Chapter 1
Chika has been trapped here for a long time.
The night was as dark as ink, and the rain poured down. Although she couldn't see what was happening ahead, the roaring sounds around her told her—
Danger was very close to her!
A bolt of lightning flashed overhead, and her vision suddenly cleared. In that instant, her heart sank to the bottom.
If she wasn't mistaken, the roaring things were humanoid monsters, each with scarlet eyes and sharp teeth, closing in on her.
But! Sitting idly by and waiting to die is not an option!
Chika tried to concentrate her Nen, gathering it at her fingertips, transforming the "Nen" into blue electric arcs, and then waving her hand down.
"Clang—"
Wherever her finger touched, thunder roared like a vicious dog, exploding incessantly.
The monster that was hit in the distance was instantly torn apart, its claws twitched twice, and then it collapsed to the ground with a thud.
At least in her view, it looked like there was absolutely no chance of survival.
However, she was stunned the next moment.
Because of them, they got up again.
They didn't slow down; instead, they pounced on her with even greater speed and ferocity.
Chika intensified her Nen and raised her hand to strike them again.
"Sizzle—"
The monster that was hit shuddered twice and collapsed to the ground, unable to get up.
Before long, they got up again.
Hesitation will lead to trouble. Chika raised her hand and slapped them again.
"Sizzle—" The monster fell to the ground.
Before long, they got up again.
The rapid loss of her spiritual energy quickly exhausted her, and she felt irritated. "This is endless, what is this thing?"
"Clang—"
Thunder rumbled overhead, and the rain intensified.
Chika looked at the big tree beside her and immediately had an idea.
She decided to use trees as a medium to pave her own path—
"Thunder Domain Unfolds"
"Sizzle~~"
Chika enveloped her entire body in Nen, then released it, spreading outwards in a circle around herself. She raised her finger to the sky, and blue arcs of light crackled at her fingertips.
"Bang!"
A massive bolt of lightning ripped through the sky, striking straight down and rapidly spreading along her fingertips.
The electric arc network exploded and spread in all directions, instantly electrifying all the evil spirits, rendering them frozen in place and unable to move.
Her internal energy was also on the verge of collapse. Her legs went weak, and she leaned against the tree, slowly sitting down.
"Hey! Cheer up!"
With her head spinning, Qianxia had just caught her breath against the tree when a roar suddenly exploded in her ears. With a "bang," she was grabbed by something and thrown far away.
Her heart tightened, and her fingers twitched slightly, almost instinctively wanting to chop again.
He looked up abruptly, but was stunned.
The person who arrived was not a disgusting monster, but a face so handsome that it was impossible to ignore.
Chika shrank back and distanced herself, only to discover that the other person was actually a boy about the same age as her.
Her beautiful white hair danced in the wind, her brow bones were sharp, and several scars ran across the bridge of her nose, making her eyes look as sharp as knives.
He wore a black stand-up collar military uniform underneath a white overcoat. His slightly exposed chest was covered with battle scars of varying depths, and the blade of the knife he gripped tightly gleamed with a cold, sharp light.
He looked dignified and upright.
As Chinatsu sized up Sanemi, Sanemi was also sizing her up.
The girl in his arms was tiny; her head barely reached his chin.
Her small, round face, no bigger than a palm, and her clear, bright almond-shaped eyes were darting around, observing him without any shyness.
Her attire was peculiar.
The fluffy white coat felt as soft as animal fur, yet it was clearly not. The pair of rabbit ears hanging down behind him were incredibly soft to the touch, like glutinous rice balls filled with cream. He unconsciously softened his grip, afraid of accidentally breaking them.
What surprised him even more was her. At this moment, she was like a little rabbit. Faced with such danger, she neither screamed nor struggled, and was unusually quiet.
This unusual calmness inexplicably eased his agitated mood.
Are you alright?
Out of concern, he still asked in a hoarse voice.
Qianxia was stunned; the sudden loud voice made her ears ring.
She glanced at the large tree not far away, where a huge blue arc of electricity was striking. The arc exploded, scorching the entire tree black, and hissing and flowing through the weeds.
But what shocked her was not the electric arc, but the distance.
That place is at least fifteen meters away from where she is now.
If her senses were correct, just as the lightning struck, this boy, who had no Nen abilities whatsoever, had teleported her here.
Wow, that's amazing! How did you do that?
The boy noticed her distraction and stiffly patted her head.
