Upon learning of Zhao Honghui's return date, Xie Yuyao asked Director Zhu for several days off.
On the first day, Xie Yuyao took Zhao Honghui to see a renowned doctor at the Beijing Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. As the doctor explained the patient's condition, her heart ached.
Zhao Honghui secretly took her hand, offering silent comfort.
After leaving the hospital, the two went straight back to the Ye family home. Xie Yuyao used the spiritual spring water to brew medicine and stew soup, doing everything she could to help Zhao Honghui recover.
The two of them didn't go out that day except for a trip to the hospital.
The two of them spent time with Grandpa Ye, drinking tea and playing chess, and the happy time passed in a flash.
The next day, Zhao Honghui suggested, "Shall we go out for a walk?"
Xie Yuyao nodded. She had been in Beijing for so long but hadn't had a proper chance to explore. Many tourist attractions from later generations now had different appearances, but she hadn't been particularly interested in them before.
That's why the most important thing about traveling isn't the scenery, but the people around you.
Now that I'm with the right people, even just strolling around town makes me happy.
However, Zhao Honghui had already made preparations in advance, taking Xie Yuyao straight to the Central Academy of Drama.
This is one of the places suitable for couples that he learned about yesterday after consulting with Ye Xingchang.
When we arrived at the entrance, it was already packed with people. A large poster on one side read "Red Detachment of Women".
Xie Yuyao smiled at Zhao Honghui: "I didn't expect you, this old-fashioned guy, to be so fashionable."
"How am I old-fashioned?" Zhao Honghui asked with a light laugh.
Xie Yuyao's eyes darted around. "I can't quite put my finger on it, but that's just the feeling you give me."
She knew that it was Zhao Honghui's past attitude towards his parents and extended family that clashed with her values.
During this time, she repeatedly recalled every little detail of their past. The scene of his proposal seemed like it was just yesterday, but back then, she didn't feel that she couldn't live without Zhao Honghui.
The two hadn't even officially started dating yet, but they were already talking about marriage leave. She casually mentioned her three requirements, making it sound like a blind date in a modern marriage market.
They only talk about conditions, not feelings.
Looking back now, it all seems so awkward and stiff. If Zhao Honghui hadn't changed his mind and persisted in the relationship, the two might never have had a future together.
She accepted Zhao Honghui without hesitation after they agreed on the same point of view, and even set a wedding date in a short period of time.
He probably doesn't know about the annulment of the engagement yet, otherwise he would have brought it up with me long ago.
So, after she fell out with his family, what will he do? Will he be able to truly live a peaceful life together as a couple?
However, even if he can't get a perfect score, as long as he gets above the passing grade, he'll accept it.
More than any outsiders or affairs, she wanted Zhao Honghui, the lover she had lost and found again!
During those more than one hundred days and nights of isolation, Zhao Honghui thought about their past countless times. If he hadn't known that Yao Yao was still waiting for him to go back and get married, he wouldn't have been sure if he could have held on until Hui Zi found him in that harsh environment.
Xie Yuyao's every smile and frown became the source of his life. At that time, he made a vow that as long as he could walk out of the glacier alive, he would never be separated from Yaoyao for the rest of his life.
Now, when Xie Yuyao mentions the word "old-fashioned," he quickly recalls that major disagreement from back then. "Yaoyao, I was narrow-minded and inexperienced back then, so please don't take it to heart."
"We'll see how you do." Xie Yuyao giggled, tugged at his sleeve, and ushered him into the theater.
Xie Yuyao noticed that some people tried to buy tickets on-site, but there were no tickets left.
Afterwards, a short man approached the disappointed man and whispered something to him, then led him to a secluded corner.
I never expected that there would be scalping involved in watching a stage play. Aren't you afraid of being reported for speculation and profiteering?
Zhao Honghui had already gotten the tickets, and the two of them went straight into the queue.
Once inside, Xie Yuyao discovered that it truly lived up to its reputation as the Capital Grand Theatre, being quite similar to those of later generations. This caused Xie Yuyao to feel a sense of disorientation, as if time had been compressed at that moment, and she had been transported directly to the future.
"Yaoyao, what's wrong?" Zhao Honghui asked worriedly.
"It's okay to see some familiar things," Xie Yuyao smiled.
There are still differences; at the very least, the clothing and appearance of these audience members are not what they would have been in later generations.
If one day she really returns to her original world, will she be able to bring Zhao Honghui back with her?
The moment that thought crossed her mind, she immediately dismissed it.
One should not be too greedy. Being able to enjoy this life is already a blessing from heaven.
Not long after the two sat down, a group of young men and women came up to the empty seats not far away. One of them, a young man dressed in the style of the previous dynasty, whistled at Xie Yuyao, "Little sister, did you come alone? It's fate that we can sit in the same row to watch ballet. Let's go out and have some fun after the dance?"
Xie Yuyao took Zhao Honghui's hand, leaned on his shoulder, and then turned her head and smiled, "No thanks."
The young man looked at Zhao Honghui, but was so frightened by the cold and fierce aura in his eyes that he immediately shrank back.
My goodness, that look in his eyes is definitely not to be trifled with. He might even be a soldier. I can't afford to mess with him.
Xie Yuyao knew that they were the "playboys" Ye Yinan had mentioned. This group of people were generally idle and liked to invite members of the opposite sex out to have fun. In modern terms, they were delinquent youths who would go out in groups to wander around and date.
They were selective about the girls they approached; it wasn't just any girl they would go for.
First, one's background cannot be too humble, lest one have too little experience and cannot get along with others, and also to avoid too much entanglement in the future.
Secondly, one must be good-looking to have interest and to save face.
