Chapter 78 Don't look
The King of the North slowly opened his eyes, his gaze fixed intently on the soldiers delivering the message below.
He chuckled softly without a sound.
The soldiers knelt on one knee below the palace. Upon hearing the Northern Chi King's reaction, they looked up and said, "Your Majesty's guess was correct; she has indeed come."
“Ms. Yu is a person who…repays kindness and clearly distinguishes between gratitude and resentment. Chu Yu entered the camp for her sake, so she will not refuse to come.”
"Her greatest strength is that she is soft-hearted."
"Perhaps, this is also a drawback."
The soldiers nodded. "Does Your Majesty permit us to enter?"
"No rush," the Northern Chi King ordered. "Drag all the Han prisoners of war in the camp to the execution ground."
"Since we know she's soft-hearted, we should make the most of her."
"Shan Chenjun was also brought along."
*
He Lanjun remained in Shan Chenjun's camp.
Shan Chenjun only leaned against the side and dozed off for half an hour. In his sleep, the tent door was pried open again.
He Lanjun was the first to react, looking warily toward the door and getting up defensively.
The next person to enter was Mugo.
He Lanjun raised his sword again, asking, "Why are you here?"
Mugo clearly hadn't expected He Lanjun to be there either.
"There's no time to say anything," Mugo said, tossing Shan Chenjun a set of soldier's armor to him. "Hurry up and put it on."
As Mugo spoke, he glanced outside the door, and to make sure no one would come over anytime soon, he immediately closed the door.
"If Chu Yu hadn't been in trouble last night, the Central Plains camp would have sent a visiting card this morning; it's from the Central Plains."
He Lanjun asked, "Who?"
"Yu Wanyin."
Shan Chenjun suddenly stopped in his tracks as he stood up.
She looked up at Mugo.
Mugo urged on, "His Majesty has already sent all the Han prisoners to the execution ground, and he even named you!"
"If you don't leave now, the Emperor will use you as a live target!"
Shan Chenjun frowned, immediately stood up and put on the soldier's armor.
Mugo stood guard at the door.
He Lanjun's hand, gripping his sword, tightened slowly as he muttered something under his breath, "What do you mean by taking me to the execution ground too?"
"Who knows what it means? What meaning could an execution ground possibly have?" Shan Chenjun's tone was no longer relaxed.
He had even lost the composure he had shown when he was trying to persuade He Lanjun.
It wasn't because the Northern Chi King wanted to take her to the execution ground as well, but because Shan Chenjun realized that the Northern Chi King wanted to use her to threaten Yu Wanyin today.
A despicable and shameless person.
Helan Jun's face darkened. "You are so loyal to the emperor, always thinking of the Northern Chi tribe. Doesn't he have a heart?"
"You were just speaking up for him?!" He Lanjun exclaimed, immediately getting up and leaving. "He's the kind of person who doesn't deserve to be called a hero."
Mugo waited outside for the two of them to come out one after the other, and then they left quietly.
Shan Chenjun pretended to be one of Mu Ge's subordinates and followed him around.
She took a few steps and saw in the distance a vast number of Han Chinese prisoners of war being brought out of the Shanze camp and escorted in a line to the execution ground.
Looking around, the sight is shocking.
These are living, breathing human lives.
These were all things that the Northern Chi King wanted to use to threaten Yu Wanyin.
Shan Chenjun felt a chill run down his spine, then stopped, remembering something.
Mugo turned to look at her.
Shan Chenjun urged him, "Take me to the prison; there are still Han prisoners there."
That girl, Qin Yuan.
Mugo realized what was happening, immediately turned around, and took her to the prison.
However, when they arrived, the Dan Yi army was already stationed at the gate.
Shan Chenjun frowned as he looked around at the forest of knife-pointed blades.
The guards at the prison gate stopped Mugo.
Mugo showed his token, "I'm here to retrieve Han prisoners. In addition, we need to bring out a prisoner we previously investigated."
"Our general is already inside."
“Your general’s business is your general’s business,” Mugo said, now that things had come to this point, he decided to go all the way. “The emperor gives me an order, why do you generals need to agree to it!”
After saying that, Mugo led his men to force their way in!
Shan Chenjun followed him inside.
Dan Yi's men tried to stop them to no avail, but they couldn't afford to start a major conflict there, so they could only watch as the intruders broke in.
