Chapter 67 Crossing the Tribulation of the Fox Demon
Shao Yanzhe carried the souls of Zhou Jiming and the others onto the carriage. Fortunately, it was a cloudy day, so it did not cause any harm to their souls.
As he and his group entered the room, they saw Xuan Yao open his mouth and swallow a humanoid black mist.
He paused, his expression somewhat complicated.
"Brother Shao? What's wrong?" Zhou Jiming asked, puzzled, when he saw Shao Yanzhe stop walking.
"nothing."
Shao Yanzhe walked into the room as if he hadn't seen anything.
Zhou Jiming and the others walked to their bodies that were lying on the table, and then made the same movements as their bodies. Their souls entered their bodies, and they woke up.
"Ouch! My hand!" Zhou Jiming woke up from his prone position, and immediately grimaced as he shook his arm repeatedly to relieve the soreness and numbness.
Wen Yanqing and the others did the same, frowning as they slowly waited for the soreness and numbness in their bodies to pass.
Shao Yanzhe walked to Xuan Yao's side and gently patted his head.
Xuan Yao gently rubbed his hand, his eyes slightly narrowed, and he kept making snoring noises.
"Thank you for your hard work. You were a great help this time!"
"Meow!" Xuan Yao meowed, his tail swishing back and forth lightly, clearly in a good mood.
Zhou Jiming and the others also knew that the fact that their bodies had not been possessed by other wandering ghosts before their return was entirely thanks to Xuan Yao.
Therefore, they all looked at Xuan Yao and bowed to him in thanks.
Xuan Yao was quite pleased and slightly raised his head, letting out a meow at them.
"I'm so hungry! Let's go out to eat!" Liu Mingyuan suggested.
"good!"
Having just experienced such a thrilling and exciting event, they were still very excited, both mentally and physically, and did not want to rest now, so they went to the hotel together to fill their stomachs first.
The group went out together and followed Zhou Jiming to a restaurant. The restaurant looked very luxurious, with three floors and a gold-plated plaque with three large characters: "Taifeng Restaurant".
"These characters are wonderful!" Liu Mingyuan looked up at the characters on the restaurant's signboard and exclaimed in admiration.
"The brushstrokes are vigorous and unrestrained, like dragons and snakes in flight, displaying a bold and unrestrained spirit. A masterpiece!" Chen Yunhe also praised.
Zhou Jiming secretly curled his lip, and he quickly called out to everyone, "Alright, alright, stop looking, let's go inside!"
The crowd followed him into Taifeng Restaurant.
Not long after they entered Taifeng Restaurant, a man from Tianluozhao passed by the entrance. Judging from the direction he was heading, he was heading towards the government office.
Halfway through the meal, Shao Yanzhe drank too much and went alone to the back of Taifenglou to take care of his bodily needs.
But since it was his first time there, he wasn't lucky enough to run into a waiter along the way, so he could only follow his instincts. Unexpectedly, instead of finding the toilet, he ended up in the kitchen.
He paused, about to turn and leave, when he saw a fat man dressed as a cook come out of the kitchen, carrying a small, fluffy white creature that was fluttering around.
Samoyed?
His eyes lit up when he saw the little creature that looked so much like the Samoyed he had seen in his previous life. He had never been able to resist these furry little things.
However, since it wasn't his own, he could only look at it and feast his eyes.
After lingering for a moment, Shao Yanzhe was about to leave when he saw the cook pull out a knife and hold it to the little thing's neck, so he quickly stopped him.
"etc!"
The chef, who was about to start cooking, heard the unfamiliar voice and looked over with a fierce expression. However, he knew that anyone who could appear at Taifeng Restaurant was either rich or powerful, and was not someone he could afford to offend.
He quickly put on a fawning smile: "What's wrong, sir?"
The little thing that he had pressed down on the wooden board saw someone and immediately looked at him. Its black grape-like eyes were misty, with a few water droplets hanging from the corners of its drooping eyes. Its eye sockets were slightly red, and its wet, round pupils were full of pleading.
Shao Yanzhe's heart softened, and he couldn't bear to let the little thing die like this, so he cupped his hands towards the cook and said, "I think this little thing is really cute. I wonder if you can sell it to me?"
The cook glanced at the little creature in his hand that was baring its teeth and glaring at him, and couldn't see what was so cute about it.
Shao Yanzhe gritted his teeth, took out three taels of silver from his sleeve, and said, "I wonder if three taels of silver is enough?"
The cook hesitated when he saw the three taels of silver, but he did not agree.
"How about adding another tael of silver?" Shao Yanzhe said, taking out another tael of silver. He looked at the cook with a warning, "Enough is enough."
Seeing that the customer in front of him had no intention of raising the price any further, the cook, fearing that the four taels of silver would be lost, quickly stuffed the small item in his hand into the person's hand and took the silver.
"make a deal!"
He chuckled and tossed the silver in his hand, only relaxing after confirming there were no problems.
He glanced at the little thing; since he had bought it from someone else for a hundred coins, he could resell it for more than three taels of silver, so he was making a profit.
He could go buy some beef to treat himself; that would be much meatier than this little thing.
Shao Yanzhe left with the fluffy little creature in his arms. He finally found someone to ask for directions to the outhouse, and after relieving himself, he returned to his private room.
When everyone saw him return with a small, fluffy white creature in his arms, they asked him a question.
Shao Yanzhe briefly explained the situation, then patted the little creature's head and said, "I rescued it because I felt sorry for it."
“Brother Shao is truly a good person,” Zhou Jiming said.
