Chapter 108 The Dream of Ouroboros is Dissonant
A few days later, Shao Yanzhe was told he could be discharged from the hospital. He packed his things and walked out of the hospital.
He had just stood at the hospital entrance when a silver car with its red lights on flew down from the sky and came to a smooth stop in front of him. The car door opened with a "whoosh," revealing the seats inside.
Seeing this, Shao Yanzhe was dumbfounded.
He probably only slept for three days, right?
Instead of falling asleep and never waking up, hundreds of years would have passed by the time the outside world had developed to its current absurd state.
But then, his memories told him that this was normal, and that he himself also owned a hovercar.
Shao Yanzhe fell silent. Although his memory seemed to be working, he still felt that something was off about the scene before him.
The scene before me seemed surreal; seeing such a sight always felt somewhat unreal.
"Hey! Bro! Want to get in the car?" Seeing that Shao Yanzhe was taking his time getting in, the driver finally couldn't resist opening the window and sticking his head out to ask.
"Huh? Oh! Get in the car!"
Shao Yanzhe didn't have time to think much and quickly got into the car.
After giving his address, he kept staring at the scenery flashing by outside.
Outside the window, skyscrapers rise up and soar into the sky, and every now and then you can see cars of different shapes and colors speeding past among them.
He turned his gaze to the nearby area and saw some silver robots mixed in with the crowd walking around him.
Everything seemed both familiar and strange.
"Is this true?" Shao Yanzhe murmured.
He looked into the distance and saw a building that was composed of two intersecting cubes floating in the air. Its surface was made up of countless squares that reflected a silver light. These squares were constantly changing positions, making it look dazzling and dreamlike.
Below this building are structures made of adobe bricks, with brown tiled roofs, windows covered with white paper, wisps of white smoke rising from chimneys, and the faint aroma of food wafting through the air.
To the right of these adobe houses are rows of five- or six-story buildings. The sunlight reflects off the windows of these buildings, making it impossible to see the interiors clearly. To the left are even taller buildings, some twenty or thirty stories high, which make the surrounding low-rise buildings appear even smaller.
On the other side of the road where the car was traveling, the clear blue seawater occasionally lapped against the embankment, making a splashing sound. Just then, a black-clad train slowly approached from a distance, its wheels submerged in the seawater. It passed by the car and slowly moved away, leaving only the gradually calming waves behind.
Looking up, above the sea, a small floating island is quietly drifting. The island is surrounded by white mist, and only the tall trees and a corner of golden glazed tiles can be vaguely seen inside.
As Shao Yanzhe looked at everything before him, his memories told him that all of this was normal, and that this was how the world was supposed to be.
But a feeling arose in my heart, which was a sense of disharmony.
He didn't know why he felt this way; after all, this was the place he had lived in for over twenty years, and he should feel very familiar with it.
"Brother, we've arrived." The driver's reminder brought Shao Yanzhe back from his chaotic thoughts.
Just as Shao Yanzhe was about to pay, the driver told him that he was the 88th customer today and could ride for free.
After getting off the bus, he stood at the entrance of the residential area and saw the familiar lottery station next to the area. He subconsciously walked over and bought a scratch-off lottery book with practiced ease. After returning home, he started scratching the tickets.
This is his weekly must-do activity. Before scratching, he fantasizes about winning the top prize of 1 million yuan, and if he can make a profit after scratching, he will be extremely grateful.
Thinking of his previous painful experience, Shao Yanzhe quickened his pace and scratched the first page.
He looked over, and his eyes widened instantly.
1 million!
He couldn't believe it, so he squeezed his eyes shut and looked again.
He really won 1 million!
"This! This! Is this real?"
He was overwhelmed with surprise and disbelief.
After that, Shao Yanzhe encountered one good thing after another.
He was promoted, received a raise, and was even rewarded with an apartment. Because of his previous overtime work, the company gave him a six-month paid leave.
He went to the supermarket to shop and entered a raffle, winning a free seven-day trip to the Maldives.
When he returned from his trip, he bought another scratch-off lottery ticket and won another million.
The days that followed were like being blessed with good fortune; one of the people he casually saved was the father of the company's CEO, and he thus gained the CEO's appreciation.
In a short time, all the money and power ended up in Shao Yanzhe's hands.
