Xie Yuyao looked at the man who was squatting on the ground, carefully butchering an old hen, and her heart was filled with unease.
A few minutes ago, Zhao Honghui returned to the educated youth compound with a bottle of liquor in one hand and a sack in the other.
When the sack was opened, everyone was stunned.
He deftly grabbed the thrashing hen, his eyes fixed intently on Xie Yuyao, and a smirk played on his lips. "Boil water and kill the chicken."
"......"
If Xie Yuyao still couldn't notice anything by this point, she would be far too oblivious.
"Brother, you're awesome!" Zhao Jianbin gave him a thumbs up and excitedly ran to the kitchen to get a cleaver and a large bowl.
The two brothers worked together to slaughter, pluck the feathers, and clean the animal.
Soon, the chicken was placed in a small pot on the coal stove, along with red dates, goji berries, ginger, scallions, and other seasonings, and it was stewed.
Afterwards, Xiao Hu brought over a bag of peanuts and edamame, which Zhang Hanqiao apparently sent from home.
Xie Yuyao invited him to eat with her, but he was probably told before he left that he should just deliver the food and run away.
Everyone peeled off the peanut shells together, fried the peanuts, and drank them with alcohol.
Wu Lihong was in charge of cooking this meal, while Xie Yuyao supplemented the recipe. With ample oil and ingredients, the six dishes and soup filled the room with fragrance.
Xie Yuyao laid out three bottles of Wuliangye liquor and asked with a smile, "Which one should we open first: the strong, light, or the rich, soy sauce flavor?"
"Any bottle will do, let's drink until we drop tonight!" Zhao Jianbin casually picked up a bottle, opened it, and filled the bottles for his male companions.
Xie Yuyao then took out the red wine and decanter, preparing to open the bottle.
"I'll open it." Zhao Honghui, who was sitting opposite her, stood up, reached out and took the wine bottle and decanter from her hand, twisted them a few times and pulled them open, then handed them back to her.
Xie Yuyao smiled and met his gaze for a second before taking the cup and pouring it for Wu Lihong and Yang Shumei.
Li Weidong and Zhao Jianbin took turns trying to get Zhao Honghui to drink.
Zhao Honghui welcomed all comers and was willing to play along to the end.
Chen Kai was only focused on cooking and didn't participate in any work. No matter how fragrant the liquor was, could it be more fragrant than the delicious white rice and chicken?
Xie Yuyao, Yang Shumei, and Wu Lihong sipped their red wine, chatting and laughing as they watched the men go back and forth.
As the drinking continued, Li Weidong was the first to collapse. He grabbed Zhao Jianbin's hand and said, slowly and deliberately, "Brother, I have to go. You have to hold on!"
"Don't worry, leave it to me!" Zhao Jianbin, who had a high alcohol tolerance, patted his Jianbin and asked Chen Kai to help him back to his room to rest.
In the following time, the two brothers, as if competing with each other, finished off all three large bottles of liquor they had bought, and even the Zhuyeqing liquor brought by Zhao Jianbin's family was completely gone.
"I'll go buy two more bottles." Zhao Jianbin stood up smugly, unwilling to accept that he hadn't managed to beat his older cousin.
Zhao Honghui pulled him to sit down, "Let's stop drinking here for today."
"No, I haven't had enough to drink yet!"
"Wait a moment, I'll go back to my room to get it." Xie Yuyao felt it was too impolite that the wine was gone before the banquet was over, so she left the table to go to the east room to get it.
Fortunately, she had the foresight to see that the last bottle of liquor had been opened, so she secretly activated her consciousness and poured the Wuliangye liquor she had stored in the space into a plastic bucket for future use.
A 5-jin (2.5 catties) plastic bucket was placed on the table, and Zhao Jianbin turned pale with fright, letting out a burp.
Zhao Honghui, however, stared at Xie Yuyao and chuckled softly.
Chen Kai, who was sitting next to him, couldn't help but laugh.
Xie Yuyao looked at them, puzzled. "What are you laughing at? Want more drinks?"
"Drink!" Zhao Jianbin, as if facing certain death, reached out to take the barrel of liquor.
Zhao Honghui took it from Xie Yuyao first, opened the lid and poured some for him.
The three girls, Yang Shumei and her brother, secretly wondered: Have these two brothers always been drinking like this?
“Yang Zhiqing, let’s have a drink.” Zhao Jianbin finally remembered the person in question, but then felt something was off, so he added, “You can use juice instead of alcohol.”
Yang Shumei didn't change her glass and drank a glass of red wine with him. Not being a strong drinker, she quickly became dizzy, her face turning bright red.
She pulled her ally and asked Xie Yuyao to drink with him, so Xie Yuyao boldly started a drinking contest with Zhao Jianbin, comparing red wine with white wine.
Zhao Honghui watched them clinking glasses and drinking, and for a moment he couldn't understand how things had turned out this way.
He, Chen Kai, and Wu Lihong tried to persuade them, but not only did they fail to stop them, they were also dragged into the mess.
In the end, everyone except Zhao Honghui was drunk.
Xie Yuyao propped her chin on one hand, leaned to the side, and said lazily, "Comrade Zhao Honghui, have you never been drunk before?"
"I'm a little drunk too." It's not the alcohol that makes people drunk; it's the state of mind that makes them drunk.
Zhao Honghui softened his icy demeanor and looked at her tenderly.
Upon hearing this, Xie Yuyao, for some reason, giggled.
At this moment, Ren Fei, who had been paying attention to the movements in the main room, came out. What she saw was a man and a woman sitting there, gazing at each other with deep affection.
Her heart ached, and she wished she could turn around and run away from the scene.
For some unknown reason, Jiang Yan also came out.
Unlike Ren Fei, who remained stunned, she greeted Zhao Honghui with a smile, "Comrade Zhao, are they all drunk?"
Xie Yuyao turned her head and saw that everyone else was already fast asleep on the table.
She stood up unsteadily. "I'll take them back to their room first."
"Sit down and rest for a bit." After saying that, Zhao Honghui looked at Jiang Yan and Ren Fei, "You two come and help them back to their rooms to rest."
“Okay!” Jiang Yan readily agreed, and together with Ren Fei, they helped Wu Lihong and Yang Shumei to the east room, while Bei Xiao helped on the kang (a heated brick bed).
On the male educated youth side, Xiang Wenshan and Yu Wenbo, who had the lowest profile, also came out and helped Chen Kai back to his room.
Zhao Honghui was clearing away the dishes and glasses when Jiang Yan stopped him, saying, "Comrade Zhao, I'll clean these up."
