Chapter 97 Rong Chu: Wrong Turn
In my dream, I felt as if I were falling into dense clouds.
It dispelled the autumn chill and enveloped her from all sides.
Yu Wanyin subconsciously curled up, burying herself in the man's chest and shoulder.
Then, an arm naturally wrapped around her waist and pulled her close.
Being in a semi-conscious state makes it easy to lose focus.
Yu Wanyin had gotten used to the feeling of being enveloped and instinctively thought that this night was no different from countless nights before.
Rong Si held her captive in his arms, and she felt warm and comforted by his furnace-like body.
That's not all.
They had some kind of fleece blanket on them, which shielded them from the cold wind.
Gradually, Yu Wanyin even felt hot.
She broke free from those strong shoulders and arms, and with a turn, she seemed to sink into a clear spring.
It has a strangely pleasant, cool, and comfortable feel.
It's not so hot and dry, but rather warm and soothing, making it easier to fall asleep.
Yu Wanyin felt that something was not quite right.
But the overwhelming drowsiness prevented her from opening her eyes to check her surroundings.
The nightmare quickly dragged her deeper into it.
She had a very strange dream, about living together in the same nest.
She was simultaneously tormented by raging flames and clear springs, like unrefined yet condensed clouds and rain.
It evaporates and then condenses.
It was scattered and then pinched back together.
She tossed and turned between extremes of heat and cold.
The next day, at some unknown time, the sound of horses' hooves echoed through the mountains where they were.
Their names echoed through the valley.
The birds that were resting around were startled by these unexpected visitors and scattered in all directions.
Yu Wanyin was also awakened by the noise and commotion outside.
She opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was the man's clearly defined Adam's apple and jawline.
Yu Wanyin wondered when she had snuggled into his arms.
Not only that, but a cloak had somehow appeared over her body.
No wonder it sometimes feels so hot.
Outside the pit, shouts came again. She had just crawled out a little while ago when she was suddenly bumped into another figure that looked like a wall.
Yu Wanyin subconsciously turned around and met Chu Yu's unfathomable black eyes. She asked, "Yaoyao is awake?"
Yu Wanyin instantly regained her senses and was about to sit up in shock.
Suddenly, Rong Si grabbed her waist from the other side and pulled her back sharply.
Yu Wanyin was caught off guard and bumped back into Rong Si.
Her forehead touched his lips.
Rong Si lowered his head slightly and asked her, "Are you still cold?"
Yu Wanyin struggled to get out of his arms and said, "No, I'm not cold."
She sat up, looked at the two people in front of her, and showed a shocked and bewildered expression.
"Why are you all here with me?"
Chu Yu lowered his eyes and slowly took his cloak. "This place isn't big, why should we distinguish between you and me?"
"Besides, it's chilly in the late autumn nights, and it's not good for anyone to get sick."
Rong Si ignored Chu Yu's explanation and sat there as if it were perfectly natural, saying, "I'm afraid you'll catch a cold."
"As for whether what the Marquis of Chu said is the same as what he thought, I have no idea."
Last night, when he walked up to Yu Wanyin, Chu Yu handed him his cloak and then stayed.
Yu Wanyin was asleep, and Rong Si couldn't afford to fight with Chu Yu and wake her up.
Chu Yu didn't think he had done anything wrong. "What, you're worried about Yao Yao catching a cold, but I'm not?"
They both had valid points.
Yu Wanyin was completely shocked and couldn't understand it. "Alright, stop arguing."
She opened her eyes to find herself surrounded by two men, both of whom had been intimate with her.
Such contact with anyone would trigger certain memories she shouldn't have.
She might even recall some things that Rong Si had mentioned to her before.
That bizarre and absurd decision.
Yu Wanyin stood up and kept a certain distance from each of them.
This still allows us to see how the three of them interacted last night.
In this almost dark and cold forbidden place, she was imprisoned.
They could touch her with just a reach of their hands.
No matter which side she gets close to, she can't escape being seen.
If anyone had any such thoughts...
Yu Wanyin found the whole thing increasingly absurd and, trying to cover it up, said something else, "Someone's coming to pick us up outside, let's hurry up and go."