Mugo's soldiers stood opposite them at the gate, swords in hand, facing each other in a tense standoff.
Mugo and Shan Chenjun quickly descended into the dungeon.
In the distance, one could hear the sound of whips cracking and Dan Yi's shouts urging them on.
The main prison of the Northern Chi tribe also held mostly Han Chinese prisoners.
These people were all chained and were taken away one by one to the execution ground.
And in one of the prisons.
Qin Yuan was escorted out with her hands tied behind her back!
Mugo stepped forward. "This prisoner was captured by us and interrogated a couple of days ago. We confirmed he's a prisoner from Shanshan, so we have to take him with us."
Dan Yi glanced at Mu Ge. "A Shanshan native? How did you figure that out?"
“I’m on the same level as you. The investigation I conducted doesn’t seem to require explanation to you,” Mugo gestured.
The soldiers behind him immediately stepped forward, ready to snatch the man from Shan Yi's hands.
Unexpectedly, Shan Yi stopped him first, shoving Mu Ge aside, "Why would a Shanshan person wear a Miro totem cloud scarf?!"
As Shan Yi spoke, he tugged at the piece of cloth from Qin Yuan's wrist, "Explain yourself?"
Qin Yuan frowned slightly, "How did you tell that this is a Miro totem?"
Mugo said in a deep voice, "Milo has been extinct for more than a decade. Stop talking nonsense."
“Yes.” Shan Yi smiled, holding up her cloud-patterned handkerchief and gesturing to her subordinates in the prison. “Milo was destroyed more than ten years ago, but my men should all have seen it.”
Dan Yi smiled sinisterly and turned to look at Qin Yuan, "Because I led the troops to destroy Miro."
"We have seized far too many of these children's handkerchiefs."
The somewhat sharp, boastful voice echoed against the damp stone walls of the prison, reverberating once more.
The sound reverberated.
At this moment, the Han Chinese prisoners around also looked over upon hearing the sound.
Suddenly, the surroundings became quiet for some reason.
The prison was filled with an oppressive, murky mist and the stench of blood.
Qin Yuan stared at him for a long time, her expression shifting from mere resistance to being escorted to a dark and gloomy one.
The man's image was reflected in her eyes, as if a monstrous wave was slowly swallowing and tearing her apart.
Dan Yi laughed even more wildly, "Don't look at me like that."
"I've seen that kind of look in your eyes many times back in the day."
"Besides, your country has been gone for so many years, why are you looking at me like that?"
"What can you do?" Shan Yi walked up to her defiantly. "Just a homeless dog who has left his hometown."
Qin Yuan gritted her teeth and struggled forward, but was then firmly restrained.
The iron chains around him clanged and rattled.
Shan Chenjun, who was listening nearby, had his eyelashes flutter slightly.
Her hands, hanging by her sides, slowly clenched into fists. For a moment, Shan Yi spoke as if she were speaking not only to Qin Yuan, but also to her.
Dan Yi was completely oblivious to the commotion, only glancing coldly at Qin Yuan's struggles. "Save your energy, I've checked your file."
"I heard you came here as a bodyguard to protect people on their way home."
"Go back to what home? You don't even have a home anymore," Shan Yi said in a melodious tone. "Are you going back to that desolate place, the place we've trampled over countless times, or back to Shanshan?"
Shan Chenjun's breathing became increasingly rapid.
Dan Yi threw Qin Yuan's handkerchief on the ground and stepped on it, saying, "Take it if you want."
He looked at Mugo with a hint of mockery, "After all, you've had it tough too. You couldn't even bring your brother back, so you can only bring these stray dogs."
"Oh, I almost forgot, your father and brothers are all gone now, you're just a stray dog."
Dan Yi swaggered through the prison.
As he passed by Shan Chenjun, Shan Chenjun suddenly stood up and pushed him down, pinning him to the ground!
Immediately afterwards, Shan Chenjun plunged his dagger into Shan Yi's neck!
Blood spurted out instantly, splattering onto Shan Chenjun's face!
Shan Chenjun remained silent, his eyes red, as he stabbed Shan Yi repeatedly.
In the prison, Shan Yi's soldiers immediately drew their swords and rushed forward, shouting, "There's a traitor..."
Before he could finish speaking, Mugo stabbed him in the chest!
The surrounding soldiers stared at Mugo, drew their blades, and surrounded him. Then, one of the Han prisoners shouted, "Kill them!"
