Chapter 94 The Suspended Soul Silk Unraveling 2
Old Master Bai's face immediately darkened. He turned to look at Shao Yanzhe, his dark eyes filled with deep malice.
"Kid! This is a family matter, don't interfere!"
Shao Yanzhe was not intimidated by his gaze. He walked over slowly with a warm smile on his face.
"How can this be considered your family matter? You're trying to kill someone! As a scholar from the Dayong Dynasty, how can I allow you to commit a crime!"
The old man's expression grew increasingly gloomy. He turned to look at his son, Bai Sheng: "Sheng, what do you think?"
Bai Sheng trembled. He didn't dare look at his mother, lowered his head deeply, and whispered, "I'll listen to Father."
Grandpa Bai was very satisfied. He looked at Grandma Bai standing to the side and said, "Aying, we have been together for a lifetime and have a deep bond. You have not seen the road to the underworld. Walking on it alone, you will be tormented by loneliness and feel very empty in your heart. I can't bear to let you experience that feeling."
"If we go together, we'll have each other's company on the road to the underworld, won't we? Ah Ying, don't listen to those outsiders' instigation. I'm doing this for your own good. Come with me!"
He reached out to grab Old Lady Bai's hand, but grasped only empty air.
Old Lady Bai turned away to avoid it, her head bowed, looking very submissive.
"No." She refused again, her voice not loud, but her determination was clear.
Old Master Bai suppressed his gentle expression and stared at Old Madam Bai, his eyes dark and unreadable.
He looked at Bai Sheng and his daughter-in-law with a very imposing gaze.
The two men shuddered and quickly began to persuade him.
Old Lady Bai remained silent, seemingly having been persuaded.
Old Man Bai nodded in satisfaction: "That's more like it!"
After he finished speaking, he looked at Shao Yanzhe and his group, a fake smile on his face.
"Gentlemen, I have some matters to attend to at home and cannot keep you here any longer. Why don't you go and visit other villages?"
The implication was clear: they were being asked to leave again.
To everyone's surprise, Shao Yanzhe said with a smile, "No rush. It's rare to see someone come back to life. Since we've met, it means it's fate. Why don't we wait until you die again so we can burn incense for you?"
Zhou Jiming stepped forward, snapped open his folding fan, and gently fanned himself. He looked at Old Master Bai with an extremely arrogant expression.
"That's right, I've never seen anything like this in Kyoto. As the heir of the Marquis of Changping, I wouldn't go even if someone invited me. Don't be ungrateful!"
After he finished speaking, he snorted coldly, exuding the air of a nobleman, perfectly portraying the spoiled brat he had in Kyoto.
Although Old Master Bai was the village chief of Li Family Village and had more experience than the other villagers, he had never actually seen any members of the imperial family before. He immediately shrank back and dared not say anything more.
Thus, Shao Yanzhe and his group stayed at the Bai family's "warm invitation".
They kept a close eye on the Bai family's situation, fearing that they might accidentally kill Old Lady Bai if they weren't careful.
After a long day, everyone was quite tired. After washing up, they went back to their rooms.
In the main house, Old Man Bai waved to Bai Sheng.
Bai Sheng closed the door, leaned close to him and whispered, "They've already gone back. The lights were off a while ago, so they're probably asleep."
"good!"
Old Man Bai narrowed his eyes slightly, then suddenly turned his head to look at Old Woman Bai beside him, his expression softening visibly.
"Ah Ying, stop being stubborn. Go wash up and get dressed, then come with me!"
Old Lady Bai looked up, her face expressionless, her clear black and white eyes filled with blankness.
She knew she truly had no way to escape; she never imagined that this man would not let her go even in death.
She had no power to resist, and even her son didn't want to help her, so she could only die.
Thinking this, she nodded slightly and went inside to wash and dress.
Soon, with her daughter-in-law's help, Old Lady Bai came out of the inner room wearing new clothes. Her previously messy gray hair was carefully combed, with not a single stray hair. A wooden hairpin was inserted into her hair bun, making her look much more energetic.
"Not bad!" Old Man Bai looked him up and down, quite satisfied.
"Alright, let's go together!"
As he spoke, he handed Old Lady Bai a white silk ribbon, then lay back down in the coffin, looking at her, waiting for her to die so they could go to the underworld together.
Old Lady Bai gripped the white silk ribbon tightly in her hand, looked up at the roof, and with a jerk, one end of the ribbon pierced through the roof beam and fell down.
She slowly tied the two ends of the white ribbon together, then shakily climbed onto the stool beneath it, sticking her head inside, but couldn't manage to kick the stool over.
Old Master Bai was extremely impatient. He looked at Bai Sheng with a very authoritative gaze: "Make your move!"
Bai Sheng instinctively kicked over Old Lady Bai's stool, then closed his eyes, unable to bear watching what was about to happen.
After waiting for a long time without hearing the sound he had imagined, he slowly opened his eyes.
He then realized that the person on the white silk was already gone.
He looked around and saw Shao Yanzhe and Zhou Jiming supporting his pale-faced mother, and he breathed a sigh of relief.
