Chapter 5: The Blind Date Fails

Xie Yuyao was awakened by the noise outside. It was dusk, and the educated youth had returned from work.

"Oh no, I forgot to return the cart." Xie Yuyao quickly got up, rubbing her sleepy eyes as she walked out of the room.

Strange, the cart in the yard is gone.

Ren Fei, who was picking vegetables, saw her in a daze and laughed, "You're up? Chen Kai and I returned the cart."

"Thank you!" Xie Yuyao shook her still-mucous head, splashed some cold water on her face, and finally woke up.

Just then, a young man pushed a cart and delivered wooden products.

The other educated youths saw that she had bought a lot and didn't say anything, but Bei Xiao made sarcastic remarks, saying that she was extravagant and wasteful.

Xie Yuyao ignored him, put the two canvas bags directly into the box, and locked the lid.

Great, from now on, no one will notice anything unusual if we take anything good out of the box.

Just like now, she took out a stack of light blue homespun cloth and asked Ren Fei, "Do you want to hang a curtain on the kang (heated brick bed)?"

If other people come in or open the door while you are changing clothes, you could accidentally expose yourself.

Fortunately, when stocking up, she took into account the uncertainty of time travel and considered multiple time points, buying a lot of retro and nostalgic items, of which this homespun cloth was one.

Ren Fei hesitated. She was too embarrassed to take the fabric for free, and she was also short on money and didn't want to waste it.

Yang Shumei, who was standing to the side, was tempted. "Do you have enough cloth? I'd like to make a curtain too."

"That should be enough."

Yang Shumei discussed it with Jiang Yan, who was cooking, and the two switched beds. She slept next to Xie Yuyao, which made it easier to hang the curtain.

She took out 50 cents, and Xie Yuyao accepted it without hesitation and put it in her pocket.

There's plenty of time in the future, so it's best if we don't owe each other anything.

Xie Yuyao then took out a hammer, nails, and hemp rope, and together with Yang Shumei, they busily started working on it.

Ren Fei wasn't idle either. She helped sew the hanging strips, and seeing that there was some fabric left, she said, "Yu Yao, how about we hang this leftover fabric on the door? That way, everyone can have some privacy."

"Okay." It was just a piece of cloth, so Xie Yuyao agreed. "I also want to have a corner to soak in, so you'll have to sew some more strips for me."

"no problem!"

Working together, the group finished making the bed curtains and door curtains. Xie Yuyao then took out a piece of cloth and used it to partition off a "bathroom".

After Bei Xiao finished cooking and came into the house, she pouted and said, "A curtain is enough. We're all women, and you're all so delicate that you're afraid to look."

“We’re happy to do it, what’s it to you!” Yang Shumei, who had always been at odds with her, retorted directly.

"So pretentious, imitating capitalists."

Hearing this, Wu Lihong, an older woman who had just returned from watering the vegetables, immediately spoke up to stop her: "Bei Xiao, if you want, you can go buy some homespun cloth to hang it up. Be careful what you say."

Bei Xiao moved her lips, but swallowed her words.

Wu Lihong expressed her gratitude upon learning that Xie Yuyao had donated the fabric for the curtain. Although homespun cloth is not difficult to buy in the countryside, not everyone is willing to contribute.

Dinner was about to be served, and the eyes of the male and female educated youths lit up. They took out their bowls and chopsticks and sat down at the table, looking eager to get started.

It turned out that the brigade leader had brought over a wild rabbit that morning to welcome the new educated youth; this was a rare treat for them!

The main course was already on the table; it was a multigrain steamed bun, and a large plate of braised potatoes and eggplant was also served.

Jiang Yan opened the pot lid, and the aroma of stewed rabbit meat instantly filled the entire room. Xie Yuyao couldn't help but swallow her saliva.

As soon as a large plate of braised pork was placed on the table, everyone else's chopsticks danced in a blur as they wolfed it down.

Xie Yuyao stared in disbelief, shook her head, and joined the fray for meat; if they didn't eat it soon, there wouldn't be any left.

Everyone ate the meal with greasy faces and great satisfaction.

After the meal, everyone gave a brief self-introduction.

Xie Yuyao also learned that the male educated youth who shared the meat he had snatched with Bei Xiao was named Xiang Wenshan, and it seemed that the two were dating.

After the meal, it got completely dark.

The production team didn't have electricity yet, so they used kerosene lamps for lighting at night.

After a long day of work, the educated youth would wash up and go back to their rooms to sleep, knowing they would have to go back to work as soon as it was light the next day, so they needed to conserve their energy.

Under these lighting conditions, there was nothing Xie Yuyao could do.

However, she can change her location; her personal space only has daytime and no night.

She lay down on the kang (a heated brick bed), and her consciousness entered her personal space.

Seeing the abundant harvest in the planting field fills me with joy.

This land is ten acres, about the size of a football field, and she divided it into five areas: flowers, vegetables, fruits, grains, and medicinal herbs.

Many seeds were sown previously, and most of them are now ripe. A comparison revealed that the ripening time is about ten times faster than in reality.

The spatial farmland area can also be controlled by thought; unharvested plants will remain in a mature state and will not wither or die.

She moved all the ripe fruits, vegetables, and crops to the second floor of the warehouse, where the first floor had already been filled.

Since the fruit could bear fruit again, she planted rice, wheat, cotton and other crops, as well as some vegetables such as leafy greens, pumpkins and bean pods.

After finishing her work, she turned and went into the bamboo house, found the "Complete Book of Medicinal Plants," and sat down in the rattan chair to read it.

This bamboo house occupies about 300 square meters and has two floors. It has been carefully decorated, with antique-style furniture inside, giving it a classic and elegant feel.

The reason she read this book was because she wanted to go mountain hunting. She had heard that the mountains of Northeast China were full of treasures, and she just wanted to see if she knew what they were.

She can't keep relying on her spatial storage to exchange for supplies. If the secret is leaked, she'll either be killed and robbed, or dissected by the research lab. Even if she escapes, she'll have to live under an assumed name and never have a peaceful life. In short, there will be no good ending.
