Chapter 4

Chapter 4

He exclaimed in a low voice, and heard the sound of Zhou Ran turning over in the bed opposite. He quickly lowered his voice, pulled the person into his bed against the wall, and blocked him sideways.

"He actually turned into a human. My guess was right!" In order to avoid waking up Zhou Ran, Pei Zhao could only whisper in Zhou Yuli's ear.

Zhou Yuli also leaned close to Pei Zhao's ear and said, "It's still a little stiff, but it's much better than when you saw me."

Zhou Yuli didn’t know what Pei Zhao’s guess was, but he knew that what Pei Zhao cared about was not whether the guess was successful, but that he turned back into a human.

The feeling of having the flesh stretched inside the puppet was very uncomfortable. The tough plant fibers pulled at every inch of the bones, and the muscles needed to be torn apart and then healed. Although there seemed to be nothing abnormal on the surface, the inside was already bloody.

It hurt, but he knew that not every puppet had the opportunity to feel such pain.

Lying next to Pei Zhao, Zhou Yuli noticed that there was a small earring on Pei Zhao's right ear, emitting a little light in the not-so-dark night.

Zhou Yuli couldn't help but raise his hand and touch it.

Pei Zhao thought he was going to do something, so he quickly held his hand and said, "Be quiet! If you wake others up, I'll see how you'll explain it."

Zhou Yuli's hands were held down, so he had to stay in that position. The two men's hands were crossed and placed on Zhou Yuli's waist.

Even though it was separated from his own hand, the temperature of Pei Zhao's hand seemed to have penetrating power, and the wood veneer there was very hot, as if more skin was rapidly growing from there.

"Zhou Yuli," Pei Zhao was puzzled.

"Hmm?" Zhou Yuli closed his eyes slightly. The pain spreading around the heat source on his waist forced him to concentrate extremely well. It turns out that being loved can also hurt.

In the darkness, Pei Zhao stared blankly with his eyes wide open, stunned as he saw the man in front of him who seemed to be growing slowly, his height gradually exceeding his entire head.

"Zhou Yuli...you seem to be growing taller."

Pei Zhao spent the whole night thinking about how he would explain to Zhou Ran the next morning when he found out there was an extra person in the dormitory.

While thinking, he fell asleep. In his dream, Zhou Ran was chased by hundreds of puppets, and each puppet had a face of Zhou Yuli. Wherever it goes, it destroys everything in its path and shakes the earth.

Zhou Ran ran away while screaming, "God Pei, your puppet is alive!"

When he woke up, Zhou Ran's devastating scream was still echoing in his ears. Pei Zhao suspected that he was hallucinating for a moment, until he pressed his ears and found that the sound was still there, and it was coming from the direction in front of the bed.

Zhou Ran was really screaming.

"Pei Shen——" Zhou Ran, holding a pancake in his hand and wearing slippers, ran to Pei Zhao's bed and shouted in a loud voice, "Your puppet is alive!"

"What's going on?" Hearing the word "Puppet", Pei Zhaojue woke up completely. He touched around and found that both the puppet Zhou Yuli and Zhou Yuli were gone.

Only Zhou Ran pointed in one direction and cried, "It's over - this world is really all Zhou Yuli -"

Following the direction of Zhou Ran's finger, what caught my eye was a pair of black leather shoes, slender legs wrapped in trousers, a clean and tidy white shirt, and a deep and cold face.

Zhou Yuli.

There is no wood grain structure on the surface of his skin, and his movements are elegant and natural, not clumsy like a puppet.

Is he the puppet Zhou Yuli?

It was Zhou Yuli who had disappeared from this world.

Pei Zhao had doubts in his mind.

"Hello, I'm Zhou Yuli, a freshman in the Law Department. I'm late for reporting and can only fill a dormitory with insufficient occupancy. Sorry for disturbing you,"

The "Zhou Yuli" in front of him walked to Pei Zhao's bed, stretched out his clean and slender hand to him, with a bag of milk tea hooked on his fingertips, "This time, the milk tea didn't spill."

*

"God Pei, tell me the truth, have you known Zhou Yuli for a long time, and have you prepared a bed for him in advance?"

When going to class, Zhou Ran couldn't help but ask.

Glancing sideways at Zhou Yuli, who was holding two textbooks beside him, Pei Zhao noticed that the latter was also looking at him. He retracted his gaze and said casually, "Well, I calculated it."

The first class of the new semester was military theory. It was a large class that was attended by classes from several departments. The Department of Psychology where Pei Zhao was located happened to be assigned to the Department of Law where Zhou Yuli was located.

Being able to share a dormitory and attend classes together is a great thing for freshmen, but for Pei Zhao, who has a lot of questions that he wants to ask Zhou Yuli in private, it is not a good thing.

"Master Pei, let's sit together later. It's my first class in college, and you're still by my side. It feels like I'm back in high school!" Zhou Ran put his arm around Pei Zhao's shoulders and nudged his chest with his elbow.

Pei Zhao was so angry that he closed his eyes.

High school... When was he with Zhou Ran in high school? What nonsense.

He complained in his heart but said nothing on the surface. Because just now, he seemed to see flashes of white light before his eyes again——

Just like before entering the other world for the first time.

"Did you and Pei Zhao go to high school together?" Zhou Yuli's voice sounded right above his ear.

