Chapter Thirty-Two

Chapter Thirty-Two

"Let me introduce myself. My name is Chika, I come from Meteor City, I am a Transmutation type, a professional mercenary and part-time assassin."

Chika leaned against the tatami mat, her hands neatly folded on her knees, sitting upright like the most obedient student in class. Her head was tilted slightly, her long hair slipping down her shoulders, and the crimson in her eyes looked like two blooming pomegranate flowers in the dim light.

At this moment, the Fujikazeyama team members who were playing cards with Chinatsu in the basement had long since left, leaving only Shinobu Kocho and Sanemi.

As pillars, they had traveled all over the country, but they had never heard of anything like Meteor City or Transformation System.

They didn't know what mercenaries were, but assassins...

Genmi cleared his throat and asked the first question, "Where is Meteor City?"

"It's located in the southern part of the Yulbian Continent, on the same continent as Yorknew City. But you might not know that. Meteor City has about ten million people," Chika explained.

"......"

The crowd exchanged bewildered glances, unsure whether she was telling the truth or just making things up.

"What are mercenaries?" Xuanmi asked cautiously.

"It's kind of a job title." Chika smiled, her eyes crinkling to reveal two small, sharp teeth. "Someone pays me, and I help them complete tasks—like taking on a commission! It's a bit like Lord Uzui Tengen's ninja."

Sanemi crossed his arms, his brow furrowed. "Take on a commission? What kind of commission?"

Chika lightly tapped her chin with her index finger, tilting her head slightly back as if recalling something. "Most of the time I was a bodyguard, escorting goods, or protecting important people."

Then she let out a soft "Ah," clenched her left fist and tapped it against her right palm, making a gesture of sudden realization, "Occasionally I also take on some murder cases, or help people steal things."

She swung her dangling foot, her tone still light and cheerful, "Anyway, as long as the pay is right, I'll do anything!"

Everyone present fell silent. Staring at the seemingly innocent girl on the bed, they felt a chill run down their spines.

They didn't quite understand how she could say the word "murder" so easily, as if it were as casually as when she said "kill a ghost."

Under everyone's gaze, Chika seemed to finally stop hiding and reveal her most authentic self—

That day, she was as innocent as a child, yet she exuded a sharp aura that came from years of experience.

Innocence and danger intertwined within her...

It was quite abrupt.

There's something about her that she shouldn't be like this.

Sanemi crossed his arms and said, "Why did you pretend to be like that before?"

Chinatsu tilted her head and made a "Hmm~?" sound before asking, "What kind of way? You mean, pretending to be a child?"

No one spoke, but their eyes clearly said: What do you think?

Chika coughed lightly twice, then tucked her legs in with a pitiful expression, her fingers unconsciously twisting the hem of her clothes, looking weak and helpless.

"Don't blame me..." she complained softly. "I was a newcomer to this world and was chased by ghosts all night. I was so scared. Then Sanemi suddenly appeared, and Obanai Iguro had a snake around her neck. Of course I was scared."

She raised her watery red eyes and looked at everyone timidly like a small animal. "I'm sorry, I was just instinctively pretending. Later... I knew everyone was a good person, but I had already started to deceive them. Everyone believed me, so I didn't know how to explain myself anymore."

She lowered her head, playing with the ends of her hair, her voice soft and sweet, "As everyone knows, one lie requires ten thousand lies to cover it up..."

“Actually,” she said softly, her fingers nervously twisting together, “the reason I haven’t explained it clearly is because I’m afraid you’ll abandon me…”

“But!” Chika suddenly raised her head. “Now I know that instead of continuing to hide it, it’s better to be honest. I am strong, and I should use this power to fight alongside you.”

Before the last word had even faded, she let out a few soft sobs, her shoulders trembling slightly, "Please, I love you all the most."

Chinatsu has always known how to use her appearance as an advantage. Although she hasn't spent much time with the Demon Slayer Corps, she has already figured out their personalities.

These people appear cold and hard on the surface, but they are all soft-hearted at heart.

As expected, the group of people who had been so aggressive and ready to settle scores had now unconsciously relaxed a bit.