Then the prisoners being escorted from the prison rushed forward!
The iron chains on the prisoners' hands bound the long swords of the Hu people, and also strangled their necks!
The soldiers behind Qin Yuan were about to step forward to help when they released her. Qin Yuan immediately used the chains to entangle the Hu man and slammed him hard against the wall!
Mugo blew a military whistle!
The whistle echoed through the prison, and shouts and sounds of hacking and slashing arose everywhere!
Shan Chenjun's dagger was deeply embedded in Shan Yi's body, and he murmured unsteadily, "Kill them..."
Her eyes were bloodshot as she slowly stood up, her voice hoarse, "Kill them, then we'll go home."
"We can all go back."
*
The invitation was sent at the hour of Yin (3-5 AM), but the camp was not fully opened until the hours of Mao (5-7 AM) and Chen (7-9 AM).
The Hu soldiers outside the camp lined up on both sides, watching the people coming from outside the camp intently.
Yu Wanyin lifted the brim of her cloak and hat, revealing a pool of clear water in her eyes, reflecting the endless yellow sand beyond the pass.
She stood silently outside the camp, watching as layers of Hu soldiers made way for her as they came to greet her.
A crowd of people, like quicksand, gathered before her.
It was as if taking just one step would engulf and devour her.
Yu Wanyin thought to herself that she knew what she was doing.
She had no choice but to do it.
In times of chaos, no one can remain uninvolved.
She had been swept away by mudslides and torrents for many years, and she didn't want to be swept away again.
A servant from the Northern Chi King's side came out and bowed to Yu Wanyin, saying, "This way, please, young lady."
Yu Wanyin lowered her eyes and, following the signal of the attendant of the King of Bei Chi, followed him into the Bei Chi camp.
Upon entering the camp, she felt surrounded and swarmed. She could hear the Hu people lined up on both sides quickly passing behind her, blocking her way in and out.
The wide black cloak on Yu Wanyin's body was lifted by a corner in the wind, revealing the hem of her snow-white skirt.
The extreme black and white color scheme made her particularly memorable.
The soldiers and guards of the Northern Chi camp stared intently as Yu Wanyin entered.
More and more eyes are drawn to her.
Gradually, Yu Wanyin sensed not only the gazes of the Northern Chi Hu people, but also some familiar eyes.
She paused for a moment and looked in the direction from which those gazes were coming from.
I saw a huge execution ground that had been set up, filled with countless Han Chinese prisoners of war.
Some of them were prisoners of war they had planted to provide support.
Others were captured and taken to the Northern Chi camp during previous battles.
Yu Wanyin met their gaze.
She recognized many of the people inside; there was a high platform in the very center of the interrogation area.
On the high platform, a familiar figure was tied up.
Chu Yu saw her from afar, his dark, deep black eyes revealing a hint of fierceness.
How did she get here?
Who let her come?!
Didn't he tell Rong Si...?
Someone at the execution ground was extremely surprised, exclaiming, "Why is the Queen here?!"
"Who summoned the Queen?!"
Someone tried to speak, but the Hu people suppressed their voices, shouting, "Silence!"
Yu Wanyin withdrew her gaze. She knew what it meant that the King of Bei Chi had specially brought these people here and allowed her to see them along the way.
She took a deep breath and followed her entourage through the execution ground to a tall tent.
The attendant gestured for her to wait outside the tent, then went in to announce her arrival.
Yu Wanyin stood quietly outside the door, occasionally hearing the unique sounds of iron machinery turning and the rustling of weapons being handled inside the barracks.
The air was filled with the strong smell of gunpowder.
Yu Wanyin was momentarily dazed.
As she was lost in thought, a voice announced from the attendant's tent, "Our lord has been waiting for you for a long time, please come in, young lady."
Yu Wanyin took a deep breath and stepped into the tent.
Within the king's main territory, the highest level of etiquette and protocol of the Northern Chi tribe was still maintained.
The carpet stretched from the entrance all the way to the throne directly in front.
The person above wasn't looking at her; he was holding a chess piece in his hand, propping his forehead up as he looked at the chessboard in front of him.
Yu Wanyin walked along the carpet to him.
King Bei Chi raised his hand, and the attendant beside him withdrew.
"You've arrived, have a seat." The King of Bei Chi spoke to her with great ease, as if they had just met yesterday and were seeing each other again today.