The others nodded seriously, showing no sign of being perfunctory.
After all, if Shao Yanzhe wasn't a good person, they would probably be dead by now, their graves overgrown with weeds.
Shao Yanzhe, who had been given the "friend zone" card, was speechless for a moment. Then, he chuckled and invited the others to continue eating.
After the group had eaten and drunk their fill, they gradually relaxed, but then they became tired. They went their separate ways and returned to their lodgings to rest.
Shao Yanzhe took a detour to buy Xuan Yao a bag of dried fish, who was waiting at home. He returned to his room with a happy expression. As soon as he entered the room, Xuan Yao, who was sleeping on the bed, suddenly opened his eyes. His sharp cat-like eyes looked at him with wariness.
"What's wrong?" Shao Yanzhe asked in confusion. Xuan Yao's current appearance was very similar to the scene when they first met.
He tentatively waved the dried fish he was holding in front of him, only to find that Xuan Yao was still watching him warily.
He followed Xuan Yao's gaze and belatedly realized that he was holding a small creature in his other hand.
He put the little creature on the ground and explained to Xuan Yao, "It was almost killed and eaten. I saw that it was pitiful, so I saved it."
Xuan Yao looked up at him, his eyes full of accusation.
"Don't worry, I'll only support you!"
Xuan Yao then let him go, staring at the little thing for a moment before baring his teeth: "Fox demon, get lost!"
Shao Yanzhe was taken aback and subconsciously looked down at the small creature at his feet.
It's actually a fox demon?
He observed it carefully and found that the little creature in front of him was chubby and had white fur without any other colors. Especially when it opened its mouth, it looked exactly like a Samoyed.
He quickly moved aside, but he didn't doubt that Xuan Yao would lie to him.
The little fox demon on the ground, realizing her identity had been exposed, looked up at Shao Yanzhe and let out a pitiful cry. Hearing this, one couldn't help but feel sorry for her and couldn't bear to blame her.
Shao Yanzhe walked to Xuan Yao's side and asked, "If he's a demon, how could he have almost been killed by that cook? Was he injured?"
Xuan Yao nodded and slowly walked towards the little fox demon.
The little fox demon was a little scared, but he stubbornly refused to back down. He looked at the big cat walking towards him with his round eyes and made a threatening face.
Seeing the little creature's reaction, Xuan Yao grinned.
He pressed a claw against the little fox demon's neck, bared his teeth at him, and threatened, "Now, get out!"
"Woo~" The little fox demon immediately crouched down, rolled her belly up, and whimpered at Xuan Yao, looking at him pitifully.
"Tsk!" Xuan Yao was a little impatient, but he released his claws.
Seeing this, the little fox demon darted under the bed and hid.
Xuan Yao leisurely jumped onto the bed and found a comfortable position to lie down.
Shao Yanzhe glanced under the bed, then at Xuan Yao who was squinting, and couldn't help but guess that this meant the little fox demon was to stay temporarily.
He thought about it and realized that since Xuan Yao hadn't dealt with the little fox demon the same way he had dealt with the woman's head, it meant that the little fox demon wasn't a bad monster. Judging from its appearance, it seemed that it couldn't transform into human form yet, and was probably in a similar state to Xuan Yao.
With that thought in mind, he felt relieved and simply treated the little fox demon as a Samoyed.
With the crisis gone, Shao Yanzhe sat down at the table, reached out and unpacked the dried fish he had brought back, scooped some out for Xuan Yao and placed it on the stool.
Xuan Yao, who was dozing off, suddenly jumped from the bed onto the stool, took a bite of the dried fish, and started eating it with great gusto.
Shao Yanzhe watched him eat with a smile, and out of the corner of his eye, he saw a round, fluffy little head peeking out from under the bed. The round eyes were staring at the dried fish, and there seemed to be suspicious drool dripping from the corner of its mouth.
Seeing this, he knew that the little fox demon was probably hungry. He glanced at the remaining dried fish and tentatively threw a few to him.
The little fox demon didn't move; instead, she stared at Xuan Yao.
Xuan Yao glanced at the little fox demon and continued eating the dried fish.
Seeing this, the little fox demon quickly picked up the dried fish and hid under the bed again, soon the sound of chewing could be heard.
Shao Yanzhe poured himself a cup of tea, took a slow sip, and occasionally glanced at Xuan Yao, who was eating heartily, enjoying this rare moment of peace.
After Xuan Yao had eaten and drunk his fill, Shao Yanzhe cleaned up, washed up, and went to bed.
Outside, all was quiet, with the dark sky dotted with stars overhead.
As time passed, dark clouds gathered, obscuring the starlight and plunging the entire sky into darkness.
More and more dark clouds gathered in the sky, pressing down heavily overhead, seemingly within reach.
The little fox demon hiding under the bed felt the oppressive aura above her head and trembled involuntarily, trying her best to hide under the bed.
Curled up in a ball, Xuan Yao glanced up at the sky but didn't pay any attention. He only glanced at Shao Yanzhe before closing his eyes again.
Finally, the dark clouds gathered to their maximum extent, and a white lightning bolt fell from the clouds, striking the roof tiles and creating a hole in the roof.
The lightning entered through the cave, stopped abruptly just before striking the person on the bed, and then vanished.
Tiles mixed with clods of earth fell from the roof and landed on Shao Yanzhe, who was fast asleep.
He sat up abruptly, as chunks of dirt fell and hit his head. He quickly got out of bed, his eyes still blurry, and looked up to see a hole in the roof.
Shao Yanzhe: ...
Shao Yanzhe?