Chika keenly sensed this shift in the situation and immediately pressed her advantage.

“Actually, I’ve been secretly killing demons all along!” She raised her head, her eyes sincere. “If you don’t believe me, ask Genmi. Think about it carefully, you should have noticed something too.”

She paused briefly, her fingertips lightly touching her chest. "My Nen ability is this—"

As soon as she finished speaking, an unfamiliar pressure suddenly erupted from her body. To everyone's astonishment, blue and white arcs of electricity began to dance around her without warning.

With a soft "hiss," Chika's hair instantly transformed into a dazzling blue-white, with electric sparks flowing between the strands, as if she were enveloped in a hazy electric glow.

She tilted her head to look at everyone, her eyes appearing even more crimson in the electric light, yet with a touch of innocence. "Actually, I'm very capable, you know."

Sanemi's brow furrowed even more. He stepped forward, his hand already resting on the hilt of his Nichirin Blade.

"Oh, how amazing is 'amazing'?"

Qianxia blinked, the arcs of electricity around her pulsating slightly with her emotions. "Very, very powerful."

She extended her index finger, a tiny spark of electricity dancing at its tip. "Everyone is welcome to try me out!"

Shinazugawa Sanemi couldn't stand such words. He sneered and drew his Nichirin Blade. "Then, let's try it?"

Shinobu Kocho let out a soft "Ah-la," stepped between the two, and pointed to the top of her head, "But now is not a good time to make gestures."

Everyone looked in the direction Shinobu Kocho was pointing. Sparse sunlight was streaming in through the gaps in the sunlight overhead, and it was then that everyone realized it was still early morning.

Sanemi Shinazugawa gave a cold snort and sheathed his sword again. "Then you'll see tonight."

He made cold remarks, and Qianxia also suppressed her aura. The lightning disappeared instantly, and her hair returned to its original color.

She transformed back into the obedient, sitting girl.

"Alright, alright, tonight, let me show you what I can do for the Demon Slayer Corps?"

"Of course, if I behave well, could I get an extra braised pork knuckle as a reward? Or..."

She tilted her head, revealing her cute little fangs.

"Can I have a pillar to seal it? I've already thought of a name: Ghost Pillar! What do you think?"

Sanemi was silent for a moment, then raised his hand and slapped her on the top of her head.

"You're dreaming."

Chika didn't dodge, but let him hit her hair, making it sway back and forth. Then she touched her head and smiled.

She knew that taking them down would be a piece of cake.

“By the way,” Shinobu Kocho said, resting her hands on her knees as she looked at her, “could you give me a little more of your blood?”

“Sure!” Qianxia rolled up her sleeves without hesitation. “Plus portions, all you can eat.”

These words were so honest that Shinobu Kocho was speechless, and even the last bit of resentment in her heart dissipated.

She hates ghosts the most, and her greatest wish in this life is to slaughter all the evil ghosts in the world, especially the murderer who hurt her sister and made her sister remain in a coma.

But Chika was, after all, the child she had watched turn from a human into a ghost, and besides, she was so special that she didn't look like a ghost at all.

If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes—that she was afraid of light—she wouldn't have been sure she'd become a ghost.

Thinking of this, Shinobu Kocho sighed, "Um, by the way, do you know your own physical condition? The blood in your body."

"I have never seen blood like this before. Every drop is deadly. I tried to use drugs to eliminate a certain poison, but the drugs were countered by the poison instead."

Chika nodded. "I know. I've been undergoing poison tolerance training since I was nine years old, and it hasn't changed in over a decade. Now, a single drop of poison that could kill a whale can be metabolized in about thirty minutes... I guess."

"But my master is even more amazing; he can metabolize it in ten minutes. But I can't compare to him; he's a genius."

Shinobu Kocho: "Impressive."

Sanemi, who was standing to the side, was taken aback for a moment. "Wait, you started training at the age of nine and haven't changed in over ten years? How old are you this year?"

Chinatsu blinked, and then...

"Eeya~~"

She shyly covered her face, "Don't ask girls their age~ It's a secret~"

Sanemi: "......"

I want to punch her.