Rong Si followed her gaze outside and heard shouts coming from all directions.
Chu Yu took out a wisp of red smoke from his pocket, got up and walked to the nearly extinguished campfire, then lit it.
The fiery red stars shot straight into the sky.
It exploded on the horizon.
It quickly attracted the attention of those searching.
Chu Yu casually tossed the things aside.
Rong Si's eyelids twitched. "So you have something to deliver messages?"
Chu Yu still had a reason, saying casually, "I only have this one, so naturally I have to use it at crucial moments."
"If released at night, it will not be easily seen."
Rong Si laughed in anger.
Footsteps soon came from outside the pit, and someone shouted, "Over here!"
Wu Zhou spotted them first, confirmed that there were three of them inside, and informed the people who arrived later, "They're all here."
Wu Zhou took out a spare rope, tied it to a large tree nearby, and then lowered the rope down into the pit.
More and more people arrived later.
Qin Yuan followed closely behind.
She went down into the pit and brought Yu Wanyin up first, brushing the dust off her body. "Are you hurt?"
“I’m fine,” Yu Wanyin shook her head and looked behind her. “They’re both injured.”
Qin Yuan's eyelids twitched upon hearing this.
How could such a small crater have injured these two people?
These two are the kind of people who can go to the battlefield and come out unscathed.
Qin Yuan glanced at the pit a couple more times.
Although I still don't think it's that serious, the two people who came up after me were indeed injured.
The arriving guards brought them up and took them to the nearest palace villa.
After Yu Wanyin took a simple bath and changed her clothes, Shan Chenjun summoned the imperial physician to examine her.
Yu Wanyin did not have any injuries to her body or bones.
Shan Chenjun and Shan Yuncai were relieved.
Shan Yun frowned and sighed, "How come there are still those pits and holes?"
Shan Chenjun looked displeased and asked his servant, "Wasn't this mountain already searched?"
"Yes, it has been investigated." Although the palace maid knew that Shan Chenjun was usually easy to talk to, her stern and angry expression was still terrifying.
The palace servant dared not offer any other excuses, and could only frankly say, "Perhaps the people below have become lax. Your Highness, please calm down. This servant will arrange for another inspection to ensure that there will be no second hunting pit in these mountains."
Shan Chenjun said a few more words to them, but Yu Wanyin didn't listen carefully.
She asked the imperial physician beside her, "Has anyone gone to see those two?"
After a moment's thought, the imperial physician roughly knew who Yu Wanyin was asking about. "There have been people checking over there, so Princess, don't worry."
How are they doing?
The imperial physician wasn't sure about that. After a moment's hesitation, he truthfully told Yu Wanyin, "As soon as my colleagues and I received the news, we went to where you were resting. I only know about Your Highness's condition at the moment, and I don't know about the other two."
Yu Wanyin understood and didn't ask any more questions, so she told him to leave.
Shan Yun and Shan Chenjun exchanged a few more words with Yu Wanyin in the room. Considering that Yu Wanyin had just been brought back and needed to rest, they did not linger.
After seeing them off, Yu Wanyin sat in the room for a while and then called Qingsong in.
"Where are those two? Take me to see them."
"Okay." Qing Song put down his things and took Yu Wanyin out to inquire about Rong Si and Chu Yu.
The imperial palace and villa had only recently been completed, and there were not many rooms. Rong Si and Chu Yu were temporarily housed in the same courtyard.
In the separate rooms, one to the east and one to the west, Yu Wanyin hesitated for a moment before asking the servants, "Which room is Commander Rong in?"
The palace maid pointed to a room and said to Yu Wanyin, "Lord Rong is in the east wing."
Yu Wanyin thanked him and walked towards the east wing.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she stepped into the house, she saw Chu Yu sitting upright in the side room, adjusting the bandages on his hands.
He raised his eyes slightly upon hearing the voice, a cryptic smile playing on his lips. "You've come."
For a moment, Yu Wanyin even thought she couldn't distinguish between things.
She examined it carefully and confirmed that it was indeed the east wing. But since she was already there, and Chu Yu had been injured because of her, she decided to stay.
Yu Wanyin stepped forward, "Are you feeling better?"
