Chapter 1: Immediately After Transmigrating, I Was Sent to the Countryside

The train station was packed with people. Xie Yuyao spent a long time trying to decipher the cacophony of loudspeakers before finally hearing the announcement: "Educated youth from Anhe County, please report here!"

After registering and verifying the information, the person in charge of the educated youth office told everyone, "Don't wander around. We're waiting for the evening train. Be sure to gather here at 5 p.m.

Xie Yuyao sat on the steps and waited for several hours until the train finally arrived at 6 p.m.

This was a freight train, and a carriage had been specially set aside to pick them up.

A chorus of wails erupted from the crowd. People from the educated youth office, holding loudspeakers, urged everyone to demonstrate their revolutionary spirit of not fearing hardship or fatigue.

As darkness fell, some workers brought out headlamps to provide light for everyone. The group lined up their bedding along the walls of the carriage and then sat on the bedding with their backs against the carriage.

The train was shaking so badly that it made my back go numb.

The girl with short, ear-length hair on the left suddenly spoke up: "Why are you crying? We're going to the vast countryside to receive re-education from the poor and lower-middle peasants; we should be full of passion!"

Xie Yuyao followed her gaze and saw the girl diagonally opposite her sobbing. Hearing the accusations, she buried her head in her knees, her shoulders trembling.

"Why are you still crying? That's not a proper attitude..."

"Alright! Stop talking." It's not like a cicada, why keep chirping?

Xie Yuyao silenced the accusations and turned her gaze to the person diagonally opposite her. "Are you feeling unwell? Or are you homesick?"

If I don't give a good reason, this person next to me will start rambling on and on.

The girl diagonally opposite whispered, "My stomach hurts..."

The girl with short, ear-length hair immediately softened her gaze. "So you weren't feeling well. I misunderstood you. I sincerely apologize. I still have some hot water here; let me pour you some."

"Thank you!" The girl across from me wiped away her tears, looked up, and pulled out an enamel mug with the words "Serve the People" printed on it.

Xie Yuyao closed her eyes to rest and stopped looking.

That night was the hardest to get through; few people could fall asleep.

Just as Xie Yuyao was about to suffocate, the train began to slow down noticeably.

A cheer erupted from the crowd; they had arrived in the county town.