Shao Yanzhe stood in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling window, holding a glass of red wine, looking at the dazzling lights outside. He seemed like a god looking down on the earth, as if he could get everything in this world if he wanted to.
However, he felt an unusual emptiness inside.
A voice inside him kept reminding him that something was wrong!
But he had no idea what was wrong or where it was wrong.
The doctor, hidden in the shadows, had been observing Shao Yanzhe, watching him live a smooth life and have everything.
“Here, you can get whatever you want. I’m sure you’ll love it here,” he murmured to himself, his eyes full of anticipation.
Just then, the doctor suddenly turned his head to look in a certain direction, a flash of ruthlessness in his eyes.
"Damn it! How dare they intrude into the dream I created!"
After he finished speaking, his figure vanished.
Shao Yanzhe seemed to sense something and turned his head to look. The spot where the doctor had been standing was now empty.
After finding nothing unusual, he turned his gaze away.
...
"What! What is this place?" Wen Yanqing stared at the bizarre scene before him, his pupils contracting and trembling. His feet seemed to be glued to the ground, unable to take another step forward.
The others standing next to her were in no better shape; they swallowed hard as they looked at the unprecedented scene before them.
"Brother Shao's dream is so peculiar!" It took Zhou Jiming a while to come to his senses. He looked at the novel things around him and exclaimed in amazement.
After hearing this, Wen Yanqing hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but then stopped. This dream could no longer be described as merely strange; it was simply unprecedented.
These scenes before our eyes are not things that can be easily imagined.
unless.
Unless Shao Yanzhe has seen or been in such a scene, it cannot materialize in a dream.
So, who exactly is he?
How could such an amazing experience happen?
"Meow!" Xuan Yao meowed. Although he was surprised by everything here, he didn't care.
All he wants now is to find out where the two-legged creatures are.
Then, give him a swipe.
Those two-legged creatures that never let cats have an easy time!
"Alright, let's go find Brother Shao first!" Shen Jingzhou said quickly after being reminded by Xuan Yao.
They had searched for a long time in that ancient town, but had not been able to find Shao Yanzhe.
Later, it was Xuan Yao who found the flaw in the town and the entrance to this second layer of the dream, which allowed him to enter.
"Alright! The most important thing now is to find Brother Shao. We can talk about the rest later." Zhou Jiming nodded. He didn't want them all to die in Shao Yanzhe's dream.
As for this bizarre dream, we can ask Shao Yanzhe about it after he wakes up.
The group walked the streets of the city, their eyes simply not enough to see everything.
Brightly colored, sleek cars sped by, and towering skyscrapers seemed to pierce the clouds—all of this broadened their horizons.
“This won’t work. This place is too big. Why don’t we split up and search? Whether we find it or not, we’ll regroup here in the end,” Shen Jingzhou suggested.
The others nodded in agreement. This place was different from the ancient town they had visited before; it was nearly ten times larger. Searching for people here would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
"See that huge round wheel? If you get lost, you can use that as a landmark. It's so tall that you should be able to see it from anywhere in the city."
"good!"
So the group of six people plus the cat left in different directions.
After the group left, the doctor appeared.
He watched the direction the group had left in, a hint of interest flashing in his eyes.
If they had stayed together, he would have been difficult to deal with, but now that they have separated on their own initiative, things are much easier.
Snap!
The doctor snapped his fingers, and the dream city suddenly froze, time seemingly stopping for a millisecond before continuing to spin.
The six people and the cat that left were slowly covered by a dreamlike purple mist.
They continued walking forward as if they hadn't noticed anything.
With their attention drawn to the strange things around them, they didn't notice that their reflections on the glass, which could have been mirrored, slowly disappeared as the purple smoke enveloped them.
It's as if they don't exist in this city.
At this moment, Shao Yanzhe, who was eating, paused in his act of picking up food.
A look of doubt flashed in his eyes. He looked up at the window and saw a small bird flying by quickly. There was nothing strange about it.
Just a moment ago, he seemed to feel time stand still for a brief instant.
Shao Yanzhe knew, of course, how bizarre his idea was. This was a scientific society, how could such an unscientific thing happen?
He smiled, and then, subconsciously, he looked towards a corner. Just now, in the corner of his eye, the dark shadow seemed to have moved slightly.
The smile on his face froze instantly.
