Chapter 13 She Argued with a Child
Zhao Youchang put away his bow and crossbow, standing steadily in the howling wind, his body as straight as a peerless sword drawn from its sheath.
His dashing appearance made Song Li blush.
—She suspected yesterday that this guy had been gored by a wild boar in the foothills, and today she herself suffered the same danger. It's not like she was proven wrong at lightning speed, but it's certainly at sonic speed.
"sister!"
Song Xiaoxiao rushed over and buried herself in Song Li's arms like a bullet, her small body trembling uncontrollably.
She almost didn't have a sister.
Song Li patted her head and laughed, "It's okay, it's okay..."
While busy putting the utility knife back into his storage space.
If Zhao Youchang hadn't made his move, she was prepared to fight the wild boar with this knife. However, the utility knife blade was thin, and she wasn't confident she could pierce the boar's bristly body. She planned to wait for the beast to open its mouth and then stab it into its oral cavity.
But she wasn't sure if Zhao Youchang had seen the bright yellow plastic knife handle.
The scene was somewhat awkward.
Song Li got up from the ground, grasped the arrow fletching, pulled the arrow out of the wild boar's head, and handed it back to Zhao Youchang.
The latter took it expressionlessly, turned around and went to the stream to wash it.
Song Li pulled Song Xiaoxiao along and jogged down the mountain.
As soon as she got home, Song Li went into the backyard and started making whitening foundation according to the recipe.
Originally, the Song family consisted of the elderly couple, Song Xiaogu, and Song Da's five brothers and sisters. Later, Song Da got married, and a year later, the original owner of this body was born, making a family of ten, a lively and large family.
Therefore, the house was built very large, with four rooms and a front yard in the front, and four rooms and a back yard in the back. The front and back yards were connected by a passageway for storing miscellaneous items. Although it consisted of thatched houses and fenced yards, it was still quite large.
Now, the three members of the Zhao family live in the front yard, while Song Li and her younger sister live in the back yard. They can live separately or together, without interfering with each other.
Song Li then rummaged around in the yard.
The recipe was very precise, even specifying how many times to stir the ingredients, whether to stir clockwise or counterclockwise. Following the instructions, she quickly made her first batch of foundation.
I tried it on the back of my hand, and it felt refreshing and didn't cause sweating. It's lightweight, absorbs quickly, and has a good and natural whitening effect. It's great.
Moreover, it is made entirely from herbs, without any chemical additives, making it purely natural and pollution-free.
Absolutely top quality!
Song Li spooned the prepared foundation into bamboo tubes that she had prepared in advance in the space the night before.
She planted a small bamboo grove in the garden, and yesterday she cut some bamboo and sawed it into small sections about five inches long to use as containers.
Song Xiaoxiao squatted down beside her, watching Song Li pack the food curiously, and asked, "Sister, what is this? Can we eat it?"
This stuff was made from mashed flower petals and berries, and it smelled wonderfully sweet. With the addition of fresh nectar, she imagined it must be sweet.
Song Li patiently explained, "We can't eat them, but if all goes well, we'll be able to make a living from them in the future."
In ancient times, people used either hot and humid glutinous rice flour or toxic lead powder to whiten their skin. Her whitening foundation directly addresses a market pain point. However, as a newcomer to the market, she is unfamiliar with the local cosmetics market and therefore cannot guarantee a large sales volume.
Song Li divided the bamboo tubes into twenty portions, sealing each tube with mud for preservation. She planned to use the remaining portion as trial packs for product promotion.
"Hey, kids, come here."
Song Li walked outside and beckoned to the few little kids playing outside the fenced yard.
The mischievous boys who were squatting on the ground mixing mud, intending to smash the crazy girl's window with mud clods, were stunned.
He was arrested just like that?
They... haven't thrown them away yet!
The innocent eyes, which had been tainted with hostility by the prejudices of adults, were now filled with bewilderment.
"Come here!" Song Li called again.
"What do you want to do?" The bravest child walked over.
It's strange, but even though they wanted to teach this shameless crazy girl who was chasing after men a lesson, they ended up feeling guilty themselves.
Thinking this, the boy's face showed resentment again.
Song Li acted as if she hadn't seen it, tossing a small seashell in her hand: "Have you seen this kind of seashell before?"
The boy pursed his lips and nodded. "I've seen it before. It's on the mudflats at the village entrance."
Song Li then said, "I need these seashells. You can go and collect them for me, and then come back to me to exchange them for copper coins."
The boy was full of suspicion and remained silent.
"You? Do you even have money?" The speaker was another child, his tone full of disdain.
"Exactly!" a child chimed in.
Song Li didn't care and said, "Of course I don't have any money."
As he spoke, he took out ten copper coins from his purse. "Well, that's all I have. Twenty seashells for one copper coin. First come, first served, until they're all gone. You can decide for yourselves."
After saying that, he led Song Xiaoxiao inside.
Behind her, several mischievous boys looked at each other in bewilderment.
"Brother Tiger Egg, will she really give us the money?"
Are they playing a trick on them?
The adults in her family said that the crazy girl had offended many people in the village, and everyone disliked her. Given that, it was possible that the crazy girl wanted to find an opportunity to take revenge.
"Tch, you actually believe what she says? Are you stupid?"
Just as someone was about to nod, they saw Qian Hudan running straight towards the village entrance.
"Hey, Tiger Egg Bro, where are you going?"
Hearing his companions shout, Qian Hudan ran even faster.
Those are copper coins! They're enough to buy steamed buns for my toothless grandma. Why not earn them?
The people behind him finally realized what he was up to and quickly gave chase.
"Qian! Hu! Dan! You liar!"
...
Seeing the boys running off in a flurry, Song Li shrugged and continued walking into the house.
She needs to make trial packs, so she can't use bamboo tubes for packaging anymore; that would be too disadvantageous.
However, there were no plastic bags or sealing machines in ancient times, and since foundation is a liquid, it was obviously not safe to package it with leaves.
So she thought of the little seashell.
But picking them up one by one is too troublesome. It would be better to mobilize the masses and, incidentally, disrupt the unity of the enemy so that they can't gang up on her.
Sure enough, just after noon, someone called from outside the backyard.
Song Li came out and opened the back door.
The same group of mischievous boys from this morning were standing outside, but they all had some bruises on their faces—they had fought over who would hand over the seashells first.
Song Li snorted inwardly, pretending not to see it.
It was wrong of her to keep them hanging on with copper coins, but who told them to mock her?
She's so petty for arguing with a child!
Song Li gave money to the three children at the front without any expression.
Qian Hudan held the copper coin in disbelief.
He made money just by picking up a few seashells that nobody wanted?
"Will you still want seashells in the future?" he asked hesitantly.
Song Li said calmly, "I don't know, we'll see."
After saying that, he closed the door behind him.
Go back inside, fill a basin with water, and let the seashells breathe to expel the sand.
The shells can be used to hold trial packs of whitening foundation, while the clam meat is picked out beforehand and used to make soup.
A win-win situation.