But he couldn't disobey his father's orders, and he didn't want his mother to die either. For a moment, his face was full of struggle.
“Brothers, you shouldn’t have come out. My mother couldn’t live without my father. It’s better that she went with him. With my father taking care of her, we can rest assured.”
Shao Yanzhe and Zhou Jiming ignored Bai Sheng and helped Bai's mother out of the mourning hall.
Old Man Bai, lying in the coffin, panicked and immediately sat up: "Stop them!"
He was extremely anxious, as the deadline was fast approaching, and if he couldn't finish on time, he would truly die.
Seeing this, Bai Sheng gritted his teeth and stepped forward to stop them.
He reached out to pull Bai Laoniang, but Shao Yanzhe stopped him.
"Your father died alone, so why did he have to come back and drag your mother down to the underworld? Your mother hasn't lived enough yet, she can't go to the underworld with that old man!"
"Get out of the way!" Zhou Jiming became somewhat impatient. He had initially seemed like a good person, but he hadn't expected him to be so cowardly in private.
Bai Sheng was so frightened that he took several steps back and hesitated in place, not knowing what to do.
Shao Yanzhe and Zhou Jiming ignored him and helped Old Lady Bai out of the small courtyard.
"Why did you rescue me?" Old Lady Bai asked, her lips trembling.
"We can't just stand by and watch you get forced to your death, can we?" Shao Yanzhe sighed.
If they interfered, after Old Lady Bai hanged herself, rumors would surely spread about how the two were deeply in love, and no one would be interested in the truth; they would only care about what they liked.
Old Lady Bai stopped, looked up slightly at the sky, and saw a bird flying extremely fast fly into the sky and disappear quickly.
"Me? Free?"
“That’s right! Is there anywhere you want to go?” Shao Yanzhe asked.
Old Lady Bai was stunned, her eyes filled with confusion. She stood at the doorway, but didn't know where she would end up.
"I have nowhere else to go."
She said that, and then she took a step down, walking down step by step.
"However, even so, I don't want to go back."
She curled her lips into a smile, which eased much of the sorrow on her face.
She walked down the last step, then turned to Shao Yanzhe and the others to thank them, saying, "Thank you all for your help!"
After she finished speaking, she bowed to the group and said, "Thank you!"
After she finished speaking, she shattered like a broken piece of porcelain.
Zhou Jiming was startled by the scene before him and hid behind Shao Yanzhe, glancing around to see what was going on.
"Brother Shao, what just happened? How did it suddenly shatter?"
When Shao Yanzhe first saw Bai Laoniang turn into fragments and shatter, he was also surprised. He looked around and found that the surrounding scene was becoming somewhat blurry, like water stains on a beautiful painting, causing the colors to blend together.
"I'm afraid we don't even know when we've been scammed."
"Brother Shao, you didn't notice it either? What exactly is this thing? Is it powerful? Can we defeat it?"
Shao Yanzhe frowned and pondered. After carefully recalling his memories of this period, he realized that from the moment they entered Li Family Village, they had willingly stepped into a trap prepared specifically for them.
It was at this moment that the blurry background that had been obscuring their view disappeared, and in its place was the dilapidated environment of the courtyard house.
"What is this? How did this place suddenly turn into ruins?" Zhou Jiming stood up in surprise, looked around, and ran to the wall as if he didn't believe it. He reached out and pounded on the wall a few times, and layers of dust fell off the wall.
"Brother Shao, were all those experiences we just went through fake?" he asked blankly.
Shao Yanzhe looked around, and finally his gaze fell on the roof, where he saw Bai Ling jumping around.
Unexpectedly, the escaped white silk ribbon appeared here. So, all of this was his doing?
"When did you tamper with it?" he asked, looking at the white silk.
Bai Ling thought for a moment and said, "It was when you and the others entered Li Family Village."
Is this your ability?
"Of course not, this is a skill unique to Granny Ying, but unfortunately she has already been reincarnated in the underworld."
Bai Ling sighed, feeling somewhat reluctant to part with Granny Ying.
Shao Yanzhe sat down again and began to sort through his memories. He looked up and asked, "Were those things things that Grandma Ying experienced?"
Bai Ling nodded: "That's right!"
Shao Yanzhe sighed. He thought he had saved the person, but he didn't expect that the person was already dead.
Since the person was already dead, he let it go.
Thinking this, he took out paper and pen and began to write a eulogy. After he finished writing it, he burned it for Granny Ying and the boy.
He hopes they will meet better people in the future.
Seeing his actions, Bai Ling ran over and stopped not far from him: "You're quite a scholar!"
He knew that this eulogy contained a trace of merit, and that the boy and Granny Ying below would surely have a peaceful and prosperous life in their next life after receiving it.
Seeing Shao Yanzhe's actions, a hint of hesitation flashed through his mind. Should he let A Guang and A Yu also calm their resentment?
However, the two of them harbored deep resentment, and he was unsure whether Shao Yanzhe could dispel it. More importantly, he was wondering how he could persuade Shao Yanzhe to help them resolve their resentment.
After thinking for a moment, Bai Ling had an idea. He floated to Shao Yanzhe's side.
"Scholar, do you want a wife?"
