Chapter Thirty-Nine: Preparing Ingredients for Tomorrow!

Although noodles have been added, it seems that everyone still prefers the fragrant, meat and vegetable-filled boxed lunches.

"Auntie, four bowls of noodles!"

So far, only four people have ordered noodles. More people will probably order later, but we can't delay the people who ordered first.

When Grandma Liu heard her being called, she responded and began cutting noodles.

She's been cooking for half her life, and she knows exactly how to portion out each bowl of noodles. She quickly brought out four bowls of noodles.

Pei Yuezhi took it, drizzled it with fragrant sauce, and handed it to the guest.

"These noodles are so chewy, and the combination of eggs and green peppers is just so delicious."

"These noodles have been rinsed, haven't they? Eating a bowl of rinsed noodles in the summer is really refreshing."

The group slurped up the noodles with gusto, looking incredibly satisfied, which made the other diners' mouths water.

There were even more customers today than yesterday, including several new customers. Before Pei Yuezhi could even explain the prices, the other customers kindly started explaining them to her.

More customers meant that things sold out faster; the vegetables were gone in no time, and a lot of noodles were sold as well.

Pei Yuezhi served the food, while Liu Yuanyuan was responsible for clearing the table and washing the dishes. Grandma Liu was in the back kitchen, rolling out dough and washing dishes together.

After most of the people had left, all three of them were exhausted.

"Yueyue, so many guests came today, I'm a little overwhelmed," Liu Yuanyuan said, leaning on the cleaned table.

Pei Yuezhi was also exhausted, rubbing her arms: "I've been cooking big pot dishes and serving rice, my arms are killing me. The worst part is doing the accounting, I almost couldn't figure it out."

The three of them tidied up the kitchen. Pei Yuezhi pretended to take out four dishes from the cupboard and, when no one was watching, said she was going to heat up the leftovers and told Liu Yuanyuan and the other two to go home and wait for dinner.

Liu Yuanyuan and her mother-in-law went home first. Pei Yuezhi took out the dishes from her space, which were still warm. She stayed in the shop for a short while before hurrying back.

We need to eat quickly, or we'll starve. Besides, Grandma Liu still has to take the oxcart home.

Now that it's summer and the days are long, the oxcart usually goes back around 3 p.m., and they finish their work around 2 p.m., which is just enough time for Grandma Liu to have lunch before going back.

The leftovers were left over today, and everyone ate to their heart's content. After the sumptuous meal, Pei Yuezhi and Liu Yuanyuan stayed in bed and refused to get up.

Selling pancakes was tiring enough, but now it feels even more tiring because I have to calculate the money, which is mentally exhausting.

After resting, Pei Yuezhi and Liu Yuanyuan got together again to chat about the money they had earned that day.

"We sold twenty bowls of noodles today, which brings in 1,150 coins, more than yesterday including the afternoon."

"Wow, that's a lot! It's a pity there aren't many people here at night, otherwise we could earn even more. Why don't we stay in the shop this afternoon? If there are customers, we can serve them; if not, we can prepare dishes in the kitchen," Liu Yuanyuan suggested.

Pei Yuezhi nodded, agreeing that it was also a feasible option.

The two of them took their three children to the store, and sure enough, people came in to eat as soon as the store opened.

A few people came; they were all familiar faces. They said they saw the door open and thought there would be boxed lunches for dinner.

Pei Yuezhi told them that they could make some fried noodles or fried rice for dinner, and if no one was home, they could also cook a few dishes.

However, most of the people here are working, and few are willing to spend money on stir-fried dishes; they usually order fried rice or fried noodles instead.

During this dinner time, we sold six servings of fried noodles and seven servings of fried rice. After the dinner time, there were no more customers.

Pei Yuezhi closed the door and began to plan what to do tomorrow.

Several people were talking at once, listing several dishes. Pei Yuezhi, having already taken note of what was going on, quickly called for a stop. The four of them were talking at once, creating a chaotic mess.