"Don't be afraid, I'm not a bad person."
His thick, warm palm landed on her head, bringing a strange sense of security. As he patted her head, Qianxia instinctively shrank back.
So, did he treat her like an ordinary person?
Wow! Although he wasn't the first to treat her like an ordinary person.
Should we refuse?
Tell him that she is not an ordinary person.
However, the unfamiliar environment...
hiss--
"Eek!" Chika hugged her arms and shrank back, her eyes shimmering. "I'm so scared~"
As usual, I'll put on an act, play it by ear, and not let this baby face down.
Sanemi's hand froze in mid-air, his eyes filled with unconcealed anger mixed with heartache. "Don't be afraid, I'm from the Demon Slayer Corps, I specialize in killing those kinds of things."
His voice softened slightly, "Once we've killed them all, we'll take you out."
us?
Chinatsu's eyes flashed slightly.
Are there other people?
With her rosy cheeks, she responded softly in a high-pitched voice, "Mmm~"
Suddenly, the wind and clouds rose, and amidst flashes of lightning and thunder, the boy vanished in a flash.
Moments later, the ashes of the monsters, having been slaughtered, covered the entire jungle.
As dawn broke, a boy with bandages wrapped around his face and a small white snake coiled around his neck landed beside her. Holding a sword, he spoke expressionlessly, "Shinzogawa, what do you plan to do with this girl?"
The white-haired boy returned to her side, his expression complex.
His name is Shinazugawa?
Chika tilted her head and looked at the person next to her, blinking her big eyes and trying her best to appear well-behaved.
“Take them back. The people here…”
Before Shinazugawa could finish speaking, Chika had already silently continued in her mind: none of the people here had survived.
She knew this from the very beginning.
"Mm." Obanai Iguro nodded gently.
As dusk settles, the ancient cobblestone street stretches out beneath our feet, the vermilion lanterns on both sides go out one by one, and the rising sun illuminates the colorful clothes of the passersby.
Chinatsu lay on Shinazugawa Sanemi's back, watching the unfamiliar world unfold before her eyes.
Those buildings with their upturned eaves, those strangely dressed passersby, and even the evil spirit that had just vanished into thin air before her, all silently proclaimed one fact—
This is no longer her original world.
Shinazugawa's back was broad and warm, and even when he carried her for miles, his breathing remained steady and without any disorder.
Obanai Iguro, who was traveling with him, kept casting probing glances at him. The white snake coiled around his neck flicked its tongue, gleaming coldly in the sunlight.
"So... what exactly are demons? And what kind of organization is the Demon Slayer Corps?" Chika asked tentatively.
The air suddenly froze.
The two swordsmen fell silent simultaneously, as if they had touched upon some taboo. Only the wind whistled in their ears, swirling up a few withered leaves.
"We'll talk about it when we get to our destination," Shimi said, cutting off all questions and answers.
Chika wisely kept quiet.
The moment the blindfold was removed, wisteria blossoms cascaded down like a purple waterfall.
Nestled amidst a sea of flowers, an ancient mansion stands quietly, its air filled with the fragrance of blossoms yet carrying a chilling, icy edge.
Inside the mansion, Chika sat on the floor, and soon a group of people surrounded her.
"What's your name? Where are you from?"
A girl wearing a butterfly hair ornament handed over a cup of hot tea at just the right moment, speaking gently.
"My name is Chika."
Chika responded softly, her gaze sweeping over everyone's faces, "From Meteor City."
The air in the room froze.
The butterfly hair ornament swayed gently as the girl turned her head. She looked at Sanemi Shinazugawa, then turned to Obanai Iguro.
"Never heard of it!"
"have no idea."
Is it the name of a street?
The butterfly girl pondered for a moment, then asked, "So, how did you get to this village on the outskirts of Tokyo?"
A village on the outskirts of Tokyo?
Chika repeated the name in her mind.
Unfamiliar, I've never heard of it.
Since that's the case...
"I...I don't remember."
Chika bit her lower lip, her fingers unconsciously twisting the hem of her clothes. "My brother and I went on an adventure to the Dark Continent. When I woke up, we were surrounded by terrifying ghosts, and then this big brother appeared..."
Her voice trailed off, trembling just the right amount, "How terrifying."
Sanemi and Obanai Iguro exchanged glances, while the girl with the butterfly hair ornament sighed helplessly.