He tapped the chessboard in front of him lightly with a chess piece in his hand. "This is something from your Central Plains. I haven't figured it out yet. Do you know how?"
Yu Wanyin sat down across the table, saying, "I know a little bit about it."
"Your royal families in the Central Plains all love playing chess, but what's the fun in that?"
Yu Wanyin picked up a chess piece and casually placed it somewhere. "Your Majesty should have already experienced the joy of chess."
The Northern Chi King stared at her intently. "So, does this mean I've won?"
Yu Wanyin lifted her eyelids to look at him, "Whether I win or not, I'm already here, aren't I?"
King Bei Chi carefully placed another piece, "What kind of existence is Chu Yu to you?"
“You should know that he was my first husband.” Yu Wanyin made no attempt to hide it. “He almost died at your hands because of me.”
“I can’t let him do this kind of thing anymore.”
The King of Bei Chi kneaded the chess piece in his hand, "If it wasn't him, but Rong Si?"
“Same.” Yu Wanyin placed her piece. “So now that I’m here, will you let him go?”
Looking at the chessboard gradually unfolding before him, the King of Bei Chi said, "I can."
“Not only him, but if you cooperate, I can also reunite you with your older sister.”
Yu Wanyin's eyelashes trembled slightly as she slowly clenched the chess piece she had picked up into her palm.
"Including those prisoners of war outside, anything you want, I can give you."
Yu Wanyin said slowly, "Besides these, I don't want anything else."
"I'm just not reconciled." Yu Wanyin looked at him. "How did the once prosperous situation in the Central Plains fall to this state?"
"We clearly have two great generals, Chu Yurong and Si, who, working together with your Northern Chi forces, could easily win, but..."
The Northern Chi King keenly sensed the deeper meaning in Yu Wanyin's words and interrupted her, "An inside-outside attack?"
Yu Wanyin fell silent slightly, her eyebrows twitching as if she had said something wrong.
The King of the North was not in a hurry, and patiently coaxed, "It's alright, tell me, who is colluding with you from the inside and outside?"
Yu Wanyin lowered her eyes. "No."
"explain."
“It’s just Chu Yu.” Yu Wanyin raised her eyes. “If Chu Yu enters the camp, he can first take care of Commander Shan Zeyi. If he succeeds in assassinating you, it will naturally be a coordinated attack from within and without.”
The King of Bei Chi sat up straight with a smile, "Yu Wanyin, you're not being honest."
"Someone come here."
Attendants stepped forward one after another, saying, "Your Majesty."
Were all those Han prisoners of war executed?
"exist."
The King of the North said leisurely, "Alright."
Yu Wanyin interrupted him, "What are you trying to do?"
“If you are not willing to negotiate with me sincerely, then we will have to resort to other means.”
Yu Wanyin looked at him and said, "It is a universal consensus that prisoners of war should not be tortured or killed."
“If this world were all mine,” the Northern Chi King looked at her coldly, “I could do whatever I wanted with them.”
Yu Wanyin took a deep breath. "Let them go."
The Northern Chi King asked in a low voice, "Then are you willing to talk?"
Yu Wanyin frowned, remained silent for a moment, and still looked like she had no choice but to speak, "He Lanjun."
The King of the North narrowed his eyes. "Are you colluding with Helan Jun?"
“Commander Helan once corresponded with us, saying that he also felt the war was endless and wanted to make a deal with us.” Yu Wanyin’s voice was indifferent. “The day Chu Yu was captured, he discussed with us that if we were willing to cooperate with him, we could eliminate Commander Shan Ze.”
"Then he can work with us from within and without to eliminate you, Your Majesty, and bring an end to the war in the Central Plains."
Yu Wanyin raised her head, "But I don't think he's accomplished anything. We waited all night yesterday for news from him but didn't get any."
"Otherwise, I wouldn't be here today, coerced by you from the Northern Chi camp."
As the Northern Chi King listened, his expression grew increasingly sinister, and his smile quickly turned into murderous intent. "You will naturally not live to see it."
Yesterday, he sent someone to keep an eye on Helan Jun, which is probably why Helan Jun has been unable to take any action to help them.
However, sending someone to check it out wouldn't be of much use.
The one or two they had just sent out were left behind by Helan Jun, and they couldn't be found for half the night.
He surrounded the entire camp, preventing any news from getting out, thus cutting off any possibility of someone tipping off the enemy.
