing said with a frown.
"It's okay, they're just minor wounds. They'll heal in a couple of days. Medicine is very precious. If I find it, I want to keep it and bring it back to the tribe."
Hearing Xuan's words, Meng Yuqing paused slightly, lowered his head and asked the system in his mind while taking the action of picking up the barbecue.
"Are herbs rare in this world?"
"No, there are many herbs, but the orcs don't know them."
"Xuan mentioned Wu yesterday. What does Wu represent here?" Thinking of the conversation with Xuan last night, Meng Yuqing asked his own question.
"A tribe's wise man, or rather, the recorder of the tribe's experience, is the one who knows all the tribe's accumulated knowledge and selects successors to teach and pass on the knowledge. Herbal medicine is something only shamans understand, but it's passed down orally, so the inheritance is easily broken. Different tribes have different experiences, and the things they pass down are different."
"Hmm? Doesn't it involve metaphysics?" Meng Yuqing's eyes lit up.
"Not involved." At this point, the system's already emotionless voice turned even colder, leaving Meng Yuqing bewildered. Had something offended the system? Or did the system simply dislike supernatural things? It felt like a firmly scientific system, after all! But time travel itself was inherently unscientific!
He silently complained about the system in his mind, but did not continue to ask the system other things. Instead, he thought that if witchcraft only involved knowledge, he might be able to take this as a direction.
Soon, the meat in his hand was finished. Meng Yuqing wiped his mouth and followed Xuan out of the cave. The body of the shadow beast was placed not far from the cave entrance. It seemed that something had been smeared on its body, especially on the wounds. The pungent smell of blood from last night was gone.
After circling the shadow beast, I found that it was a circle larger than Xuan, with gray-black fur, claws as sharp as knives, and fangs longer than palms. It looked extremely ferocious.
Xuan brought over many vines as thick as his wrists, fiddled with the shadow beast's body, tied up its limbs and tail close to its trunk, then changed into a big black panther and tried to carry the shadow beast on his back. Meng Yuqing helped him secure it with vines. Xuan walked a few laps with the shadow beast on his back to get used to it, nodded with satisfaction, and changed back into human form.
Seeing that there were still quite a few vines left after he had dealt with the shadow beast, Meng Yuqing started to think. Back when he was at home, he'd seen his grandmother weave hemp rope into bags to hold larger items. He looked down at himself and thought, "I think I can be considered a large... item..."
"Xuan, these vines are no longer needed, right? I want to make something with them," Meng Yuqing said, pointing at the vines.
"No need, you can use it. But what are you going to make with it?" Xuan heard Meng Yuqing say that he wanted to make something with vines, so he walked over and squatted with him with a curious look on his face.
"Weave a sack."
"Sack? What is that?" Xuan looked confused.
"It's used to store things. You can put things in it and take them away easily," Meng Yuqing explained while studying the vines.
"What are you packing?" Xuan looked towards the cave, a little confused. There was nothing in the cave worth taking back. If it was food, there was no need. He could hunt at any time.
"No, I'm not loading things, ah! No, it's not right. It's not right either." Meng Yuqing was so angry that he scratched his head frantically with both hands. How could he say it was wrong?
"It's me, not someone else."
"Why should I pretend?" Xuan looked at him in shock.
"Put me in it and you carry the bag. I always feel a little stuffy when you hold my clothes in your mouth." Meng Yuqing tugged at his clothes and felt a little worried. He hadn't taken a shower for several days and his clothes were very dirty. He even felt a little disgusted with himself, not to mention letting Xuan hold them in his mouth. Moreover, it would take 5 days to get to the tribe. He was worried that if he kept holding the clothes in his mouth, his clothes would not be able to hold up. This was the only set of clothes he had before he could go back, so he had better keep them well and leave them as a souvenir.
Xuan nodded as if he understood and said to him
"I can help!"
Xuan, who actively participated, took his own task and stood three meters away from Meng Yuqing, holding one end of a vine. He squatted there with a serious face, waiting for the next instruction.
Resisting the urge to rub Xuan's head, Meng Yuqing began to direct Xuan and himself to weave sacks together.
The process wasn't smooth. He hadn't seen his grandmother for a long time, and he didn't remember the process clearly. He made several mistakes and had to take it apart again. Meng Yuqing was a little annoyed, but fortunately Xuan was very patient. He did everything Meng Yuqing said, and when he made a mistake, he would honestly take it apart and continue working without any impatience. This greatly soothed Meng Yuqing's irritability.