Tomorrow I'll make twice-cooked pork, shredded pork with garlic sauce, braised eggplant, and spicy potato slices.

Thinking about it made me hungry.

It's getting late, let's get all the materials ready!

The three children continued peeling scallions and garlic, while Pei Yuezhi and Liu Yuanyuan prepared the ingredients.

For twice-cooked pork, pork rump or leg meat is better, so Pei Yuezhi bought pork rump, along with garlic sprouts, carrots, wood ear mushrooms, green peppers, and eggplant. Potatoes were out of stock, but they couldn't be bought in the special offer section; the regular price in the mall was only one coin for two jin (approximately 1 kg). These were all the ingredients she needed.

First, singe the pig skin with fire, then scrape it clean with a knife. Put it in a pot of cold water with scallions, ginger, and peppercorns. After the water boils, skim off the foam and cook the meat until tender. Keep the heat low throughout the process and cook for about 15 minutes. Then soak it in water for about 15 minutes.

Meat cooked this way won't be dry.

Then you can take it out and slice it, trying to slice it as thinly as possible, with the fat and lean parts connected, and the slices being of uniform thickness.

Smash the garlic shoots with a knife, slice them diagonally, and cut the garlic shoots into sections. The ingredients for twice-cooked pork are now ready.

While Pei Yuezhi was preparing the twice-cooked pork, Liu Yuanyuan had already soaked the wood ear mushrooms and washed the green peppers and carrots. The vegetables needed to be cut into thin strips, which she wasn't very good at, so she waited for Pei Yuezhi to do it.

Pei Yuezhi took out the pork tenderloin, cut it into thin strips, and put it all into her spatial storage for later use.

As for the eggplant and potatoes, we can prepare them tomorrow.

Time flew by while they were working, and it got dark. Pei Yuezhi hadn't eaten much at noon and hadn't eaten dinner either, so she was getting hungry.

"Are you hungry? I'm so hungry. Let's go home and make something to eat."

The group nodded repeatedly, clearly hungry.

I wasn't planning on making dough today. Tomorrow I'll be cooking stir-fries, so I can make a lot. If the bowls don't hold it all, I can put it in the pot.

One of the spicy potato slices is served cold; you can make a whole bowl of it without heating it up.

There are three pots left, each with some leftover food inside.

So I didn't make the dough, and I don't plan to sell braised noodles tomorrow.

But now I'm hungry and I don't know what to cook. If it were just me and Liu Yuanyuan, it would be easy; we could buy anything from the mall.

Now that there are three children, we can't exactly bring out any weird or unusual food.

Pei Yuezhi thought for a moment and decided to make some stir-fried noodles.

Eating noodles for dinner is easier to digest. A big, hot, and fragrant bowl of noodles—it's been so long since I've had them.

They acted immediately; you can't underestimate a foodie's drive.

First, I kneaded the dough, and ended up kneading quite a lot more than I intended. Then I rolled out some hand-pulled noodles.

Heat oil in a wok, add some shredded pork tenderloin that you'll be using tomorrow, stir-fry until it changes color, then add scallions and garlic, stir-fry until fragrant, then add some wood ear mushrooms and a little carrot.

Seeing this, Liu Yuanyuan, who was watching the fire from the side, said, "Is this a version of shredded pork with garlic sauce?"

"Just put in whatever you have on hand, as long as it tastes good."

Stir-fry for a while, then add water, salt, chicken bouillon, thirteen-spice powder, light soy sauce, and dark soy sauce.

Once the water boils, you can add the noodles.

Boil for seven or eight minutes, then add some garlic sprouts and boil for another minute before taking it out of the pot.

Drizzle with a little vinegar and sesame oil, and this big bowl of hot and flavorful stir-fried noodles is incredibly delicious. It's perfect for dinner.

Each person was served a bowl and slurped up the noodles.