He Lanjun only appeared this morning, and it's unknown what he did during the time he was missing.
That explains why Chu Yu had weapons on him.
Mugo was his subordinate, presumably an informant they had planted long ago.
No wonder Helan Jun reacted so strongly when Chu Yu came in and was snatched away by Shan Ze.
The King of the North connected all the causes and consequences himself.
Yu Wanyin toyed with the chess piece in her hand, staring intently at him. "I've told you everything you wanted to know."
"Release them."
The King of the North stared at her for a while.
Yu Wanyin frowned and urged, "This is what you promised me."
"If Your Majesty doesn't even have this much sincerity..."
The King of the North drew out his words, "Alright."
"I will keep my promise to you." He said, getting up and leading Yu Wanyin to the execution ground.
As they left the camp, they were instructed, "Open the camp and prepare to release the Han prisoners."
Large numbers of Hu soldiers went to clear the way.
King Bei Chi stopped outside the execution ground.
This refers to Yu Wanyin.
Yu Wanyin followed his gaze and immediately ran towards the execution platform.
Not long after Yu Wanyin left, a servant rushed in from outside, "Your Majesty!"
The Northern Chi King looked over and asked, "What's wrong? Why are you shouting like that?"
The attendant looked anxious. "Shan Chenjun has disappeared."
“This morning we sent men to bring her here, but Shan Chenjun’s camp guards inside and outside were nowhere to be seen, and she was not there either.”
The King of Bei Chi's expression changed instantly, and he asked sternly, "Who arranged the guard duty team yesterday?"
"He Lan, the head coach."
The King of the North paused slightly, "It's Helan Jun again."
He muttered the name over and over again, then turned to look at Yu Wanyin, who was already on the execution platform.
"Send men to keep an eye on her first, then bring her to my tent to wait for me." King Bei Chi said, turning to leave and handing the military tally to his attendant. "Have the Shan Yi brothers bring over Helan Jun's troops and immediately imprison him for interrogation!"
"yes."
On the execution platform, Chu Yu stared intently at the person who was about to be executed.
Until Yu Wanyin walked up to him and ordered someone to untie the restraints on his body.
Chu Yu stared intently at her. "Who sent you?"
Yu Wanyin also tore off the restraints binding him, saying, "I insisted on coming here myself."
Chu Yu frowned. "Go back."
"I'm not going back."
Yu Wanyin threw away the ropes. "I've come all this way, so you have to make my trip meaningful."
Chu Yu frowned deeply, unable to accept it. "If you come, I'd rather die."
Yu Wanyin stood in front of him, cupping his face in her hands, "Chu Yu, it is I who want you to live."
"We all have to live."
"You have to go out first," Yu Wanyin said softly, looking at him. "Then I can go out."
The Northern Chi soldiers immediately separated the two of them.
They led Chu Yu down from the high platform.
Yu Wanyin remains detained in the same place.
With Chu Yu leading the way, the prisoners of war from the execution ground were led one by one to the exit of the camp.
They would occasionally turn back to look at the graceful figure standing on the high platform.
She stood facing the rising morning sun, her skirt and sleeves fluttering, gazing quietly at them.
No one wanted to leave, but they had no choice but to.
The Han prisoners were divided into two parts. The first part to leave the camp consisted of the most seriously wounded true prisoners.
Behind them were their spies and accomplices planted to cover their retreat.
Meanwhile, in the camp not far away...
As the Northern Chi Dynasty led Helan Jun's camp halfway there, another military report arrived: "Your Majesty! Something terrible has happened! Mu Ge has led the Han prisoners in the jail in rebellion! General Shan Yi, he..."
A buzzing sound filled the ears of the Northern Chi King. He stared intently at the soldier who had come to deliver the message and muttered in a rough voice, "Mugo..."
“He Lanjun…”
"Pass down the military order! Whoever takes the heads of Helan Jun and the Mu family will be immediately appointed as a general!"
He Lanjun had just returned to his tent when countless soldiers stormed in!
The long sword came hurtling towards his neck without warning!
He Lanjun dodged the attack with a quick movement, blocking it with the hilt of his sword, only to realize it was a soldier from his own camp. "Are you crazy?! You're trying to cut me?!"
The man didn't say much to him and came straight for his life.
He Lanjun had no choice but to end his life with a single blow.
Soon a fight broke out outside his tent.
The sounds of weapons clashing rose and fell!