"It hurts more today than yesterday." That's how bone injuries are. The initial pain is just the surface, but the pain gradually becomes excruciating and cannot be ignored.
Chu Yu would certainly not say that Rong Si was indeed placed in the east wing, as the servants had correctly stated, and Yu Wanyin had also made a good choice.
But he insisted on staying there, and Rong Si, unwilling to share a room with him, went elsewhere.
He knew that if Yu Wanyin were to distinguish between title and status, she would first go to Rong Si.
So they secretly switched the beams and pillars, waiting here for the rabbit to run into the tree stump.
Chu Yu gestured, "Yaoyao, help me tie it up."
"The imperial physician just came and changed the dressing; I can't put it on myself."
Yu Wanyin looked around and was surprised to find that Wu Zhou and Chao Yue, who were with Chu Yu, were nowhere to be seen.
She subconsciously looked at Qing Song.
Qing Song shrank her neck and hid behind Yu Wanyin.
Yu Wanyin knew that Qing Song was terrified of Chu Yu, so she didn't make things difficult for her and stepped forward, lifting her skirt.
It was just helping to wrap a bandage.
Yu Wanyin did not sit down either.
Chu Yu briefly explained the technique of wrapping the arm bandage to her, and Yu Wanyin took over and took care of it.
She leaned slightly forward, and stray hairs fell from her temples, dangling right in front of the man.
It carries a faint scent of lily of the valley.
Bewitching and captivating.
Yu Wanyin moved very gently, afraid of hurting anyone, and wrapped the bandage little by little.
She would also ask him, "Is this okay?"
Chu Yu nodded, "Yaoyao can do whatever she wants for me."
Yu Wanyin paused for a moment, the sound from beside her ears seemed to penetrate deep into her bones.
She panicked for a moment, but still tried to remain calm as she tended to his bandages.
After a long silence, Yu Wanyin said, "Chu Yu, you will meet a girl who is right for you."
"I've already encountered it."
Yu Wanyin looked at him, but Chu Yu still maintained his composed demeanor, keeping her firmly within his sight.
Chu Yu continued, "We've already had the ceremony, but we haven't divorced, so I'll treat it as if we're still the same as before."
"It's just that...it's not recognized by the world."
"I've always been someone who's hard to be acknowledged."
“I don’t mind that our relationship isn’t recognized.”
Yu Wanyin's eyelashes trembled, "No..."
Before she could finish speaking, a series of slightly heavy footsteps sounded from behind her inside the room.
They walked towards them, one step at a time.
Yu Wanyin knew who it was just by hearing the footsteps. She stood up straight guiltily, and Chu Yu, who was in front of her, also stood up when he saw the person coming from behind.
The overwhelming sense of oppression came at the same time as the sense of oppression behind them.
Chu Yu grabbed Yu Wanyin's sleeve first, and spoke in a drawn-out tone to the other person, "Yaoyao still cares about me, doesn't she?"
"Otherwise, they wouldn't have come to see me first."
Just as Yu Wanyin was about to pull away, Rong Si's voice rang out from behind her, "What is Madam saying to some unrelated people?"
Rong Si emphasized the word "Madam," his words carrying a strong sense of provocation.
When the two collide, there is an inexplicable sense of tension, like swords about to be drawn.
"Um," Yu Wanyin turned around, stammering as she tried to leave, "I went to the wrong place, otherwise you guys..."
Before she could finish speaking, Rong Si stopped her abruptly, his words carrying a deeper meaning, "Oh, you've gone to the wrong place."
As he spoke, Rong Si leaned down and covered her soft lips with his.
Yu Wanyin's heart skipped a beat; being watched by her ex-husband doing such a thing still made her scalp tingle.
She pressed against Rong Si's chest and tried to turn her head to avoid him. She had just moved away a little when she saw Chu Yu walking slowly up behind her in the corner of her eye.
The sound of those footsteps was just as chilling.
Chu Yu's slightly cool hand climbed up Yu Wanyin's sleeve and grasped her forearm, bringing an indescribable tingling sensation.
He gently reprimanded Rong Si behind his ear, "Look how fierce you are, you've scared her."
