Chapter 46: The tongue is faster than a knife

Zhang Xiufen was thrown on a bullock cart and pushed to the police station. Everyone thought it was too smelly, so they called the cleaning lady to change Zhang Xiufen's clothes. After that, the police rubbed cooling oil on her nose, and she opened her eyes soon.

Seeing Chi Yin sitting opposite her, Zhang Xiufen rushed over angrily, but because her feet were tied, she fell to the ground with the chair.

"Chi Yin, you are such a heartless bastard! You have been married to my son for four years, and I have given you everything I have ever given you, yet you hit me? My son must have been blind to marry a piece of shit like you!"

Zhang Xiufen fell to the ground and couldn't get up, but it didn't affect her eloquence. She scolded people without using any emphasis.

The police officer frowned at her foul language and slammed the table and yelled, "Behave yourself!"

The police officer who was taking notes pulled Zhang Xiufen up, and Zhang Xiufen stopped being angry with Chi Yin for a while. She grabbed the police officer's knees and wanted to kneel down, "Comrade police, please help this old woman of mine. This cruel daughter-in-law beat me. Look at the wound on the back of my head. She came up and beat me with a stick."

Zhang Xiufen pulled open her collar to reveal the red marks from the aftereffects, but the police officer didn't even look at her. Instead, he said in disgust, "You went to someone's house and acted like a ghost, wanting to burn the person to ashes, and you still have the right to complain here?"

Zhang Xiufen's eyes widened, and she quickly said, "No, I don't have it."

The policeman snorted, "You're still saying no, but you burned the quilts and sheets in the Chi family's yard?"

Zhang Xiufen was so angry that she stood up and pointed at the police officer's nose and asked, "Which eye did you see me burning someone? You should have evidence when you speak. You are a police officer and you don't even have any evidence, but you accuse me of burning someone? Do you deserve to be in this police uniform?"

...

...

The policeman was speechless after being scolded by her. He just pushed her to sit on the chair and then ignored her.

Chi Yin's eyes were sharp as she spoke, "Zhang Xiufen, my father has been a teacher for most of his life. He is a clean person and has never done anything to blackmail others. Could it be that my father set the quilt and sheets at home on fire to slander you?"

Zhang Xiufen turned her head and stared at Chi Yin, "Are you still trying to blackmail me? Ha! When you said I was possessed by a ghost, you said it more seriously than anyone else. Aren't you blackmailing me?"

"Oh, you're not possessed by a ghost. So you came to my house with a clear purpose of smashing things and setting fire to them?" Chi Yin turned to the police and said, "Comrade police, did you hear that? She herself admitted that she wasn't possessed by a ghost, so her behavior was premeditated murder."

Zhang Xiufen never thought that Chi Yin could lead her into this trap with his roundabout way of talking. When she heard the word "premeditated murder", she was so frightened that her blood pressure rose and she collapsed in her chair.

Then, Chi Yin saw Wei Cheng'an break into the interrogation room and hold Zhang Xiufen with both hands. Zhang Xiufen collapsed limply in his arms. It was as sinful as it could be.

Seeing that the person coming was her youngest son, Zhang Xiufen burst into tears, "Cheng'an, you're finally here. Mom didn't intend to murder me. It was that little bitch Chi Yin who framed me!"

Zhang Xiufen wiped her eyes, not knowing whether she was pretending or really crying. She opened her collar to reveal the red marks on her neck, "Look at the wounds. She pinned my old bones to the ground and beat me. She even pulled out a bunch of my hair."

Wei Chengan glanced at the wound on Zhang Xiufen's neck and patted her gently. He looked at the police officer with a frightening seriousness, "What's going on?"

It turns out that this crazy woman is Wei Chengan's mother. The police felt somewhat guilty.

He quickly picked up the police dispatch record and presented it to Wei Cheng'an, patiently explaining to him, "This is what happened. We received a call this morning saying that someone was making a scene at home and threatening to set fire to the house, so we went out to the police station. When we arrived at Chi's house, we found that a lot of things were indeed burned, but fortunately no one was injured."

With someone to back her up, Zhang Xiufen's attitude hardened, and she fired at the police, "I didn't admit to arson. Did I just say that I set the fire? You, little comrade, should provide evidence when speaking. You are what Chi Yin says. Are you so casual in handling cases? Do you know who my son is? He is in your county party committee compound, and even the township head and secretary have to smile!"

"Mom!" Wei Cheng'an looked at Zhang Xiufen with frighteningly cold eyes.

Zhang Xiufen was so scared that she subconsciously made excuses for herself, "Even if Chi Yin beat me, it would be unfair to treat such a person unfairly if you don't show your identity and background."

The police officer explained, "Captain Wei, I did ask this female comrade to knock your mother unconscious with a stick. She refused to cooperate with the police station. We would have taken coercive measures against anyone else. We did not target your mother alone. We only knocked her with a stick. We did not pull her hair or beat her on the ground."

Wei Chengan was silent for a while, then looked up at Chi Yin, "You said she set the fire, where is the evidence?"

Chi Yin looked back at him expressionlessly, "Only Zhang Xiufen and my dad were at home at the time. Do you think it was my dad who took all the quilts and sheets to the yard and set them on fire?"

"Why can't it be your dad? Just because he's an old teacher, he won't do such dirty things?"

Wei Cheng'an looked at Chi Yin calmly, but the words he spoke were very tough, which made Chi Yin slightly surprised.

He actually protected Zhang Xiufen like this.

However, in his eyes, the behavior of Liu Qingchun and those little gangster girls was just a bit bad tempered, not to mention that Zhang Xiufen was his mother who gave birth to him and raised him.

Chi Yin turned away, hiding the bitterness that suddenly rose in her heart, "Okay, everything depends on evidence, and we can't wrongly accuse people for no reason. So, my dad is not here, you let your mom testify herself. If she is innocent, then we can find evidence for this case again. If she deliberately set the fire or committed murder--"

Chi Yin turned to the police officer and said, "Comrade police officer, how do you sentence premeditated murder?"

The police officer hesitated for a moment and said, "According to Article 105 of the 1979 Criminal Law, if it is intentional arson and murder, even if the circumstances are relatively minor, the sentence should be up to three years in prison."

Chi Yin listened, with no extra expression on his face, and analyzed,

"My parents live a poor and frugal life. The matches we use at home are all the Magpie brand from the local match factory. There are ten matches in a box, and we only light one match each time we cook. We use thirty matches a month. Today is the third day of the month, so there must be at least seven matches in a box, right? Zhang Xiufen was able to light the quilt and sheets, so she must have used at least four or five matches."

"Comrade police officer, please go to my house and take the matches from my kitchen. Let's count how many matches are left in front of Captain Wei. If there are seven matches, it can be proved that Zhang Xiufen brought the matches from outside to ignite the fire. If the number is too different, we can continue to look for evidence from other directions."

"You little bastard, your mouth is sharper than a knife, and you have a lot of twisted logic!"

Zhang Xiufen was so angry that she rushed forward to hit Chi Yin, but was held down by Wei Chengan. Zhang Xiufen cursed at him with all sorts of dirty words.

"You are a jinx who brings bad luck to your husband and wife. You kept a mistress outside and then divorced my son. You also took my two granddaughters away. Now you are accusing me of premeditated murder. I am still your wife after all. How can you be so vicious!"

Zhang Xiufen finished cursing in one breath, pretending to be greatly shocked, turned around and threw herself into Wei Chengan's arms and cried loudly, "Chengan, mom didn't set the fire, I don't admit this! It was her dad who set the fire, and they want to slander and accuse me!"