He Lanjun mentioned going outside, and seeing his deputy holding off a soldier rushing in, he shouted to him, "Commander, run!"
"By order of the king, whoever takes your head will be immediately appointed a general!"
Upon hearing this, He Lanjun was stunned, momentarily thinking he had misheard.
Another general came to pull Helan Jun away, saying, "Come on."
Helan Jun's eyes were bloodshot as he shook off his companion's hand. "I'm not leaving! Why are you trying to kill me?! What right does the Emperor have to kill me?"
Soon, Shan Xun received news of Shan Yi's death and barged into Helan Jun's camp.
He stared intently at Helan Jun and shouted, "By order of the Emperor, Helan has colluded with foreign enemies and harbors disloyal intentions. He shall be beheaded on the spot!"
"The soldiers in Helan Camp, withdraw your troops and enter our Shan Clan Camp!"
He Lanjun's subordinate general stepped forward, blocking his path. "When has our commander ever harbored any disloyal intentions?!"
"Over the years, the commander-in-chief has been loyal to His Majesty!"
"When His Majesty said he was going to war, even though the commander-in-chief's mother was seriously ill, he followed His Majesty without hesitation! He was willing to risk his life for His Majesty!"
"You are now slandering the commander-in-chief as disloyal?!"
"Enough with the nonsense, Helan Jun, you're going to die!" Shan Xun roared, his blade flashing menacingly before everyone's eyes!
He Lanjun's breathing was heavy as he stared intently at Shan Xun.
As Shan Xun charged forward, he gritted his teeth and stepped forward, engaging in a fierce battle with Shan Xun's swords!
A chaotic battle broke out in the camp.
Helan Jun mounted his horse, shouting, "Using me, doubting me, killing me! There is no justice in this world!"
"Loyalty must be killed, disloyalty must be killed! Even those who grovel in his camp as hostages must be killed! Well then, I'll rebel today, so what!"
Helan Jun shouted, "Soldiers, follow me and charge out!"
Yu Wanyin stood on the high platform when suddenly, she heard the sounds of battle coming from the eastern camp, the sounds soaring into the sky!
Soon, the soldiers stationed there ran out shouting, "Commander Helan has rebelled!"
Yu Wanyin's heart trembled slightly as she looked at the sudden outbreak of war and conflict.
My tense nerves finally relaxed.
Almost simultaneously, the informants lying in ambush on all sides ignited the gunpowder they had previously moved!
The smell of gunpowder instantly filled the Northern Chi camp!
The prisoners of war, who were halfway through their retreat, suddenly saw an opportunity in each other's eyes!
The prisoners of war spies planted in the back row tore open the already loose chains on their hands and attacked the Northern Chi soldiers guarding the prisoners, seizing their weapons!
The Hu people were shocked. "They... their chains have openings! Who left them open...?"
Before he could finish speaking, the sound of a large army attacking erupted outside the Northern Chi camp.
That was the sound of Rong Si and Chu Yu's troops breaking in!
The camp entrance opened by releasing prisoners of war was completely breached by troops who suddenly stormed in!
The vanguard commander, Rong Si, suddenly appeared in the Northern Chi camp.
Wu Zhou whistled and summoned a warhorse to Chu Yu.
Chu Yu immediately mounted his horse, turned around, took the long sword handed to him by Chao Yue, and together they charged into the Northern Chi camp!
The camp was instantly filled with the sounds of chaos and fighting.
The Hu man standing beside Yu Wanyin suddenly realized something, drew his sword, and walked towards Yu Wanyin in a few steps.
He yanked Yu Wanyin onto the rack and shouted, "Stop it, all of you!"
"If she dares to make any rash moves, she will..."
Before the barbarian could finish speaking, Yu Wanyin heard the sharp sound of a blade whistling past her ear!
She was startled and hurriedly closed her eyes, but she did not experience the expected pain.
Something splashed on her.
Then the stench of blood filled the air, and a heavy object fell to the ground beside him with a thud. He lost his footing on the execution platform and fell off.
Yu Wanyin subconsciously opened her eyes, but as soon as she saw the blood all over the ground, a warm hand covered her eyes.
A slight buzzing sound filled my ears, as if instantly shutting out the noise of the camp.
All she could hear was her own rapid breathing and heartbeat.
And then there was Rong Si's hoarse, deep voice, "Yaoyao, don't look."