Pei Zhao realized that Zhou Ran had taken his hand away at some point, and it was Zhou Yuli's clean and slender fingers that were gently touching his shoulder.

Pei Zhao suddenly felt a little thirsty.

"Yes. You don't know, Master Pei, but he is a famous figure in our school!"

"Oh, what did you mean?" Zhou Yuli asked curiously.

Pei Zhao frowned, raised his shoulders, and whispered: "Don't ask..."

Pei Zhao spoke very quietly and Zhou Ran did not hear him, he was still gesticulating and talking big.

Zhou Yuli didn't hear it either, but he felt that his fingers tapping Pei Zhao's shoulders were being touched by a tiny force, so he lowered his head and from his angle, he saw that Pei Zhao's face was very pale.

Zhou Yuli immediately realized that Pei Zhao, who was considered a "prominent figure" in Zhou Ran's eyes, might not want people to mention his high school.

It may be because of an unpleasant campus experience, or it may be because of unknown reasons behind it. No matter what the reason was, Zhou Yuli didn't want to know now.

Zhou Yuli paused.

"Student Zhou Ran, I just checked and it seems we are still three minutes late."

Zhou Ran stopped playing immediately: "Three minutes? No way!" He took out his phone and took a look: "Oh my god, it really is three minutes! Brother, stop chatting and run!"

Zhou Yuli was quick to take out two books from his bag and stuffed them into Zhou Ran's arms: "Thank you for saving a seat for us, classmate Zhou Ran, I feel a little uncomfortable, Pei Zhao will just walk with me slowly."

"...I don't think I agreed to save a seat for you, classmate Zhou Yuli..." Seeing that Zhou Yuli no longer paid attention to him after he stuffed the book into his mouth, Zhou Ran wisely shut up.

There were only two people left on the boulevard.

The school has just started and there are not many students in the school. Pei Zhao stood in the middle of the road, with his head lowered and chest hunched, breathing quickly and heavily.

"Don't be anxious, take your time." Zhou Yuli helped him to smooth his back without asking what was wrong or why.

Pei Zhao gradually calmed down.

"Going to class?" Zhou Yuli asked.

Pei Zhao looked up at Zhou Yuli. He really had no curiosity at all. In fact... seeing that he was only thinking about himself, Pei Zhao suspected that Zhou Yuli didn't really care whether he went to class or not.

"Go to class," Pei Zhao shook his head, his pale face returned to normal, only his lips were still slightly pale, and he said for no reason, "Don't worry...ah!"

A short scream echoed through the tree-lined avenue. A gardener who was working on a flower bed came over after hearing the sound. He looked at the empty tree-lined avenue and scratched his ear: "That's weird. There was clearly some movement just now."

The instigator of the scream completed the other half of the scream in another space.

"Zhou - Yu - Li -" There was only fast-flowing air under his feet, and Pei Zhao was wrapped in it, as if he was being transported in a plastic pipe, not knowing where he was going. All he could do, besides falling, was to scream.

“…”

Snap, gurgle.

After two dull sounds, Pei Zhao opened his eyes and saw a pitch-black sky.

...Why do you always come at night?

There was no pain in his back. When Pei Zhao got up, he found that he had fallen heavily on Zhou Yuli.

"No, why are you here too?" Pei Zhao frowned, and while pulling the man up, he couldn't help but think wildly, "Do I have to take every kid along when they are passed here? If we catch them... won't we have to drag the whole family along..."

Zhou Yuli reached out and pressed his leg.

There was no pain in his body, and although Pei Zhao was only about 178 cm tall, he was very light.

However, the location where he fell just now was a bit clever...

"Well, we have to think of a way." Zhou Yuli's voice came from above his head.

After Pei Zhao finished mumbling, he found Zhou Yuli standing in front of him, with a slightly worried look in the direction behind him. Thinking about what this man said, it was obvious that his mumbling just now was heard.

"Hmm?" Pei Zhao made a puzzled sound.

Zhou Yuli avoided the topic and pointed behind him, "It seems that their health problems are more serious."

Pei Zhao turned back with a questioning expression—he turned back even faster, and then back again, and then back again. After confirming several times, he pulled Zhou Yuli up and shouted as he ran:

“No buddy—there are no zombie movies in your world, they’re zombies ahhhhhhhhh???”

Pei Zhao's screams echoed in the empty Central Park. Behind him, just two hundred meters away, dozens of zombies slowly crawled up, holding up their broken bodies, roaring, and moving slowly.

Zhou Yuli only noticed that his hand was being held tightly by Pei Zhao.

He held it tightly, causing tiny wrinkles on the edges. Pei Zhao's fingers were thin, white, and small, and only covered half of his big hand at the wrist, like a blooming, snow-white calla lily.

They ran wildly on the road, their panting and footsteps disturbed the stiff zombies. More and more zombies woke up, gathered into a zombie group, followed behind them, ready to pounce on them at any time.

His physical strength disappeared rapidly, his steps became heavier, and his pace of escape slowed down.

Pei Zhao wanted to cry but had no tears.

If he had known earlier that not every world is materialistic, he would have prepared some equipment and brought it with him.

As he watched the group of zombies approaching from behind, a hand suddenly stretched out from the ground at an angle, grabbed Pei Zhao, and pulled him and Zhou Yuli directly into the dark and heavy ruins.
