Chapter 8 She's Lying

The county public security bureau welcomed a busload of passengers.

After understanding the situation, several police officers let the owner, the driver, Xie Yuyao, and Zhao Honghui go inside to give their statements, while the other passengers waited outside.

Xie Yuyao glanced at the young policeman sitting opposite her, then lowered her head, feeling uneasy.

At this time, she still looked ugly after putting on makeup. After finishing the transaction, she happily went shopping and then got into the car without removing her makeup to restore her appearance.

She put away the headscarf after leaving the black market. Now she relies entirely on cosmetics to smear her face. If the police notice anything unusual, what excuse should she give?

You should know that espionage still exists these days, and even if you explain it as going to the black market, it's still illegal.

"Comrade, how did you see both thieves throwing away the stolen goods at the same time?"

After listening to Xie Yuyao's account of what happened, the young police officer asked several questions.

Regarding the question from the police on the other side, Xie Yuyao had already prepared her answer: "I saw it through the gaps between the passengers."

Zhao Honghui, who was standing to the side, turned his head and looked at her. He was in the car and knew Xie Yuyao's position very well. She was lying!

The young policewoman also sensed something was amiss. There were so many people on the bus, and no one else had noticed, yet she had spotted the two thieves so quickly.

From her initial warning of a thief to her precise identification of them, it was as if her eyes were watching their every move, which was impossible given her position.

The young man asked a few more detailed questions, but seeing that Xie Yuyao answered them perfectly, he had no choice but to give up.

Zhao Honghui's pupils contracted slightly as his sharp eyes spotted the traces of disguise on the person in front of him. Coupled with her lies, he thought of a possibility and exuded a cold and ruthless aura.

He didn't confront the police at the police station, but instead cooperated with them by giving a statement. Afterward, he and Xie Yuyao walked out of the police station together.

After giving their statements, Xie Yuyao and the others walked out of the police station.

The driver, still shaken, looked at Zhao Honghui and said, "Comrade Zhao, it's fortunate you were in the car. You're quite skilled!"

"You flatter me. I used to be a soldier." Zhao Honghui kept his eyes glued to Xie Yuyao, trying to find something amiss in her, but he saw her smiling and giving him an approving look, without any sign of guilt.

Was it a misunderstanding, or did she already know her identity?

Zhao Honghui frowned slightly. He felt like he had seen this person's facial features somewhere before. Could it be that this person was after him?

Amidst a whirlwind of emotions, I heard the voices of the two owners thanking me.

"You're welcome, it's what I should do."

The driver turned his gaze to Xie Yunyao. The man had attempted to attack, but thankfully she had stopped him. "Miss, thank you for stopping him, otherwise I might have been in trouble."

"You're too kind," Xie Yuyao replied with a faint smile.

The woman who lost the money also said, "Yes, young lady, I am very grateful to you. If you hadn't called out to me, I would never have found my purse."

"And me too, thank you." The refined-looking man also expressed his gratitude.

Xie Yuyao smiled and declined, saying, "It was just a coincidence."

In just a few words, we arrived at the car, and after everyone got on, we set off again.

Along the way, Zhao Honghui observed Xie Yuyao discreetly, but still had no clue.

No wonder he couldn't remember; who could easily connect these two extreme appearances to the same person?

In addition, Xie Yuyao's makeup skills were superb, so although her disguise was discovered, her true appearance could not be seen.

Passengers got on and off along the way. When they arrived at Hongqi Commune, Xie Yuyao picked up her basket and rushed off the bus. She hurriedly tilted her head back and drank some spring water, trying to calm her churning stomach.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw that five other people had also gotten off the bus, including Zhao Honghui, who was walking towards the town's street.

It was getting late, so Xie Yuyao didn't linger in town and headed straight for the country road back to Qingshan Village.

She didn't expect that Zhao Honghui would feint and then follow her.

*

After turning a large corner and finding no one around, Xie Yuyao slipped into her spatial dimension, removed her makeup, changed her clothes, and returned to her original appearance.

She did things thoroughly, not rushing out, but instead rummaging through the baskets with light items like brown sugar, milk candy, and cotton fabric, and finally covering the basket with another piece of cloth.

He activated his spatial perspective to check his surroundings, and once he was sure no one was around, he slipped out of the spatial realm, slung the basket over his shoulder, and started his journey.

On the other side, Zhao Honghui didn't follow too closely so as not to alert the enemy. By the time he turned the corner, the enemy had already disappeared from sight.

His heart tightened, and he continued walking forward, searching for clues along the way. The further he walked, the more he felt something was wrong.

The girl had disappeared without a trace, and there were no forks in the road ahead. He quickened his pace; there was no reason for him to fall behind.

When they reached a fork in the road, Zhao Honghui lowered his head in thought, then suddenly turned around and went back the way he came.

Not long after they started walking, they met Xie Yuyao.

Xie Yuyao was a little surprised. Wasn't he in town? Why was he coming towards her?

Confident that she had no flaws, she greeted him with a smile, "Comrade Zhao!"

Zhao Honghui nodded expressionlessly and said "Hello".

His military skills were excellent, and he immediately recognized her as a female educated youth who had just arrived yesterday.

The person before me had bright eyebrows and white teeth, and was incomparably beautiful. His gaze was deep and unfathomable. After pausing for two seconds, he continued walking forward.

Because of preconceived notions, and because Xie Yuyao's basket cover was different, no one connected her with the girl on the bus.

Just as they were about to pass each other, Zhao Honghui stopped and asked, "Comrade, where did you come from?"

Xie Yuyao's heart skipped a beat, but she remained calm and asked, "What happened in town?"

The fleeting micro-expression on her face did not escape Zhao Honghui's eyes.

"Have you seen anyone else along the way?" The question was accompanied by an inquiring gaze.

"There were a few people when I left, but later I was all alone," Xie Yuyao said frankly, then asked curiously at the end, "Are you looking for someone?"