How pitiful. It is said that there is no one left alive in that village.
"Do you want to stay at the Butterfly Mansion?" Shinobu Kocho reached out and ruffled her hair. "You're safe here."
Chika glanced at Shinazugawa and asked, "Would this older brother be here?"
"Hmm~~" Shinobu Kocho shook her head, "Shinzogawa lives outside."
“I see,” Qianxia’s eyes flickered slightly, and she lowered her gaze.
In the quiet environment, everyone thought she would agree, including Sanemi.
However.
"I don't want to."
Chika refused.
"Hmm?" Shinobu Kocho was a little surprised. "Why?"
Chika looked up, gazing directly into Shinazugawa's eyes. "Can I go with you?"
Sanemi refused without even thinking: "No way!!"
The girl's eyes instantly welled up with tears, her lips trembled, and her whole face scrunched up in a grimace.
Sanmi immediately sensed something was wrong.
Then.....
"Waaaaah... Waaaaah... Waaaaah..."
"Waaaaah—"
A piercing wail echoed through the sky.
......
Sanemi never felt that she had saved a troublesome person, and she never regretted bringing her back to the Butterfly Mansion.
Logically speaking, he shouldn't have brought her back, but he just couldn't bear to see her so pitiful.
Then......
He then realized he was wrong.
This guy isn't just a nuisance, he's a huge nuisance.
From the bustling streets to the Butterfly Mansion, Chinatsu always acted as a quiet, suffering girl.
Everything changed after she heard the full story about the ghost.
She clung to his leg like a frightened little animal.
Whenever someone tries to pull her away, she lets out a scream powerful enough to shatter glass.
Shinobu tried to coax her with candy, but she turned away and dodged; Obanai Iguro tried to intimidate her with a serious expression, but only got a louder cry in return.
Sanemi looked down at the person clinging to his lap like a koala and suddenly had a strong sense of foreboding.
The nurse at the Butterfly House, Kanzaki Aoi, insisted on keeping her for one night, but packed her up and sent her back the next day: "I can't take her with me, I simply can't."
Kanzaki Aoi looked helpless. "She howled all night on the roof, making the whole Butterfly Mansion think a ghost had entered, which seriously affected the rest of the other injured patients."
Sanemi was determined not to get involved in this trouble, so he turned and left.
But he underestimated the girl's perseverance.
On the day of the routine pillar meeting, the little guy managed to evade all the hidden eyes and ears and rushed into the meeting room with Shinobu Kocho.
The hidden members turned pale with fright. The four of them chased after her, barely daring to breathe, but they couldn't even touch the hem of her clothes.
This scene left everyone speechless, even Kagaya Ubuyashiki showed surprise on his face.
Everyone present broke out in a cold sweat, their knives humming in their hands. If she dared to do anything reckless, they could cut her down in a few breaths.
But this guy seemed to have seen through the situation perfectly. By the time everyone reacted, she was already hugging Sanemi's leg, clinging to his waistband and crying her eyes out.
Sanemi was so annoyed that his head was about to explode. He had never been clung to like this before, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get rid of him.
But the little guy was dressed in soft, fluffy clothes, like a lump of cotton, so he didn't dare to exert any force.
Ubuyashiki raised his hand to calm everyone down, then looked down at the girl who was clutching Sanemi's clothes. His expression was subtle; it was probably the first time he had seen such a contradictory person, yet he wasn't unpleasant to look at.
He looked at the rabbit ears twitching on her back and softened his voice: "Good girl, what's wrong with you?"
Sobbing uncontrollably, Chika's voice was muffled and full of grievance: "Big brother doesn't want me anymore, he wants to kick me out."
Upon hearing this, the lord couldn't help but chuckle.
Sanemi, whose leg was being clung to, was extremely anxious. Everyone's gaze was subtly falling on him, making him so embarrassed that he wanted to disappear into the ground.
Now everyone knows that he picked up a homeless, restless troublemaker who almost ruined the Huangzhu meeting.
Sanemi gritted his teeth, utterly bewildered as to how this little guy had managed to cling to him like that.
Butterfly Ninja chirped softly beside her, "A baby bird complex."
Mitsuri Kanroji immediately added thoughtfully, "It's the first person the little bird sees when it opens its eyes; it becomes especially attached to them~"
Obanai Iguro chuckled softly and added, "Sanemi Mama~"
Sanemi: "..."
